We really enjoyed our stay at Ty Mynydd Lodge. Lisa was very friendly and welcoming and went out of her way to help us, even so far as giving us a lift back to the train station as we had lots to carry. Out room was cosy, clean and tidy and we loved the attention to detail in the extras such as bottled water and Welsh cakes - exactly what we needed after a long journey! The location was ideal and there are plenty of facilities within walking distance, including a small supermarket, a restaurant, a bar and a pub with a large menu of traditional 'pub grub' catering to everyone's tastes. The Roald Dahl connection was really interesting and there was plenty of photos and artifacts for fans of his books. We can't recommend Ty Mynydd Lodge highly enough - a real home-from-home!

The bedroom was small but very nicely decorated with some pleasant additions in décor. We even had a vase of daffodils which was a lovely addition. The bed was lovely and comfortable. The bathroom was very large and bright with a corner bath and shower that was extremely good. Good shaving facilities with a large hand basin and overhead lighting. The usual tea-making facilities and biscuits were included and there was plenty of room to actually make the drinks. The room was warm with a good sized radiator in the room and heated towel rail in the bathroom. Breakfast room was a little small but there was a good selection of fresh fruits and cereals. Out hostl Lisa, was fantastic cook and I had the best scrambled eggs I've ever had in any establishment, including my own! On my firsy morning I opted for porridge which I was pleased to see wasn't the instant variety. Toast with homemade jams and all the other usual offerings were available with a large pot of tea and cafetiere. A small lounge area for evening gatherings was nice and cosy with a large log burner keeping the room warm. Lisa was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome. Her friendly approach to guests was way beyond I've ever experience, making us feel relaxed and "at home". She guided us to local eateries: one Italian and the other pub-grub both of which were delicious and plentiful. Our overall experience was made better by Lisa's enthusiasm for her guests.
A small discomfort for me was the pillows were too hard for me to sleep, though my husband slept well on them. Also, the shower water didn't run away on my first day as the plug was blocked with a lot of hair. I removed this, though not pleasant as it wasn't my hair, the water drained well after that.

As for the staff, facilities, food, cleanliness, welcome, location and comfort, I give 100%. Lisa made us feel very welcome. But I regret I cant give a total 100% because of a small issues. The place is very small, and everything feels tight, dinky and miniature. Shower room and toilet is very tight. It looks like they tried their best to squeeze everything in there, which I am afraid doesn't work. No space to put your toiletries, had to use the too of toilet, and we couldn't dress in there. You can hardly change your mind in there. There is no space for a desk and the armchair is made for a child. We had to do work from our beds. Beds are a bit dated and mattresses past the use by date. My back was a bit achy the next morning. Other than that, superb 'little' place. Breakfast room also small and tiny.

We booked this lodge as it was rated well and is situated close to Cardiff centre, while still being in a very quiet and pleasant area. Honestly we did not expect how fantastic it would be. Lisa the owner is absolutely fantastic and so welcoming. She makes you feel comfortable from the moment you meet her and it really felt a home from home. The room we had was very clean and comfortable, it had an internet TV that was great for a bit of chill time after all the sight seeing. The bed was really comfy and both me and my wife slept great. It also had a full en-suite bathroom and a spacious corner bath. The morning breakfast was brilliant and Lisa really went the extra mile in making it a great experience. There is a train station a pleasant 10 min walk down the road that takes you straight to Cardiff centre or Cardiff bay and the trains are very regular and cheap. Next trip we will get the train straight to Radyr from home rather than driving, as it’s so easy to get to. Absolutely 10/10 from us and we look forward to going back to explore Radyr more, there is allot of woodland around the area that looks beautiful and definitely warrants a good explore.

A very enjoyable stay despite awful weather thanks to Lisa's warm welcome and hospitality. A very comfortable room supplied with all you need plus a lounge with wood burner made for a very pleasant stay. Excellent range of choice for breakfast with cereals, fruit, yoghurt and juice plus toast, croissants and home cooked options set us up well for the day ahead and the location is convenient for Radyr station which makes taking the train into the city centre easy.
Just the weather (we visited during Storm Darragh)! We will definitely return sometime soon to explore the things we missed this time.

Everything.! Lisa was an exceptional host, she couldn't be more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.! She gave us shortcuts to our planned activities, (saving us both time and money) and gave advice on the best places to visit and eat. The room was beautifully kept, spotless, and the beds were really comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, with a range of options, simply perfect. My granddaughter and I will definitely be going to stay there again, hopefully Christmas time this year.! Thank you Lisa. Love Leander and Seren.
There was nothing we didn't like.

Characterful lodge with oodles of charm, it hugs you with coziness which doesn’t stop until the day you leave. The Roald Dahl connection is downplayed but in the lovely lounge, bedrooms and breakfast room you will be more than inspired. You are spoiled rotten and sad to leave this lovely place. Within walking distance of Radyr station and a country pub for evening meal ( if you have room after the sumptuous breakfast) you will definitely want more than one visit.
Having to say goodbye to our hostess Lisa more like family than landlady.

We had a lovely welcome from Lisa The ambience was homely welcoming and warm. Everything was lovely and clean. And well equipped The breakfast was great and plenty of choice. Nothing was too much trouble and Lisa was very friendly.
The beds were too soft for us but its a personnel preference and the room was okay but the bathroom a bit small. Could have done with a bedside table.. It was ideal for what we wanted and would definatley stay again.

The host, Lisa, couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating and runs a very professional service. She gave some great suggestions of things to do in the local area for our young family. Rooms were of an excellent size and everything was very clean. The communal lounge is also an excellent option rather than having to always be in a bedroom. Breakfast was well prepared perfect for the kids. I would highly recommend staying here.

Excellent two nights stay at the Ty Mynydd Lodge. Lovely warm welcome from Lisa. Double bedroom spot on with en-suite bathroom with shower. There was plenty of storage in the bedroom, tv, coffee/tea making facility & lovely little extras - welcome personalised heart slate on the bedroom door, welsh cakes, bottled water, toiletries & dressing gowns. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Shared use of lounge area for the guests. Everywhere clean & tidy. Off road parking. Good location for the Cardiff area. Highly recommend. Hope to stay again soon. Diolch yn fawr.
