The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the food was of very good quality. The room was difficult to cool down ( we couldn’t work our air conditioning) but it was the hottest day of the year.
I didn’t like receiving an email beforehand from the chain’s management telling us we were allowed one coffee or one orange juice with breakfast and had to pay for any extra drinks. It felt unnecessarily mean in spirit and a policy totally out of kilter with the generous attitude of the lovely staff who looked after us during our stay. I’d rather have paid extra for breakfast and not had the stingy email. As it happens, in practice we were offered both drinks with no request for extra payment.

An AMAZING discovery !!! We arrived and were made very welcome by Kim ....all of the staff were just lovely. We were given a complimentary drink because of the room we had booked. We had an evening meal on the Sunday evening when we arrived and I have never tasted meat cooked to such perfection. We had lamb rump and a steak....the food was obviously of excellent quality. We had our dog with us and he was given a sausage for his dinner !! And his water had ice cubes in to cool him down.....he was very spoilt !! As were we. Room was lovely and what I really liked was no sugar sachets !!! There were proper sugar cubes....brown and white and no sachets of ketchup/ mayo etc that you can never open !!! A stocked fridge in the room. Lovely ensuite. Excellent tea and coffee making facilities, an iron and a toaster. I met the owners this morning and they are clearly passionate about their business and their customers. Car park on site Would HIGHLY recommend.
The only issue for me was that there were no windows in the actual room that could be opened. However, there was a small skylight above the bed and I was shown how to open it, but I have a very bad spider phobia and I was too afraid to open it !! So that's on me The room was very warm, but a tower fan was supplied which I used.

Staff really went above and beyond to accommodate us and we're very welcoming. The food at the pub was quite pricey (for us Australian atleast) but was the best food I've eaten in England and would recommend it. The rooms were very pretty with Netflix on the TV
The rooms got incredibly hot and stuffy in June, the only window was a skylight so we often had to prop the door open with a chair. The bathroom was also dirty on the walls. One of my pet hates with hotels is those tiny single milks, id expect more from a nice hotel like this.

The room and en-suite were lovely. The staff were exceptionally nice and helpful. Rooms were private and there was plenty of parking. I enjoyed the outside dining space for breakfast. The breakfast was very nice.
The bathroom floor could be cleaner and the coffee machine was full with used coffee pods and coffee drips. There was sone wear and tear that hadn’t been maintained but this didn’t affect my stay. The minibar was well stocked but very pricy. The parking area is being upgraded so it was functional but looked like a building site in areas.

The property is beautiful with a wonderful pub attached. Internal decoration of the pub is exactly what I’d expect of an upper market rustic pub. The rooms are appropriately decorated, completely in keeping with the setting. The staff excelled at all opportunities and are a credit to the business. The location setting is perfect, with Oxford centre only 20 minutes away.
The bed in room 8 is very hard, sadly resulting in little sleep the night of our stay. Mattresses are personal preference but neither me nor my partner slept well, sadly impacting what was a lovely visit. As has been mentioned by others the communal area can be noisy, especially with obnoxious loud neighbours as was the case during our visit. A form of sound deadening on the door could help reduce this possible issue in future.

The staff at the restaurant and reception for the hotel were fabulous. Very attentive and friendly :) the food was outstanding and we ate every single bit, we had dinner and dessert and in the morning we had a full breakfast which was perfectly cooked. Honestly it was great! Shower was really nice and bed was comfortable.
The room was nice but a bit chilly and only other thing to change would be the pillows… they were rock hard ! Other than that everything was lovely ! Would definitely reccomend and would stay again. Thank you X

Food was wonderful as was the pub itself, very cosy ...but it was the staff that truly made this , they were all a complete delight and a real credit to the place, well done ! Parking also plentiful and easy.
If I am being really picky , I would say the bed could have been a King size with a less firm mattress , but as I said , this is really looking for where things could be even better .

Room lovely, warm and clean. Staff were brilliant and very helpful when we arrived early to travel into Oxford to the theatre. They offered to put our bags in the room and gave us the key in case we were late returning in the evening. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic, choice of one item made to order and there was plenty, very tasty and piping hot.
Missing some biscuits in the room to go with tea and coffee, had we known would have brought some! Pillows were very uncomfortable unfortunately, and could do with replacing with better quality, other than that everything else was good. Room quite small and can hear neighbours but adequate for a short stay out of the city.

We chose The Chequers as a mid point meeting place with friends. The rooms were clean and well decorated with large bathroom and, mini bar, coffee machine even an ironing board and iron! The pub/restaurant is comfortable and relaxing with interesting decor. What made our stay was the welcoming staff from check-in staff to bar staff to the breakfast waitress. Everyone was fabulous and made us all feel very welcome. The food was also of a high standard, with dietary requirements happily facilitated. We had dinner and breakfast the next morning. Both were excellent.
We were all happy with our experience at The Chequers.

Fantastically warm welcome when we arrived by one of the waiters. We liked the fact the rooms are in a building outside of the lovely old pub, so therefore it was very quiet (it was a Wednesday night), aside some minor traffic noise. The room and ensuite were really superb with modern underfloor heating so it was very cosy in February. The location was great for us too needing to be near the south Oxford ring-road. The food was delicious - both dinner in the pub and also breakfast.
We were not told that some items on the breakfast menu were in addition to the included items. This was not made clear when we were choosing. But it was still delicious.
