Former inn set in the gorgeous sleepy village of Alciston, surrounded by farms, fields, and cottages. The wonderful hosts, Dave and Val, upgraded our accommodation prior to our arrival, which was a nice bonus. Beautiful garden area to the rear with spectacular views of the Sussex countryside and equally spectacular sunsets. A great base for visiting Lewes, Brighton, Eastbourne, and the south coast in general. Breakfast is an optional extra. Just ask Dave and Val, who will provide whatever you desire, from fruit to fry-ups, which they did on our last morning to facilitate our neeed for an early departure. No complaints.

This was a lovely peaceful location to stay. The accommodation is a cabin, we chose the smaller one, as only for 1 night and it was perfectly adequate. Peaceful surroundings, set in a garden, and the owners were happy for our dog to have a run round in the enclosed garden. So nice after a day driving from northern England. Personally I found the bed rather too firm, but my husband slept well, so just me. Minus temperatures during the night, but the provided small oil filled radiator kept us warm. Nice to have kettle provided, and towels too. Good location for us to catch the ferry from Newhaven. The owners are really nice. Made us feel very welcome.

Gorgeous views, beautiful rooms, very accommodating and friendly owners. Well supplied kitchen, we were only staying one night for the opera but it would be perfect for a walking weekend. It has the advantage of being fully self contained and homey.

It's pricier than some other local B&Bs, and breakfast is optional but extra. To be fair, it wasn't costly though given the location and the date we booked, and it was available when everywhere else seemed full months in advance!

Lovely apartment. Delightful setting. Beautifully clean. Kitchen had mostly everything we could need. Table on decking with lovely views over the countryside would have been nice to sit at, or for breakfast, had the weather been favourable. Hosts friendly and helpful. Perfect for our needs.

The promise of "coffee machine in every room" turned out to be a caffetiere which I suppose a few hundred years ago might have been described as a machine. Supplies: sachets of Nescafé and Tetley's builder's tea: somewhat disappointing. Had to crouch to use the shower (anyone under 6ft should cope), but no problem. Bit of a squeeze of space in the bedroom, and tiny bedside tables. Again no problem: it's well appointed to the space.

The cottage is well-appointed and it is furnished with every amenity that one could expect allowing for simple self-catering with a kettle, micro-wave, refrigerator and plentiful supplies of coffee and milk. The layout and furnishings are thoughtful and comfortable, although the bed was a little firm for our tastes. The location is excellent with Charleston House less than 3 miles away and our host recommended a visit to Berwick Church which is an outstanding example of the work of the Bell's art and is well worth a visit. Birdsong and horses being led to gallops added a rustic feel to this restorative stay.

The property it self was amazing. The view was beautiful, surreal and peaceful. The breakfast was AMAZING!!!! For only £10pp. The hosts David and Val were super sweet and lovely.

The sofa bed was very springy and the toilet made a very loud noise when you flush which isn’t that bad during the day but it’s incredibly frightening at night. I think the toilet flush uses recycled sink and shower water.

There was plenty of room. It's bigger than some flats. All the necessities provided. Towels, t-towels, tea, coffee, milk, hand soap, etc. Hosts D&V were absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Then there are the views. OMG, a little piece of heaven.

Pillows were a little soft and offered no support. And the sofa bed mattress is so thin you could feel the bars through it. Could do with a mattress topper. Only set up for 2 people, but technically, 5 could sleep here. 2 bowls, 2 wine glasses, 2 towels.

It was spotless and beautiful. A very roomy two rooms with a large bathroom with a shower and a bath. Our view overlooked Firle Beacon and was just so lovely! We felt very spoilt! TV WiFi large kitchen area. We booked breakfast which was sumptuous. David and Val were excellent hosts- warm and kind and very friendly. This was at the end of our walk of 7 days of the South Downs way and when we arrived at rose cottage (beacon view) we truly felt that God was looking after us! We were very well looked after and cannot recommend this experience enough.

Everything about our visit was excellent. Both Val and David welcomed us as we parked our car. Loft room had views over the fields where loads of sheep were grazing. Room was excellently appointed with kitchen, breakout area with settee and table and chairs and out bedroom looked over sheep in the fields. Excellent breakfast cooked to order by David.

Nothing to dislike at all.

Lovely self contained cabin in a small village near the south downs way. We stayed for one night as we were walking the south downs way, a good location for a stop off roughly halfway between Lewes and Eastbourne. The owner was very friendly and the garden kept in a lovely condition, very quiet and peaceful surroundings. The local pub was only a short walk away through some fields.
