Firstly - very pet friendly, thank you :-). My labrador was welcomed wholeheartedly and the jars of dog biscuits everywhere were a bonus. The £15 pet charge is reasonable and in line with other hotels. I often worry I'll be in a sub standard room with a dog, but this room was not that at all, very comfortable and a good size. Secondly, all the staff I encountered were very friendly - from checking in, to bar, dining and reception. A friend joined me for drinks and we decided to dine there. A problem with our main courses (too much salt) was swiftly resolved with new meals being prepared without fuss or protest. Staff immediately came to apologise and offered us a complimentary drink - which we declined as we had a bottle of wine,but it was a kind gesture. Finally, it's in a good location with private parking. I walked the dog in the evening before bed and it's a lovely town. I would happily stay there again.

The location was great. Parking free at rear of hotel. Fabulous breakfast. Peaceful. Excellent clean room with nice decor.

Booked a meal in restaurant. The starter took almost 40 minutes to arrive . When my main meal arrived it was a steak and ale pie with vegetables and gravy but no potatoes. When I questioned this with the waitress she initially doubted me but then took the plate back to the kitchen and after a couple of minutes came back with mashed potatoes added. Only 5 people in the restaurant. Gentlemen opposite said his food was undercooked and he could not eat it. Register these things with the waitress on leaving who apologised and gave me phone number to speak to senior management in the morning. I did not phone but was given complimentary drink in bar later.

The provision of free electric car charging points was a great bonus.

The breakfast was awful. When I went in, most of the tables still had the detritus from early diners still on the tables, and the English Breakfast when it arrived had obviously been prepared at the start of service and kept too warm since, so had dried out, and the sausages and bacon were tough and leathery. Fortunately I discovered the Dolphin Hotel across the road served a freshly prepared breakfast, at a more reasonable price, so ate there for the rest of my stay.

Room 307. 1. Great location for The Thames Path 2. Beautiful cooked breakfast ordered and brought to the table . In addition you could select food from the Continental self service area. 3. Really professional helpful staff at the bar and reception area. 4. I enjoyed a soak in the bath. Ample toiletries including body lotion. 5. Comfortable bed and lovely and quiet. 6. Great size room for a single ensuite.

1. The mirror in the bathroom would benefit from a light over it 2. Just a minor point; the heated towel rail wasn't working (I reported it on leaving).

The hotel itself is lovely. So are the staff, all very friendly and helpful. Our room was more than adequate. Plenty of space to sit outside with our party of six. Price and availability of coffee was very good.

Bar prices seemed rather high . Unfortunately, the day we were there the chef failed to turn up so the evening menu was very restricted. We went elsewhere. The quality of the breakfasts was fine and the only waiter was as helpful as he could be but they clearly need more staff to serve and to replenish the self service bit.

I loved my stay at The George Hotel! The overall hotel, my room, the staff, the breakfast all met and exceeded my expectations. Tilda was an especially present, helpful, and friendly member of the staff. I would definitely stay here again, and I would definitely recommend others to stay here.

Although Breakfast was very good - offering both 'continental' as well as 'menu' items - they were a little short staffed. The staff that was there worked very hard and were very attentive, but at peak morning hours, they were spread a little thinly. 1 more staff member at breakfast would have made it perfect.

Loved the location. The room was fantastic! Decorated beautifully, and the bed was huge! We really enjoyed the pub, a mix of visitors and locals, all relieved the same welcome. Definitely one we'll be returning to.

The stairs! It's a quirky old building with lots of split levels, meaning a few unexpected short flights up and down. We knew there wasn't a lift so no complaints about that, I just wasn't expecting quite so many!

We only stayed one night at The George Hotel as we attended a wedding nearby. The room was very clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. We parked in the on site car park which is handy.

We couldn't find the car park at first and needed to ring the hotel reception to ask how to gain access to the car park. They were very helpful on the phone, but would be helpful to include instructions in the booking details.

Charming building with lots of character. The staff were very friendly and the central courtyard is a lovely place to sit with a drink.

Although there are ground floor rooms that are possible to access with a wheelchair, the arrangement of the furniture inside them (particularly the desk in room 102) makes it more difficult to get the wheelchair into the room. Further, there are several fire doors between reception and the room and they do not have push button self opening mechanisms, making it even more difficult to access the room.

Excellent room. More coffee/etc sachets than I have ever seen in a room before. Comfortable bed. Shower and overhead spray in large shower area. Breakfast was absolutely brilliant with huge full English. Very friendly staff in restaurant, who were not on hand but in kitchen when I wanted to pass on a personal thank you, unfortunately.

Wanted to go out for early walk at 0730 and didn’t know how to operate the security gate. Quite straightforward as it turned out, and hadn’t checked to see if there was info about that in my room.
