The Veteran is a not for profit organisation that supports veterans and ex servicemen as well as a range of other veterans. The hotel is lovely and the location is superb. All the staff are very friendly and can’t do enough for you. It is directly opposite Ryde station and the arrivals/departures for the Hovercraft. Parking is available for £2 overnight in the hovercraft car park 6pm-8am and then a charge of £2.40 for up to 2 hours. The pub below the hotel (same owners!) also offered us 10% off our drinks as we had booked to stay, but given everything the business stands for we couldn’t accept it. The pub below is very reasonably priced as well and I would recommend staying here to anyone! Good luck to the current owners in purchasing the property from the Landlord and continuing this movement they have created.
The only downside for others staying would be that there are no lifts. Other than that, there is nothing else I could fault.

This was a lovely hotel on the seafront looking over Ryde beach and ferry terminal! We enjoyed the good view, which you could still see sitting on the bed! The food they do was also delicious to eat and they do great beer!! Right near the catamaran terminal, train station and bus station, which was good for touring round the Island by bus, which we did!
There wasn't anything really that we didn't like, but just to say that no lift and a few stairs, which I managed to use, so if not very mobile you could have trouble getting up to the top for the rooms!

The room was absolutely gorgeous, and very comfy with a lovely view. I spent a lot of time in the Veteran bar downstairs too and all of the staff and regulars were incredibly friendly! I basically got adopted by the lot of them. I was over for my friends wedding and everyone remembered that and asked how it went. I was only there for a week but it honestly felt like I'd known everyone for years, and I had a great time whether I was having a drink with people or just sitting quietly doing a crossword at the bar. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in ryde I absolutely reccomend the veteran, even if you don't want to visit the bar (which you should!) the room is incredible for the price! I also don't know why booking.com decided I'm from Cambodia, but I was visiting from Ireland!

In general we had a great time at the hotel and the rooms were good and clean. Room 3 was really nice and my parents loved it. The common guest kitchen where we could use the microwave extra utensils and the kitchen sink was very useful and was really a nice touch. I think the initiative at the hotel supporting the veterans and the community is a very good thing and I wish that the hotel is very successful.
Room 6 is advertised as a Deluxe large double with sea view, I think it should be advertised as a normal double room with sea view. The wifi was not working, but it was being fixed when we were leaving, so it should be good.

There wasn't a breakfast as such but food could be bought at times from the bar. There was a kitchen & dining area within the building if you wished to take in your own food to heat & prepare it, with a cupboard allocated to each room containing your own utensils, along with a fridge to store any fodstuffs.
The shower in the shower room had a slow drain runaway & could, after a period of use slowly fill the shower pan, but turning off the water to soap yourself gave ample time for it to drain. In my room & the shower room below, where there were indications of a previous roof/ceiling leak but didn't detract from the cleanliness or comfort.

Fantastic location if you want to be near Waterfront /Hovercraft and literally across road from busport, very handy. Restaurants, shops, chemist all walking distance. Room was fresh and immaculately clean with lovely view from bay window where you could let fresh air in. Small fridge in Seaview Room (2) and plates, cutlery and glasses, kettle etc for two. Communal kitchen was modern and very large although didnt notice any fridge. Staff, although were always busy they were helpful. Modern bathroom with large shower and very large light up mirror above hand basin.
Somewhere to put soap and shampoo etc in shower instead of on shower floor would be useful. Hand basin didnt have any room/shelf to place items on.

Looks down on the hovercraft terminal! We didn't find the noise intrusive even sleeping with the window open. If you go down to watch it from the railway bridge hang onto your hat when it turns round - railway line if full of hats! They also do wellness breaks for ex-military, it's as much a charity as a theme pub! Room 9 is small but nicely decorated and equipped. Shower is large with oodles of hot water that comes through quickly, absolutely top rate by any comparison. We thought the whole thing was a real experience that will remain with us for many years, unlike most budget accomodation that is forgotten in a few weeks. There are some great restaurants very close, Michaelangelo's was superb and the Indian up the High St also VG. Once booked in access is through a side door rather than the bar.
Advertises as having wifi throughout but this is zero signal on top floor, guest book confirms this is not just us at the time we were there. Also advertises as having parking but absolutely does not. There is a pay car park which you can park in 6-8 for £2 just along the road, or after 4 you can pay £3.60 and that covers overnight as well. During the day it's pretty expensive though so you really need to be planning to be elsewhere. Was almost empty when we were there just after the festival. Should not come up in a search for accom with parking.

A very clean and well-maintained hotel with stunning views. Our toddler spent hours happily watching the world go by through the window—buses, hovercrafts, cars, boats—just about anything you can imagine.
The hotel is located above a pub, so you may hear moderate noise until around midnight. It wasn’t too bad in our case—we were able to sleep without any issues—but it could be a concern depending on your sensitivity to noise.

Amazing sea views, nice modern room, very comfy bed and quiet despite being above a pub.... Although it is noisy as you can hear customers chatting outside until late even if your on the top floor... worse at the weekend! Location is perfect esp if you need to use public transport , theres a train, bus and even hovercraft right in front!!!
Theres no attention to client whatsoever, those behind the bar are used for hotel guests and they really don't care, and not friendly, i wasnt even asked for any id at check in, nor given the WiFi etc. The room was exceptionally small, no place to put your suitcase down or a desk even to throw your things on. Even in the bathroom your head hits the mirror if you want to bend to use the sink (although you hit a very swanky cupboard with digital timer in the mirror)

Great location, lovely bright, clean bedroom, bathrooms and kitchen. You get your own shelf, cutlery, crockery and glasses, food drawer and allocated bit of fridge in the kitchen and there's loads of room in there. There's a lounge you can eat or hang out in if you want to. The staff were really nice and the pub downstairs is friendly and nobody bothers you if you're alone. Never had to wait for the bathroom so no problem with not having an ensuite. Bus terminal is right opposite and the cool arcade with antique shops, AJ's diner and the wee museum is just around the corner.
Nobody showed me the kitchen and lounge so it was as well I remembered it was there. I'm not really complaining though because the guy who showed me my room carried my bag upstairs! The pie and mash isn't £6.99 either, which I think it was in the pictures on Booking.Com. I couldn't get Netflix or iPlayer on the tele because it wouldn't connect to the internet but I didn't ask anyone for help and I'm not a tele user usually, so I'm not really complaining about that either. Maybe some instructions would have been handy.
