Overall very pleased with everything. The building and rooms are vintage and have a lot of character. It is a very quiet place where you can enjoy a nice retreat and some peace of mind. The room was very clean. The breakfast was very good, it is certainly a plus to be able to start your day with a nice cup of tea and some nice food. We enjoyed having our breakfast in the reception area as well as some exceptional white wine in the night. The staff was friendly and kind and they had some good recommendations for places worth visiting. A very good value for money.

Can't fault anything cause the place delivers exactly what is promised

Everything was lovely. The history of the building is so cool. Lovely countryside surroundings and quaint dining room with only 5 tables. The bed was so comfy, I felt like it was cuddling me. We loved the home cooked food and the excellent breakfast 😋. Also there was a good sized table and chairs in our room and you can choose to eat in your room if you liked. We had breakfast in our pj's served in our room, I loved that. Staff are very attentive and obliging.

There wasn't anything I didn't like

Karen was an absolute delight. She booked breakfast and dinner and it always came exactly on time. The rooms are big and easy to work in with a desk, sofa and everything you need. Breakfast was awesome!

The "foyer" menu was very old fasioned. It was very fancy and I struggled to choose. I would recommend a simple choice of a pasta, curry, pie, burger, pizza, fish or salad but named as such not written with french names. No light in the carpark. Tripped over twice trying to get to my car as was pitch black!

It was like a homecoming - I've not been here for five years but the owner recognised me straight away, remembered my name too and even why I was there before! I had a single room - "The Winchester" - which was spotlessly clean, provided with tea/coffee facilities as well as an iron and hairdryer plus a USB charger and a very comfortable bed indeed. The countryside location is pleasant and it is within easy reach of Royal Wootton Bassett. Breakfast was included in the price and it was delivered to my room at the exact time I requested.

Blackout curtains would have been nice as I'm easily disturbed by light and the only other thing - which is completely out of control of the owners of course - is that the road my room faced can be a little noisy. However, being a light sleeper is my problem!

A lovely hotel, with attentive and welcoming staff. The building is gorgeous and the decor is in keeping with the age which is nice. Breakfast was very good and set me up well for the day ahead. It was within walking distance to Royal Wooton Basset, which was really handy too. And had supermarkets, petrol stations, and restaurants close by too. The actual location of the hotel was very quiet at night, so I slept well.

Friendly welcome. Room was comfortable although decor was dated. The loby area was too small to enjoy breakfast, so rather than eat in the room we opted to eat at a table outside in the lovely weather overlooking the surrounding countryside. The breakfast was extremely good.

The options for dinner or evening snacks were not obvious; hotel staff could have done more on our arrival to sell what was available by offering to show us a menu.

What a fabulous place to stay. Clean, comfortable and a beautiful property in a beautiful location, plus only 20 minutes from Avebury, where I was doing a weekend workshop. Food was really nice and Karen is a delight 🌹😁 I’d highly recommend staying here and will do so when I’m in the area again 😊 P.s. I do t have a photo of the bathroom, so I’ve added a photo of the fab restaurant, in case it says ‘bathroom’ underneath! 😆

Nothing at all 😊

What an absolute gem of a place to find if only every property on Booking was of the same standard. We chose Schoolhouse & Restaurant as a one night stop on our way from Liverpool to Glastonbury for a weeks camping. What we got was totally unexpected. The lady who greeted us was so welcoming and helpful to a fault and the place is so full of character and on top of all this we were treated to breakfast in our room on the morning we were due to depart at no extra cost. A totally delightful and wonderful experience. We shall return.

There is nothing to dislike about this property.

An interesting historic building in a quiet location with plenty of parking. Wiithin walking distance along a country road to Lydiard Park with its extensive grounds, amazing Medieval Church and play areas for children. The host Karen was most helpful and welcoming and the breakfasts and dinners were beautifully cooked and presented. We are looking forward to staying again whenever we're in the area.

A great location. Not far off the M4 but it feels like a countryside escape. It was nice to feel that this was a unique place, a refreshing change from so many hotels these days. Breakfast was lovely, freshly cooked and delivered to the room. The bed was comfortable.

It won't affect everyone, but we didn't realise check in ended at 9pm. We just made it! Also even though the kitchen was closed, hot food cannot be brought onto the premises. Again, we were happy to pick up some sandwiches so it didn't affect our enjoyment of our stay.
