The Angel is a grand hotel of it's time, with impressive lobby and balcony staircases, hand painted marbling and classical statues. I've been a patron in one way or another for over 35 years and I love this Cardiff institution. The staff were friendly and helpful, an in-house bar was appreciated after a long day of shopping in the capital city. The beds were incredibly comfy and the room I had was quiet enough although I can imagine that if you're roadside it would be noisy.

Unfortunately as with many of the UK classic hotels the rooms have not really moved with the times. A bath, individual hot/cold taps and carpeting, single glazed windows and an underperforming air-conditioning system. It was fine for me but would not have impressed my Scandi wife. My greatest takeaway from my stay was how undoubtedly enforced fire regulations had sucked the opulence from the hotel. The fire prevention doors and walls which separated the staircases made everything feel constricted. I'd urge the hotel to look at other fire door options, maybe fitted to every room individually which would return this grand old building to its pre 1990's grandeur.

The hotel was in a perfect location for what we needed. We had a lovely view of Cardiff Castle. The building itself gives off a grand feel. The bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed in the room, including some nice products. The staff were very helpful and nice. We had room service and the food was palatable, really quite nice.

The windows weren't very clean and didn't open a lot - it would have been nice to be able to let some air in properly. One of my pillows had what looked like mould dots on it. Some of the decor was shabby and it could do with updating. Would have been nice to have a fridge. My pet hate though, is a shower curtain. I HATE shower curtains and think they should be out lawed! There are alternatives. The bar downstairs says 'till late'. I think if there are people in the bar and staff available, the bar should remain open, not be closed when people would like to stay and socialise (obviously not for rampant drunkeness but we met a lovely couple that we were chatting to and basically got told - bye!)

I found the staff very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. This was really helpful as I am partially sighted. My room was plenty big enough for a couple so I had lots of room to spread out. It was light and airy and the decor was lovely. I didn’t originally book breakfast but had it twice. The staff were again amazing. The waitress made my toast and organized all I wanted to eat. Fabulous. For my first stay akone in an hotel since becoming partially sighted it was a great experience and has encouraged me to do it again. The angel hotel is busy but has lots of staff All wanting to make your stay as brilliant as possible. They even organise sunny days for me! Bonus

Leaving, I would have liked to stay longer. Maybe next time

We originally chose this hotel as it was just a short walk from the Coach Station, we first went in September 2024, loved it so much that we’ve just spent another 5 nights there, the staff are lovely, it’s central to every thing we wanted to do, a short walk into the centre of Cardiff, the breakfast is amazing, didnt have an evening meal as we were there to visit friends and went out with them every day and ate at lunchtime. lovely comfortable clean room, we felt very much at home and will definitely be visiting the Angel hotel again this year.

Not really a problem but wish both of the lifts were working, didn’t really matter but as all the rooms are are above ground level there are rather a lot of stairs to climb if it was busy, but we managed even though we are both disabled.

More than a hotel – a place where I felt safe, seen, and human 🩷🏳️‍⚧️ I came to Cardiff for Pride Cymru as a trans woman, carrying the usual quiet fears: will I be judged? Will I feel out of place? But from the moment I stepped into Angel Hotel, everything changed. The man at the front desk didn’t just check me in. He spoke to me with kindness, asked about my journey, and truly listened. I don’t cry often — but when I walked away from that conversation, I went to the lift and quietly cried. Not from fear or sadness… but because someone saw me. He treated me like I belonged. To the manager: please pass my thanks to the man who welcomed me. He made me feel human again. Not just accepted, but understood. That moment meant the world to me, and I’ll carry it forever. The staff were lovely, the location perfect — but the reason I’ll return isn’t just convenience. It’s because your hotel gave me something rare: dignity, safety, and hope. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. – Chloe 🩷

Only this I would advise if someone was going to be booking here, it is in central Cardiff, which means it can be noisy, but they do provide earplugs if you are struggling to sleep.

Location! Location! Location! Fantastic location right opposite the Cardiff castle abd bute park, 10 mins from the station and to the National museum by walk. Breakfast has lot of choices (eggs, bacon, mushrooms, hash browns, cold cuts, fruits, yogurt,  etc.). Front office staff was helpful. The mattress was too soft for us and they changed it upon request . Got a first floor room which was good for us. Has a nice bar ss well.

No tissue box in the bathroom Suggest to keep a mini fridge and hiar dryer, slippers Room has cracks, rusted bathroom taps. repairs and uplift One elevator was out of order

A great stay at this iconic Cardiff landmark. A fantastic location in the heart of the city centre, opposite the Castle. An impressive looking entrance lobby. A warm welcome at reception. A few bits of wear and tear in places, as is inevitable in a large building of this age. My room was a very good size for a single room and nice and bright.. Well furnished with a modern bathroom suite. Tea & coffee provided. Daily room service.

A matter of subjective preference but I found the room a little too warm, even though the radiator wasn't on. The aircon control didn't seem to make any difference. An uncaffeinated drink option in the room would've been nice and a few biscuits.

Bed was absolutely comfortable. Plenty of tea & coffee in the room & replenished daily. Clean w a heated towel warmer. The location is very close to the train station w a minimal & easy walk & across from the Cardiff Castle & numerous "arcades," shopping, & eating establishments. The cost of the room was perfect.

While we didnt expect air conditioning, the outer window was only allowed to open 6" & had another set of windows infront of the outer window. The inner windows had 2 panels, only allowed to open one side @ a time. This did not allow much of air flow inside. There is a type of moveable fan in the room, tho we were still warm @ night w it. (We have learned to bring our own rechareable, portable bedside fans.) And the internet in our room was horrendous! If we were in the hallway, it was better. We did complain, they came to the room & agreed it was bad, & offered to "reroom" us. We didnt want to repack & move so we stayed in the room w virtually no internet.

Great location across the road from Cardiff Castle which is a lovely spot. The staff are really friendly and helpful, we were checked in by a French lady who was so nice, unfortunately I didn't get her name but she was very helpful with recommendations and just a lovely person to meet 😊 the hotel decor is a bit dated but comfortable and everywhere was very clean. The pub is nice and there is a good lounge area. Our room had a window with a view of the castle which was a really nice surprise also!

Pint of Guinness is £7 and wasn't poured correctly - this seemed to be the way for every pub we visited in Cardiff, lots of Guinness available but couldn't get one that was poured right.

The location of The Angel is perfect next to Cardiff Castle, Bustops, walking distance to Bute Park and National Museum, Principality Stadium, and to Cardiff Central Train Station etc.. Staff at The Angel all pleasant and helpful, lovely breakfast, Reception area is classy, with chandeliers and a clue to it's beautiful past.. My room was OK, but needs updating, and a lick of fresh paint, The bathroom was fine apart from the area next to the sink which looked shabby with worn away top, bathroom was clean apart from behind the door which needed a clean, great shower.. Would have been nice if there was a comfortable tub chair instead of a suitcase stand. Not sure why room has three table lamps and a standard lamp plus mirror light. . Hotel is next to a busy road but you don't really notice it. Very comfortable bed. I would definitely stay at The Angel again.

I liked it, apart from the minor details mentioned above.
