The hotel is in a fabulous location high above Viana do Castelo so the view is amazing. The road up to it is winding but we had a car so that was fine. We saw a few taxis come and go so presumably it is easy to organise transport (the funicular was closed for maintenance during our stay). The food in the restaurant was delicious so we ate there both nights and there was a very comfortable lounge with a bar, and a separate billiard room. The pool looked lovely but was too cold for a swim while we were there. There were plenty of options at breakfast and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.
There was nothing we didn't like.

Polite and friendly welcome on arrival and the same on leaving, clean bedroom with a lovely view, very grand rooms in the bar and restaurant which were beautifully and traditionally decorated and furnished and good views from the restaurant over the town. Would imagine it being beautiful to sit on the terrace in the sunshine which sadly we didn’t have time to do in our stopover and the weather was quite cool and overcast (December). Breakfast was very good, lots of options to choose from. Free parking. Reasonably priced including breakfast.
No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, the restaurant was chilly, dinner in the restaurant was a little disappointing. There was some refurbishment going on but nothing that impacted us in terms of noise or inconvenience.

The hotel is not exactly inside the city, but it's very close. You don't need a car to get there and it's very close to the "elevator" (the funicular, 3€ round trip). The common areas were nice, warm and had beautiful decoration. The food was amazing during dinner and the staff was well trained and kind (I'm grateful to the chef for the surprise entrée), the breakfast was also very good with a nice variety of foods (although the coffee was not very good). I really wish I had had more time to spend at the bar and the outside areas. Next time maybe! The room was simple but comfortable and, most importantly, clean, with a balcony overseeing the sanctuary and the sea. Overall, I definitely recommend and intend to stay there again.
The room was warm - almost too warm - and the thermostat controls didn't work very well. I had to crack open the door to the balcony before going to bed. The coffee during breakfast was really bad.

Superb location and facilities
The only issue we had was that the air conditioning had been switched off in very early October due to a cold spell so the room was very warm and stuffy as the warm weather had returned, this in turn meant getting a decent night's sleep became an issue. This was not the only hotel that had turned of it A/C on our trip to Portugal and Spain. This of course makes a mockery of me choosing hotels with a/c as I am not doing it for fun but for me and my wife to get a good night's sleep. I am also choosing to pay more for this advantage but in none of the cases was a reduction suggested. No where in the hotel details does it say the A/C is turned off in early October!!

Incredible location with sweeping views of the sea, the church and the city. Historic building nicely renovated. Our room was very spacious, with a large bathroom and full bath tub. We enjoyed the pool, which is outdoors also with a beautiful view, a short distance from the main building. The bar and restaurant offer excellent and personal service and have a very classic holiday feel. Breakfast offerings were lovely, and it was so pleasant to sit in the bay window with a view enjoying coffee. The proximity to the Santa Lúzia church and the funicular were great for us, but I can imagine most people will want some assistance getting up the mountain as the location is a bit remote from the city. Everyone we interacted with working in the hotel was so helpful and kind and spoke excellent English. Our stay was incredibly comfortable and enjoyable.

The location and spectacular view from the very small balcony, The meals both breakfast and dinner were good. Plenty of outdoor car park spaces available. A short walk down to the Santa Luzia church and funicular.
The room was a little tired and a lot smaller than we expected for a 'Superior Double' not even a space to put a laptop which had to be balanced on a wobbly small round table. The bathroom, marble tiled was large and out of proportion with the bedroom. Shower over bath.

AMAZING!!!! Wow - you cannot go wrong with this hotel. The staff are as amazing as the views you have from the hotel/room! We are so thankful to the staff for making our stay so comfortable. We walked the Camino and after a long day of walking, we were tired after walking up the stairs to the grounds. If you are planning to stay while on the Camino, we learned there is a train that takes you up the mountain to the hotel (unless you want to add 800 stairs to your steps) :) Regardless, the extra 800 stair climb was worth it to stay here! We can't wait to go back here (and stay longer next time!) GREAT breakfast and amazing dinner, too!

The location was on top of mountain on a very windy road. The property was very nice with a lovely, large pool (not open at the time), good parking, fantastic views, and near some very old Celtic ruins which we visited. There was a funicular that went down to the town which we took to visit the Folk Museum and explore the town; and a lovely church just below the Hotel. A large formal dining room that served a good diners and breakfast, and a living room area that happened to have a flute /piano concert the night we were there. The place has always been a Hotel/Pousada, but was not the historic kind of Pousada. We enjoyed it very much.

The location is amazing. The view is never ending and both sunrise and sunset were magical. The bed/mattress was really comfy. Breakfast on the veranda, lots of choice, we spoke a little Portuguese and made the staff laugh with our efforts but they appreciated this and in return spoke really great English, they made us feel welcome and gave us advice on where to go and showed us shortcuts around the grounds. The swimming pool blew my mind. The view from here is also etched into my memory. 20 mins drive from Do Pincho waterfall. The cable car into town and back. The church. Wow. The view. Wow again.
Erm, hmmm, umm, it has rooms that DON’T have THAT view!!!

This has to be one of the most beautiful settings imaginable - the location is exceptional and the view is spectacular! We truly did not want to leave. Delicious breakfast, really nice room with a breathtaking view, beautiful common areas inside and out, convenience of the funicular access to the city and the great staff (especially Patricia at reception and Filipe, who, as busy as he was, took the time to answer questions and make suggestions - Thank you!) The Hotel itself is a classic beauty and a very special place. We really hope to return!
That we couldn't stay longer.
