The room was really nice, the bed was comfortable! It was lovely that tea/coffee was provided and we were given access to fresh milk everyday so we could make a drink! The staff were all really lovely and friendly too. The bar/pub/restaurant downstairs was particularly nice - super cosy and had a proper country pub feel. The dining rooms were slightly more modern and in keeping with the vibe they seemed to be going for. The breakfast is great, and there’s a lot more option than I thought we’d get. We also ate here the first night of our stay and the fish and chips were excellent! The beer garden was also really cute - lots of greenery, and right next to the stream! Very idyllic.

The bathroom in our room was a little dark. There was no wall attachment or screen/curtain for a shower (using the attachment), meaning that you had to either have a bath or a sit-down shower. Wasn’t too much of a problem because the bath was super clean, but appreciate it may be inconvenient for some. There were also no towel hooks in the bathroom (we used the ones in the main room).

A warm welcome as we arrived, tired from walking all day with more to follow the next day, so it was great to subside onto the comfy bed in our room before a quick shower and down to a lovely dinner. Although I’d chosen basically burger and chips, the extras - bacon jam and chutney - were different, better than the bog standard stuff you normally get. Again friendly and efficient service. Breakfast was particularly delicious with a homemade treacle bread, perfectly poached eggs and avocado. Great food, really pleasant staff and they were kind enough to make the effort to return my hat which I left in our room.

A lovely warm welcome when we arrived after a long journey and nice to be shown to our room and where there was a small fridge for general use in the hall. Delicious locally sourced food at breakfast - really tasty sausage, bacon etc. We really liked the cosy sitting room with a fire burning in the grate and a file of local walks of different lengths - with printouts that one could carry on one's walk. And a manager who clearly did the walks herself and could recommend. The dinners were excellent - a good and varied menu and delicious. We were a large walking group and they coped very well with getting the right food to the right people without delay. It's pricey but you can see what you are paying for.

Everything was perfect for a weekend's walking. It's a shame that it's not closer to a railway station (4 - 5 miles) and the taxis were very expensive from the station to Ravenstonedale.

Staff very friendly and professional. Check in was easy. Evening meal menu was very imaginative and food was good quality and reasonable quantity. Loved the choices on the breakfast menu. The bar area was peaceful but with atmosphere, where we ate in the evening. Liked that fresh milk was available to help yourself for making drinks in the room.

We would usually choose less costly accommodation, but there was none available in this area for the date we needed.

Good parking. Welcoming atmosphere when we arrived. Very helpful staff. Comfortable room. Lovely and warm. Fresh crisp bed linen. Hot water for a bath. Log fire burning. Bar open. Decor in hotel was tasteful and interesting. Breakfast room full of taxidermy art and antiques. Excellent breakfast. I could have stayed on....plan to return. Would be lovely outside when warmer too. Complimentary refreshments in room, toiletries and extras were a great touch. Only 7 miles from main road. Easily found by sat nav.

Mattress too soft. We think the bed frame might need tightening as a bit of movement detected. Bathroom door needed holes filling and decorated. No freestanding mirror or socket on table to sit and sort hair and make up.

The location is brilliant & quiet with good scenery & pleasant walks. The pub has an old world feel with tradional features fires etc. The restaurant has an extensive menu. The breakfast was really good & the staff very friendly & helpful.

We turned up on a Tuesday so the restaurant wasnt open which was a great pity as we like a 1 stop shop - bar, restaurant & room. We were directed to another pub the Kings Head, only about 150m walk, which was open for food.

The location is very pretty indeed, the pub really nice and the restaurant a nice treat. The rooms are prettily decorated while retaining the charm of the original building - I loved the bathroom. Great for couples.

I was there with my sister and we had a share a bed as there weren't any twins available. The bed was a little small for that - but super comfy. The food was a bit fancy for our walking holiday - but great for a special night out.

A delightful small hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Warm and cosy despite the snow and freezing temperature outside which reached -6C one morning. The food at both breakfast and dinner was excellent and the restaurant has a strong and well-deserved reputation.

Personally, not too keen on a mattress topper which I find uncomfortable.

The food at breakfast was wonderful and had a fantastic choice. Dinner was exquisite, cooked to perfections and wonderfully presented. The room was quaint with a bathroom and very quiet.

The old floorboards had a tendency to creek when walking around, not much of an issue (part of the character of the building), but I guess could be heard late at night or early morning.

Thoroughly relaxed and comfortable

I paid £160 through booking.com in advance and was invited to pay £75 on arrival, which I paid. My wife paid a further £85 for dinner on departure. I therefore believe I have inadvertently overpaid by £75 and would be most grateful for a refund of this amount.
