This is my home from home when visiting my family in Caerphilly. I would hate to have to stay anywhere else. Steve provides a warm, friendly welcome and nothing is too much trouble. I have stayed in several different rooms over the last few years and they are all super clean and comfortable. Everything you need, including the rail station, is within walking distance of Caerphilly town centre so when I visit I can park the car and forget it until I leave knowing that it is safe and secure.

Nothing not to like

Good breakfast selection, and Steve the proprietor, fitted timing as well as contents around our preferences. Noting was too much trouble for him, he (and his other half whom we met but briefly) were warm and friendly (without being overbearing). The place was spotless, and much cheaper than a Travelodge-type experience. Excellent parking for my large MPV, and a five-minute walk from Caerphilly Railway Station for frequent trains into Cardiff - and excellent and rather pretty location, especially if you like Victorian vernacular architecture.

One of our number would have liked a little William Morris wallpaper around the place, but she is hopelessly pre-Raphaelite.

Ty Castell exceeded expectations - I was expecting a much smaller property - and it was very spacious indeed. Steve was very helpful, answering questions before my stay and during. I prefer (where possible) not to stay in a large, impersonal chain hotel, and the personal service from Steve was very welcome, and very "old school". Despite its close proximity to the town centre - a 15 minute walk and another 5 minutes to the castle - Ty Castell was very quiet. The road is double-yellow-lined (if I recall) and the private parking was certainly a bonus in this situation. Thank you, Steve, I will definitely return to Ty Castell on my next trip to Caerphilly. Note - although I don't need it (yet) the guest house is fully accessible, wheelchair access, with a slope and ramp. I cannot comment on the ground floor bedroom but (with Steve's attention to detail) I'm sure it would be more-than compliant.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! Steve was an incredibly kind and thoughtful host – he even helped us with our luggage and, together with his lovely wife, prepared a delicious breakfast for us. He also gave us several great recommendations for local trips. On top of that, he has a great sense of humor – I’ve honestly never had a nicer host! The rooms were spacious and offered beautiful views. I would definitely come back.

The Guest House is a large Edwardian property in a quiet residential street with parking provided. I chose a location a short drive outside the Cardiff city centre due to lack of parking/additional fees for the same there. Palatial sized en suite room, excellent value at the Guest House. Nice views to local hills and villages surrounding town. Short walk into the pleasant, bustling town of Caerphilly with amazing Castle currently under some renovation. Steve was a welcoming host. Did not have breakfast hence a 9.

? Saniflo system which is a bit of a noise if not used to it but just momentary when you flush loo etc.

I had spoken to Steven, the proprietor, of Ty Castell prior to travelling to stay in Caerphilly on Friday 17th May to attend a funeral in Cardiff. He was very professional and helpful. I called him again on my day of arrival to sort out booking in and it was a very smooth process. The room was at the front of the property and it was spacious, light, airy and clean. It had an ample size bathroom with good water pressure in the shower. The double room had tea and coffee making facilities. All in all my impression of Ty Castell was very favourable and would recommend it to anyone. I would certainly stay there again.

I was greeted at the door by Steve. He could not of been more friendly and helpful. The entire premises was immaculately clean, spacious and everything you would need for a short stay. The breakfast was great and good value. Needed to do some work and there was no pressure time wise to check out.

There was nothing i didn't like. If i could offer any feedback it would be nice to have some background music in the breakfast room, just for some atmosphere.

Really liked this guest house. Steve the host was very friendly and accommodating and does an excellent breakfast. Location is great as the road is quiet but you can easily walk into town or to the station for Cardiff. Big airy comfortable room and excellent parking. We are already planning to come back next year :-)

Perhaps a larger mirror in the room would be good? - that's about it!

Convenient location, walked from the train station, 10 min. walk to town/Castle. Steve is very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was nice/good value, (cash only/arrange the time the night before). Room was spacious with large windows/light, bathroom was basic, beds were comfortable. Would recommend!

Breakfast was fantastic and home-made to order (in our case vegetarian). Place was very clean, Steve was very friendly and helpful, the shower was great and the location was good too. We like a little walk after dinner back to the accommodation, and it it was a short walk, but enough to get some air and stretch the legs. Uphill on the way home. Well placed for visiting the castle.

It's not going to win any interior design awards, but it absolutely ticked every box it needed to.
