Former inn set in the gorgeous sleepy village of Alciston, surrounded by farms, fields, and cottages. The wonderful hosts, Dave and Val, upgraded our accommodation prior to our arrival, which was a nice bonus. Beautiful garden area to the rear with spectacular views of the Sussex countryside and equally spectacular sunsets. A great base for visiting Lewes, Brighton, Eastbourne, and the south coast in general. Breakfast is an optional extra. Just ask Dave and Val, who will provide whatever you desire, from fruit to fry-ups, which they did on our last morning to facilitate our neeed for an early departure. No complaints.

This was a lovely peaceful location to stay. The accommodation is a cabin, we chose the smaller one, as only for 1 night and it was perfectly adequate. Peaceful surroundings, set in a garden, and the owners were happy for our dog to have a run round in the enclosed garden. So nice after a day driving from northern England. Personally I found the bed rather too firm, but my husband slept well, so just me. Minus temperatures during the night, but the provided small oil filled radiator kept us warm. Nice to have kettle provided, and towels too. Good location for us to catch the ferry from Newhaven. The owners are really nice. Made us feel very welcome.

Lovely apartment. Delightful setting. Beautifully clean. Kitchen had mostly everything we could need. Table on decking with lovely views over the countryside would have been nice to sit at, or for breakfast, had the weather been favourable. Hosts friendly and helpful. Perfect for our needs.

The promise of "coffee machine in every room" turned out to be a caffetiere which I suppose a few hundred years ago might have been described as a machine. Supplies: sachets of Nescafé and Tetley's builder's tea: somewhat disappointing. Had to crouch to use the shower (anyone under 6ft should cope), but no problem. Bit of a squeeze of space in the bedroom, and tiny bedside tables. Again no problem: it's well appointed to the space.

The cottage is well-appointed and it is furnished with every amenity that one could expect allowing for simple self-catering with a kettle, micro-wave, refrigerator and plentiful supplies of coffee and milk. The layout and furnishings are thoughtful and comfortable, although the bed was a little firm for our tastes. The location is excellent with Charleston House less than 3 miles away and our host recommended a visit to Berwick Church which is an outstanding example of the work of the Bell's art and is well worth a visit. Birdsong and horses being led to gallops added a rustic feel to this restorative stay.

There was plenty of room. It's bigger than some flats. All the necessities provided. Towels, t-towels, tea, coffee, milk, hand soap, etc. Hosts D&V were absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Then there are the views. OMG, a little piece of heaven.

Pillows were a little soft and offered no support. And the sofa bed mattress is so thin you could feel the bars through it. Could do with a mattress topper. Only set up for 2 people, but technically, 5 could sleep here. 2 bowls, 2 wine glasses, 2 towels.

It was spotless and beautiful. A very roomy two rooms with a large bathroom with a shower and a bath. Our view overlooked Firle Beacon and was just so lovely! We felt very spoilt! TV WiFi large kitchen area. We booked breakfast which was sumptuous. David and Val were excellent hosts- warm and kind and very friendly. This was at the end of our walk of 7 days of the South Downs way and when we arrived at rose cottage (beacon view) we truly felt that God was looking after us! We were very well looked after and cannot recommend this experience enough.

Lovely self contained cabin in a small village near the south downs way. We stayed for one night as we were walking the south downs way, a good location for a stop off roughly halfway between Lewes and Eastbourne. The owner was very friendly and the garden kept in a lovely condition, very quiet and peaceful surroundings. The local pub was only a short walk away through some fields.

David and Val were amazing hosts. They really made us feel at home and were extremely accommodating. The rooms were spotless and on the cosy side, definitely enough space for myself and my partner. The breakfast in the morning was delicious with an amazing selection and we were really looked after. Whilst we weren’t able to make the most of the garden, the facilities were perfect for a nice cuppa in the morning.

Whilst everything was amazing, the mattresses were a little too firm for us.

Val was extremely helpful and went out of her way to accommodate my changing plans, as I coordinated with other guests arriving for a wedding at the nearby Alfriston Gardens. The suite was very comfortable, the full kitchen was very useful as I have particular diet issues and need to be able to heat up my own food, the arrangement of the bathroom off the living area where the pull-out couch is located also would allow the person in the main bedroom to be undisturbed, if two were sharing. I love the location, especially the view from the balcony towards the sea, and the cliff dropping down to ground level. I was born in Westham, and although I grew up in the suburbs in Surrey, my family used to take a picnic to Birling Gap and other beaches along the coast nearby. The only noise was from an extremely strong wind!

The two apartments were ideally furnished, with consideration about what guests might find really useful when only staying one night eg salt pepper oil biscuits tea coffee etc. Compact apartments with extra fold out beds meant two families could stay simultaneously but have their own space. Drying rack was provided for walkers to dry out clothes and cozy, warm and welcoming facilities made for a wonderful night after a long cold day of walking!

No obvious recycling bin but am sure the host will have recycled the glass bottles we left.
