The staff were lovely, particularly Vanessa at breakfast. The food was beautifuly home cooked, both dinner in the pub restaurant bar and breakfast, which had a great choice and was beautifully prepard. The room linens, comfy bed and complimentaries / hospitality basket were a lovely, generous touch. The Chequers is fantastically placed for getting to different areas of the island, travelling on quiet , picturesque roads. Large car park and out of hours access to B and B guests.
Although we didn't choose the 'luxury king room', so in effect chose the 'budget double' - we planned to walk long days, dine in the evening and so basically need the room for sleeping and showering - we didn't envisage that a double bed and two people could co-exist in such as small space!! As a single room, it would be lovely, but having to shuffle sideways round one side and the end of the bed - and not be able to open the ensuite door as the bedding stopped it(!) was challenging. We couldn't bend over the basin without 'massaging our posterior' on the door, so it was neessary to leave the ensuite door ajar! A sweet, clean , warm space, with quality products, but just too tiny for two to tango! Choose the larger room!

Breakfast was very good except on first morning and the staff were friendly. The location was excellent in centre of island with countryside views There was a good choice of evening meals.
My first breakfast was scrambled egg which was laden with salt and almost inedible. I was not the only customer who found this, the people on the next table did not eat theirs. My evening meal on the first day took over an hour to arrive and I had to ask where it was. I received no apology for it having been overlooked, but in compensation I was not charged for it. My meals arrived promptly on all other evenings of my stay.

Beautiful surroundings, amazing food and friendly staff. We stayed with our children, 2yrs and 6yrs, the room had loads of space for playing and they had a blast in the huge bath tub! There is a substantial play park in the garden with horses in the field next door. The breakfast included with the room was amazing, with all local produce, freshly made, and dinner was exceptional
The games room wasn't open as we stayed in November, and the sofa bed was quite uncomfortable for adults but fine for our 2yr old. A lamp in the room would have been great.

Location was excellent. The staff were all very nice and chatty. We had a good reception. Evening meal was superb and the atmosphere was good. Breakfast was excellent and the lady who served us explained things very well and couldn't do enough for us. Excellent
The room was very cold when we entered. All the windows had been open. There were gaps in the windows and the wind blew through making it colder. There was a heater in the wardrobe which we had to use to warm the place up.

One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. Not only is it wholesome and plentiful, the two ladies who attended to us were so friendly, eager to help and knowledgeable about the surroundings and attractions. At so many hotels and such like, you arrive in the breakfast room and are just expected to help yourself and get on with it. At the Chequers Inn you are served. The Chequers Breakfast is strongly recommended though the omelette runs it a close second. The room we were allocated is excellent in both facilities and comfort offering both a large king size bed, sofa and occasional fold away bed. It offers great views over the local farms and downlands. The bathroom is very modern with a huge corner bath and separate shower stall. Even though the room is over the public bar, it is still quiet and no noise intrusion was noticed. Whilst the road is close by, traffic is slight after 9 pm and does not bother you during the night. We also had evening meals which we selectred from a good range of dishes all cooked to perfection, very hearty and of good value for money. The Inn is centrally located which makes it perfect for visits to all parts of the island. The WIFI is limited in that it will accommodate emails and such, but the bandwidth is inadequate for streaming video and other high volume requirements. At present there are a lot of road closures on the island so it would be well to seek the patron's advice on routings to attractions etc.
This is an excellent location for a short stay and there is nothing that one could dislike.

This is the perfect country pub. It is stylish and clean and the food is excellent, but it is not in the slightest pretentious or ‘gastro’. We ate a delicious dinner, stayed in an extremely comfortable, well decorated and well maintained, family room and ate a hearty, gourmet standard, breakfast featuring local produce. The rate for the room and breakfast was so reasonable it seemed wrong not to be paying more. Best of all, the staff were unusually friendly, welcoming and good with our three, often boisterous, children. They even rang us ahead of our arrival to warn that there was a party being held in the pub the evening of our arrival and letting us know that it might be noisy (which it was not!). I could not recommend this hotel and restaurant more highly.

An excellent standard of cleanliness in a spacious, comfortable room with every amenity provided. Plentiful choice and quantity of great quality food included for breakfast and a good varied menu in the on site restaurant for lunch and evening meals. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Central location was ideal for easily getting around all of the island attractions.
Although rooms were supposedly soundproofed there was quite a lot of late night noise from the bar and from passing traffic. The room was quite cold at times, the radiators were not turned on despite cold and inclement weather, there was just a small mobile electric heater available for the large bedroom area and a heated towel rail in the bathroom. Outside, although a large car park, there were no dedicated disabled parking spaces close to the entrance making access difficult for the less mobile, especially if carrying luggage. Once inside, help with taking bags up and down stairs was given at check-in and check out.

English pub in the country. Very pleasant atmosphere and very good and very generous included English breakfast. Staff very helpful and nice. Very clean.
Was not too near anything. It gets dark so early and the roads are narrow and hazardous in the dark. My room very small but well equipped, my son and daughter in laws room was very large and very nice. Stairs very narrow and wouldn’t be handicapped accessible.

The staff were amazing and the whole experience excellent. THe staff made a special effor for my mother's birthday, singing Happy Birthday and presenting some goodies on a decorated plate and did same for their anniversary celebration. All really lovely and much appreciated. The food was absolutely delicious. The sunday roast was a s good as home (which is a huge compliment). Really lovely special stay.

Staff were excellent. We were a very last minute booking because our ferry was cancelled but they were all outstandingly polite, good natured, helpful and accommodating. It was clean, spacious, surprisingly well sound proofed from the main pub, lovely and warm. Dinner and breakfast both offered a lot of variety and tasted great.
We had the family room and whilst the main king size bed was comfortable the single little camp style bed and the sofa bed mattresses were clearly coming to the end of their usable life and for comfort could do with replacing.
