Gentleman at front desk (owner) was extremely friendly. We arrived about an hour before our reservation to just see the place, etc and he gave us our room keys. My kids were skeptical because it was a motel, but when we opened the door to our room the look on their faces were priceless. The room was much larger than most hotels, clean, bright, large window and cathedral ceilings which is unheard of in a motel. It even had a shelf/shoe/coatrack at entrance which was fantastic because we could hang all our stuff and put our backpacks there instead of throwing them on the floor. Pool was clean, didn't get to use as we were on the go and when we did have time water was chilly. Most of the other hotels in area are crazy expensive, this one was affordable for a quick weekend trip but would recommend it to anyone. Convenient location to everything too!

It was clean and well maintained. The pool was nice. There is a fridge, microwave and coffee maker in the room so we were able to keep food and heat up leftovers. There is a gourmet food store, the Common Crow, across the street which sells prepared hot and cold food, as well as other items. Location is good, one mile from the beach and about 2-3 miles from downtown. Check in process was easy. There is a pool and a nice garden area that the back door opens out to. Lots of available parking. Good value for the money.

Captains Lodge is a gem! It is perfect for me while I am working in the area. Check-in/check-out is a breeze, the rooms are good sized with vaulted ceilings which makes them feel very open and bright, the rooms have been clean, and there is a pool although I haven't used it, yet. The location is nice, close to downtown areas, and you can't beat the price. I will be back to work in Gloucester for a night or two over the next few weeks and Captains Lodge is where I will stay when I am in town.

Hotel was exceptional!! When I check in, the hotel representative who check me in went above and beyond. She ask if I was here to go to Salem I said yes it’s my first time and we are driving there after checking in. She warn me it not possible to find parking space and advise me to go by train rail. The hotel rep called the train to double check what the next train and the last one that comes back. I had amazing time at Salem because of her. Next year I will be back to this hotel while visiting Salem for Halloween

Room was clean and more spacious than I expected, bed was comfortable, I slept great, curtains keot the daylight out.

Wifi was completely and utterly worthless, I just used the hotspot on my phone and I had to make sure I didn't leave it in certain parts of the room, something in the structure blocks a lot of signal if you're standing in the wrong place. No wall mirror and having the sink and only mirror be in a narrow inlet between two walls was kinda weird and mildly inconvenient, but far from the end of the world.

Staff was very friendly and accommodated a last minute change for us. The room was very clean and bigger than we expected,. The rooms have a second door that opens towards the pool.

The outside needs updating. It does not reflect the clean, updated rooms. Also, it takes a VERY long time for the water to get hot, but once it does, there is plenty of hot water.

The room was super spacious, vaulted ceilings were beautiful. Super clean, housekeepers were super friendly, very respectful. Great location, front and back door to the room provided access to private hotel area with tennis/basketball court and pool. Easy check in/out. Will be our new spot when we visit for sure!!

Honestly nothing I didn't like. My wife wasn't crazy about the shower head. But super minor and did not affect our stay at all.

Parking is a breeze we took our F350 Superduty and was a little concerned about parking space but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised...the rooms are huge and very nice ...TV is larger than most hotel rooms... coffee ..refrigerator and microwave in the room...we had no problems with anything😁👍

We really couldn't think of anything we didn't like...we were there during Hurricane Lee (9/23) and they called us in advance to tell us they didn't have a generator...which was no big deal to us..so if you're looking for a place to book at the last minute I think you'll like this place😁

Everything was very good. And they staff was excellent about informing me of the new WiFi and coming to my room as soon as it was ready. The market across the street is fabulous. I recommend touting it.

As a single woman, I would have liked notice of the back door situation. It isn't really a bother, but it was a surprise.

The hotel was just what we were looking for. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly. The cleaning staff was helpful and accommodating. The rooms looked newly renovated. They were airy with high ceilings and new floors. The outside patio was lovely and the grounds and the pool were lovely as well. It was a very convenient location to the beaches, the town of Gloucester and Rockport. All attractions are easily accessible by car. There is a lovely market right across the street and a big market/plaza down the road within walking distance. The price was reasonable for the area, especially compared to other hotels.

There was a problem with the room assignments. We wanted to be next to each other but there was some confusion, so I voluntarily opted for rooms that were near and that was fine. There were some problems with the keys. One room could only be accessed by the patio door (there are 2 entrances to each room). I did not want to keep going back to the office to try to fix it, so we just worked around that. The same with the wifi. We could not get it to work and tired of trying to make it work with the offie and opted to use our hot spot when necessary. I believe if we had been persistent, the staff would have been able to accommodate us, but we just did not want to invest the time.
