We were warmly welcomed by the friendly owner of this pretty 18th century pub. Our bedrooms were comfortable and spacious, with plenty of charging points, generous bath sheets, an excellent power shower and very comfortable beds. The pub itself was traditional, historic and cosy and included a pool table and dart boards. Bring your own darts! The pub offers secure cycle storage. Our evening meal was home cooked and delicious- chosen from a varied menu of home cooked dishes including vegetarian options, offering a welcome contrast to the standard pub meals we’d had over the previous 5 days. Breakfast options included the Full English as well as smaller options which were all well prepared. We’d been cycling the Hadrian Cycle Way and Sea to Sea and this was our last stop, with a day’s cycle ahead. The Golden Lion was the discovery of the week. I recommend it 100% as a beautiful and historical pub, with very comfortable accommodation. We were impressed by the commitment and kindness of the owners who really want to ensure their clients enjoyed their stay. We had such a lovely time we’ll organise the next time we cycle the Sea to Sea so we can stay here again.

We used this accommodation whilst hiking locally on the Weardale Way footpath between Killhope and Stanhope via Rookhope Moor, which took us two days. It saved us time travelling into and out of the area and was well worth the money. The food we were served was very tasty and Tyrone and his team were very welcoming. We understand the location and accommodation is very popular with tourists (both bikers and hikers) so we were not disappointed. Make the effort to go and visit Upper Weardale as you will not be disappointed.

It ticked all the boxes for us so I don't think anything was overlooked. After all, the scenery thereabouts sells the area and the Old Coach House and Golden Lion PH provide a secure means of accommodation and a good place to eat!

An very good one night stay, the food was excellent in the bar - including breakfast.

The room was clean & tidy, but so small & cold - when we arrived the room window had been left open so was very cold and the one radiator in the bedroom struggled to get the room warmed up....... it felt chilly all night, but the bed did feel cold all night too. The TV remote only worked when stood right in front of the TV, I tried to warm the batteries but that didn't work. There was tea & coffe making facilities but there was no milk, we didn't realise until the morning. My wife went downstairs to try an get some but there was nobody about until they opened for breakfast...... we didn't realise there was a shop round the corner until we were leaving. The price was very good - but you do get what you pay for, I would try it again, but only for one night.

The location is lovely, very old 17th Coaching House surrounded by lovely walks. Food was delicious. Both the lady and gentleman that own it were very approachable and friendly.

Pub was all locked up when we arrived, after a few minutes a gentleman came out to meet us. There was a mobile number in the window to contact but we missed it. We weren't aware there were quite steep, external, stone steps to some of the rooms, again not too much of a problem but could be for some people. Although the cooked breakfast food was delicious, I was really taken back that the choice of beverages was simply tea or coffee...I don't drink either and for £10 per person I had to provide my own fresh orange. For a two night stay, again not a deal breaker but an alternative fresh juice for breakfast would have been fab.

The hosts, Tyrone & Jennifer were warm, friendly and so kind! We had been cycling the Coast 2 Coast all day and were exhausted and couldn’t wait to get to our room. I left booking kind of late and all that was left was the Bothy room, which I wasn’t sure how we’d fit. To our delight, it was the perfect size for two cyclists. It was Spartan clean with the most comfortable beds & duvets & plenty of hot water for showers. (Tyrone kindly locked our bikes in a secure garage overnight - such a peace of mind!) After a shower and a nap, we went to their pub and ate delicious, home-cooked food that literally made me do a happy dance in my seat! I’m already thinking of planning a future trip to come back (maybe hiking this time).

Honestly, I have nothing negative to say.

Myself and my daughter were undertaking the coast to coast cycle challenge. We arrived in Weardale wet and tired after a full days cycling. We were received at the coach house with a fantastic warm welcome. It was exactly what we needed. Some lovely home cooked food in the attached pub on the evening (Golden Lion) and a cooked breakfast the next morning set us up for the final leg of our challenge. The hosts were very friendly and had local information about the route, which was really helpful. If we ever pass through Weardale again we would look to see them again.

Great location right on the C2C route, secure storage for cycles & motorbikes & close to Co op, a small cafe & bus stops for local transport links. Proper boozer with Pool table & music & good selection of draught beers & lagers. Tremendous value for money in comparison to other places, highly recommended for C2C riders & a perfect place for evening festivities after a day of cycling.

We stayed for two nights whist riding the area. After a warm welcome we were shown to our accommodation which was perfect for our needs. There’s plenty of parking and we got to park right outside our room. We ate in the pub both nights and all enjoyed our meals, breakfast was lovely too. It’s one of those places that you instantly feel comfortable. Highly recommended.

Perfect location for the C2C, especially considering not a lot around that part of the route. Had bike storage too. Couple than run it were really friendly and the pub had a nice local vibe. Food and breakfast on site too. Not gourmet but decent pub food.

No wifi in the accommodation, which wasn’t actually an issue for us as 4G seemed to stretch but could have been problematic for foreign guests. There is wifi in the pub itself though

The location was perfect, just on the edge of the village and a stone’s throw from walks along the River Wear & the Weardale way. The Staff & owners could not have given a warmer welcome and been anymore attentive. Full English breakfast was a cracking way to start the day the following morning to. Great value for money.

If I was to be picky the TV was very small, but hey the view out the window was gonna be so much more addicting than what was on tv.
