The location is exceptional, with a tremendous view and very quiet. The room was huge, and had doors between the bathroom and bed that added quiet. The staff were amazing and helpful! The shower was just ok. It had a combined waterfall/hand wand, but the water pressure was terrible. The overhead shower was useless, and the hand wand was frustratingly weak. The bed was large, and relatively comfortable for two. It did have a worrying tilt where the feet were higher than the head. Breakfast was anemic. There were choices of juices, cereals, fruit, toast, and some packaged yoghurts. The fruit was in no uncertain terms, pathetic - a combination of children's canned fruit medley. The yoghurt appeared to be the same childish selections. I did have the porridge on two of the days - the first day it was fantastic, and the second it was pasty to the point of being inedible.

The staff were ALL excellent, and nothing was too much trouble. The evening meals in the hotel were wonderful. The views were fabulous. My husband enjoyed his breakfasts.

Our sink was smelly so we had to keep the plug in; the TV rarely worked as it kept losing the signal; the towel rail in the bathroom, which was supposed to come on automatically each morning, never did (and it wasn't controllable by us in the room) and, as a vegetarian, my breakfast was very lack lustre - no muesli, not even boxed Alpen (the waitress said it was an error on the printed menu), the fruit cocktail had obviously come out of a tin, the fresh fruit had seen better days and there was no fruit at all on the Sunday.

View overlooking the city and beyond is second to none - best kept secret. The mix of new and old decor/buildings. Bedrooms were spacious. The variety of sitting areas internally and externally.

Too many stairs to get to different locations internally and externally which was a bit of a challenge for our limited mobility as no lift at property, as only one night we managed but it was not a deterrent. No cover from hotel up to external function room, heavy rain made steps unsafe and limited access to umbrellas so have to wait for weather to ease or get soaking wet on way back to room or taxi. Bedroom could do with some tlc in terms of wallpaper as some pictures were missing so dirty marks and holes existed, some paper ripped off and one part a wall edge seems to have been bashed by a door or something so needs some repair/decor.

Friendly and professional welcome at reception and in the bar. Very comfortable room with a good view, well-functioning heating system and openable windows for fresh air. Spacious and very clean bathroom with both a bath and a shower. Quiet rural location and easy parking. The staff were able to respond to individual requests at breakfast, for example providing plain yogurt and espresso coffee which were not offered as standard.

Some noise from people in the room above and from other guests - at about 3am on the second night of our stay which was a Saturday. Although there was a good range of cooked breakfast options, there were few really fresh and healthy choices for cereals, bread or fruit juice (eg no muesli) and the coffee was disappointing on the first day. Not really a problem though !

We stay in numerous hotels every year, and this was by far one of our best hotel experiences. The location was beautiful, the grounds immaculate, and the view of Cardiff in the distance was unmatched (weather was nearly perfect while there). The hotel itself was very charming, the room was very clean, comfortable and spacious, and the view from our room, especially at night, was probably the best we’ve seen in 2024. The onsite restaurant produced excellent meals with very friendly service, so we dined there 3 of the 5 nights we stayed. The hotel grounds were the best part as you can drink beverages while viewing the beautiful countryside with Cardiff off in the Horizon on a warm, sunny afternoon. I would, without hesitancy, re-book another visit when back in Cardiff. It’s a must stay location if traveling by car. If not traveling by car, I highly recommend renting one while in Cardiff just to stay at this location – you won’t regret it. Cabs also work but inconvenient for freedom of movement.

This hotel is an extremely popular venue for weddings and other events, so there were times when crowds took over portions of the hotel grounds and morning breakfast areas. However, that’s to be expected in such a gorgeous location.

View was amazing, the room was lovely, clean, and very large, the breakfast was really nice, we had dinner at the restaurant which was a lovely experience, lots of nice places to sit, and a suprisingly good gym. Lots of nice walks around the hotel. Very peaceful and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The cost of vegetarian meals for dinner felt too expensive - they were around the same price as their meat counterparts (which my partner said were delicous), yet it seemed like less effort was put into them, and they were out of stock on one of the options.

Our stay was extraordinary! We were at a show until very late (past normal checking in) and we were still greeted warmly by the night porter who had read our check in note. Once we arrived in our room, there was a birthday card and special chocolates waiting for my partner as I had also mentioned when booking that it was her birthday. It was a very special touch! The facilities were more than expected as well as a spacious room and bathroom. We had a great night sleep and a lovely rain shower. We felt like royalty Breakfast was put out in a timely manner and was beautiful. Staff at service were kind and were happy to greet you and serve tea and coffee. It definitely made a great impact on our morning Finally, the price was exceptional for the amazing service we had. We wouldn't think twice to stay here again. Thank you once again :)

The location was lovely, the room was quiet, clean and comfortable, with everything I needed. After some work that evening, I had a couple of lovely pints in the bar area next to the open fire, served by a new employee who was polite and welcoming. I had an excellent nights sleep, not too hot/cold and quiet. I used the gym in the morning that has all that you need for a quick work out ( mostly cardio equipment, one running machine ). After this I went for breakfast, welcomed again by another young lady, who was again welcoming and polite. The full English Breakfast was really fresh and tasty and I liked the eating area, as this is a lovely period building. I spoke to Linda ( from memory ) on reception and explained I needed to check out quicker and she was really helpful and said she would have my receipt all printed out on departure which she did. Also again impressed with the service here, as Linda also enquired how my stay was and anything else I needed to let me know. The Hotel didn't appear particularly busy on my stay and a mix of ages regarding guests and I can't comment on the evening food, but going on the breakfast it's probably not going to disappoint. As my first visit to this Hotel and I stay away alot for work at different hotels,I would highly recommend this establishment, it's a beautiful location looking out over the grounds, a period property, with good facilities and helpful and welcoming staff.

The only thing I can mention is when arriving in the dark, it was a little confusing where best to park and where to head to on foot ( which is clear in the daylight ). Plus I'm not a fan of big rocks near the turning points, as if you have to reverse you can't see them easy in the dark.

Room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was good and served quite quickly and hot. Hotel generally quiet, even with a wedding taking place, and view across the countryside is incredible.

Service charge in the restaurant - the price of the food and drinks on the menu is more than reflective of the quality and quantity. If there's not enough profit in the current prices, put the price up; don't add charges for someone taking an order and carrying a few plates and glasses.

I would give the hotel 10 based on its location alone. The view is beautiful, and has to be seen to be appreciated, and the grounds are fantasticly well maintained. It's so peaceful that its easy to forget that you are staying on the outskirts of a large city. The price paid, including breakfast, was incredibly reasonable. Much better value than a hotel in the city centre. The hotel is tasetfully decorated and the rooms are large and extremely comfortable. Photos do not do it justice. We were reluctant to leave in the morning, but spent a few hours sat outside enjoying the view with tea and coffee 10/10

It would be hard to find anything to dislike about the hotel unless you are overbearingly fussy.
