A great stay at this iconic Cardiff landmark. A fantastic location in the heart of the city centre, opposite the Castle. An impressive looking entrance lobby. A warm welcome at reception. A few bits of wear and tear in places, as is inevitable in a large building of this age. My room was a very good size for a single room and nice and bright.. Well furnished with a modern bathroom suite. Tea & coffee provided. Daily room service.
A matter of subjective preference but I found the room a little too warm, even though the radiator wasn't on. The aircon control didn't seem to make any difference. An uncaffeinated drink option in the room would've been nice and a few biscuits.

The location of The Angel is perfect next to Cardiff Castle, Bustops, walking distance to Bute Park and National Museum, Principality Stadium, and to Cardiff Central Train Station etc.. Staff at The Angel all pleasant and helpful, lovely breakfast, Reception area is classy, with chandeliers and a clue to it's beautiful past.. My room was OK, but needs updating, and a lick of fresh paint, The bathroom was fine apart from the area next to the sink which looked shabby with worn away top, bathroom was clean apart from behind the door which needed a clean, great shower.. Would have been nice if there was a comfortable tub chair instead of a suitcase stand. Not sure why room has three table lamps and a standard lamp plus mirror light. . Hotel is next to a busy road but you don't really notice it. Very comfortable bed. I would definitely stay at The Angel again.
I liked it, apart from the minor details mentioned above.

location and price
upon arrival on front steps, a large splodge of pigeon mess was dried on the glass and on the front porch, it wasnt fresh as totally dry. thsis was still there when we departed following morning. not a good example. receptionist was helpful at check in but i couldnt hear what she was saying as the other chap on reception, was bellowing at the top of his voice down the phone to somebody drowning out all other conversations in the lobby. For a hotel in a prime spot in a capital city more attention to detail is required, they could then command the prices of other hotels in the vacinity

The property was really well located with a maximum of a 10 minute walk from the train station. When you walk in, it’s a very well presented lobby. Staff were really welcoming and very polite and very helpful, it was very quick and easy for checking. The bathrooms had really good hot water which made the shower very nice, plenty of room in the bathrooms which is quite nice. The beds of themselves were really comfy. The hotel overlooked the castle and like I would’ve say it’s one hell of a view at night, and it is very well located to all the eateries and bars.
I put the room for two people however we only were given room facilities for one as in towels et cetera, I would say the rooms could do with updating as the bathrooms seem they have been left and have seen better days blood pressure in the shower wasn’t great. There was no cushion to the headboard it was just I assume a piece of MDF wood, which to be fair during the night I did head but a couple of times and it hurt.

The hotel is in a wonderful location, not far from the station and right by the castle. Our main reason for being in Cardiff was to visit the Museum which was only a few minutes' walk away. Our room was ideal and in a position within the hotel which suited us and was in line with what I'd requested. It was a very good size, warm and relatively comfortable. We liked the olde worlde ambience and the whole place had a lovely, if slightly tired, charm with plenty of space, a light and airy entrance way and grand staircase. The breakfast was fine.
We ate at the hotel one night. Our meals were good; we enjoyed them but the waiting staff could have been a touch more attentive, not standing in groups chatting.

Our son and partner have moved to Cardiff so my wife and I stay at this hotel when visiting. All of the staff are excellent along with the comfort and cleanliness of the hotel. The breakfasts are great and the food is replenished right up to closing, unlike many hotels. The hotel was fully booked on this last visit so we had to have a suite - now we are spoilt and will have to have a suite on future visits.
No car park - not happy in leaving my car overnight in a center NCP Hotel a little tired but spotlessly clean which to us makes up for it. You have to also appreciate the age of the hotel.

The facilities are very well kept and clean. The staff was always very kind and willing to provide a good service. The location of the hotel is excellent. The room was comfortable. I would highlight the bathroom with a nice bathtub, and a towel warmer which was a nice touch to make the experience very comfortable, particularly after being out in the rain; and the breakfast options which very good overall.
Overall I do no think there is something to criticize about this hotel. If I had to pick something to improve, it would be that some days the line to enter the breakfast area were long because the person assigned was busy tending to the guests and not in their post. But I think it is very understandable and it did not impact my experience in any negative way.

Location is right in the city centre opposite the castle, and very close to the Principality stadium . The hotel is not a modern "plastic" hotel but one with a lot of character. Our room was not huge, but perfectly adequate and clean. Breakfast was freshly cooked and hot, with proper fresh mushrooms, bacon perfectly cooked, proper fresh grilled tomatoes, and the rest of a cooked breakfast, as well as the usual cereals, breads, pastries, cold meats, cheeses etc. Restaurant staff were friendly and efficient.
Nothing really. The only problem was that the lifts were faulty and being repaired, meaning we had to use the stairs. But that was a very temporary problem, which was swiftly resolved.
