This is one of the friendliest hotels I have ever been too. The staff are outstanding, so accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent, presentation and flexibility. Rooms were spacious and clean. Lovely new bathrooms have been installed. Staff work together to create a wonderful experience. The hotel is tired. Investment is slowly being put back into the place and they are putting new carpets down in hallways and stairs very soon. The hotel would have been an absolute gem in it hay day and the staff want to get it back there. If you want all singing and dancing luxury they are not there yet. However if you want a friendly experience, made to feel valued this is the place to be. I hope the locals also start using this restaurant more they won’t be disappointed.

The colour in main restaurant needs changing. Too dark. Also perhaps see if some can be screened off in quieter times seems vast. Get all fairy lights working lol. Pretty but only 30% work. Put outside flower boxes to make kerb appeal so people come in… First impressions matter. With the stunning outstanding views from the windows, need it as appealing when you walk in… In bar area soften windows to make more cosy.

So convenient for Oxford Henley and tour of the Midsomer villages. Staff lovely, friendly and helpful. Room and bathroom clean and tidy. Beds comfortable. The price very reasonable as it included b&b and half-pension. Food reasonably good..More choice for menu would have been nice.. Free parking. Over all very good.

The hotel both inside and outside is in need of some (very costly) tlc. Hopefully the owners will one day invest in this. Being on the Thames and so conveniently situated we and I am sure many other people would pay quite a bit more if it were to be modernised.

Staff were great, just the right balance between friendly and professional. Food was good too. Our recently refurbished bathroom was good, well laid out and with a strong shower. Pet friendly and our dog was very happy to get treats brought to her by the staff. They couldn't have been more accommodating about letting us eat in the bar with our dog although dogs aren't allowed in the dining room which is fair enough.

As others have said the hotel is a little run down in places. The downstairs areas like the bar and restaurant are good but upstairs corridors and bedrooms need a bit more work.

Location, staff friendly & helpful. Great size room. Nice view of river from our room.

No air conditioning or lift luckily not too many stairs to navigate with our luggage. No walk-in shower. No tissues in room. Need new kettle in room, the plastic lid was very warn/cracked. Exterior needs some attention/repairs as do wooden benches/tables on grassed searing areas. Parking bays need marking to assist guests on where to park.

The location was absolutely perfect. It is situated in a quiet backwater where heavy traffic is a distant memory.Very picturesque and I was in my happy place with the Thames running alongside you.Room 36 was absolutely stunning. The decor was partly wood slats and wallpaper that complimented the rustic looktoo perfection. The bedroom was more than ample in size and I could do rolly pollys on the floor. The en-suite was stylish comfortable and tastefully In keeping with the ambience of the bedroom.Tastefully decorated luxury high end brass fittings and shower fitments with large rainfall shower or smaller hand held shower if you don’t want to get your hair wet and not as ferocious. The temperature of the room was spot on. The radiators from the central heating pumped out alongside a pan electric heater as the room was a modest size.

The only small criticism if I was being pedantic is the carpets in the main areas have seen better days but they are not thread bare and would cost a small fortune to replace

I loved the area beautiful scenery and old English charm. just over an hour from all London airports. (would recommend hiring a car due to location) the rooms are modernised and clean and the staff are very friendly and down to earth, not the trained false polite staff you get with the big chains.

nothing really. To me the hotel is old with creaky floors and woren carpets in the corridors , winding corridors, almost maze like. This might not be to everyone's taste. but to me it represents character. and a sense of history , unlike the modern steel and glass hotels these days.

Wasn’t too busy so I was upgraded from my single room to a twin room - room 15 ! Very nicely appointed and amazing views of the river ! Shower excellent ! Just a nice place to stay for the night ! Excellent food on my half board basis ! Night time was able to sit by the river with a nice glass of wine . A great stay

Location is great. We have stayed a number of times over the last few years

We always come by boar , so being able to moor up outside the property was a big draw for us. We have always been able to find a space on previous visits. However it seems all the mooring is taken up by long term boat owners. So no option to park by the hotel. The ‘wild moorings are quite a long walk with luggage away and difficult to find a free space. So probably won’t stay again.

We are walking The Thames Path and this was an ideal stop, as it's very close to the path and is quite quiet, something very important when needing a good nights sleep from walking. The room was everything we needed with plenty of space, clean, good shower, good comfy bed and tea/ coffeee making facilities. We had a view of The Thames from our room and even though there was a wedding reception/ disco on, it didn't disturb us. Also had something to eat in the evening and breakfast. Both were good.

Not really a negative, however just an observation. Firstly the building is looking a little tired on the outside. First impressions could be better, but once inside all fine. Also this hotel doesn't have a lot around it and Shillingford is rather small and quiet. This wasn't a bad thing for us, but maybe a consideration for others.

We were travelling with our cat, so we didn't want anyone going in the room while we were out. Room was very clean. Staff were very accommodating.. Excellent location. Food in the bar is really good. Staff very friendly and helpful.

A window in the bedroom was stuck open, I managed to fix it myself with a multitool I had with me after being told there were no maintenance staff available. Quite expensive, but I think everything in the area is.
