Quiet, out of the way place, a bit tricky to find, nice setting with trees, creek and old mill. Staff was friendly. Bedroom was large and clean, with ample sitting space. Modern bathroom, with lots of hot water. Strong wifi throughout the building.

Breakfast classic Irish was provided (which was good) but it lacked a few things we expected to see (plain yogurt, granola or muesli). Orange juice, which we don't drink, was poured every morning before we arrived for breakfast so went to waste (presumably), coffee tasted like instant and could be improved. These are minor complaints and we did enjoy both our breakfast and overall stay.

Could not recommend this B&B more. Helen was such a fabulous host. She went the extra mile, especially when we had car troubles after check out! The B&B is the most beautiful building set in amazing gardens. We used a taxi to travel to and from our destination of Crover House Hotel. Bedroom was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast the next morning was superb. I am vegetarian so often breakfast is a let down for me, but my veggie fry was 10/10! Honestly could not recommend this place more. Looking forward to returning.

I hardly know where to begin to express our appreciation for the kindness and hospitality my sister and I received from Helen and her family at Lacken Millhouse. We received a warm welcome, helpful directions for taking the bus to Dublin, and then help again when we got off at the wrong stop, and then, on our last night, an emergency intervention for the sake of the tire I destroyed, to enable us to get to a garage in the morning. For the beautiful surroundings, the comfortable accommodations, wonderful breakfast, and the generous "automotive assistance," Lacken earns 10 stars! Many, many thanks, Helen, for your care and concern.

Such a beautiful property inside and out lovely character in keeping the mill house, the grounds are lovely and enjoyed a nice walk by the river. Aoife was so friendly and helpful when we arrived showing our room and giving an amazing recommendation for dinner in Cavan. Breakfast was lovely and everyone so friendly and polite. A great place for switching off from electronics and relaxing. Would love to come back in summer when grounds a little so we can walk further as we’re not prepared with footwear for the wet which was on us. Already passed the details to few friends. One of our top stays!

My stay at Lacken Millhouse and Gardens was fantastic. Not only was my room very comfortable but the whole house was welcoming and homely. For me, Helen went above and beyond to welcome me and look after me during my stay- I cannot express how grateful I am for her help in sorting out a taxi and the nice bit of toast the next morning before heading on my way. I will be recommending the guesthouse to any of my friends who are in that neck of the woods. Many thanks again- I will not forget your kindness.

Stayed here for a wedding in Cavan. Helen made us feel really welcome and ordered taxi’s for us which made our trip so much easier, the breakfast was really good and a quiet location. Everywhere was also super clean and tidy.

The location does make it more difficult to get around as there isn’t much nearby, hiring a car would make it easier but we didn’t stay long enough to make this worthwhile.

beautiful old mill house set in a rural location with peace and tranquility. Very relaxing listening to the crackle of logs in the log burner or the sounds of the mill steam and birds chirping. Host was warm , welcoming , helpful, and informative. rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable. If you want good old fashioned hospitality away from city hustle and bustle then this is the place to go. I loved it.

This guesthouse is a true higlight! Helen is such a lovely host and makes sure that the guests feel like at home. The breakfast was very good and definelty recommended. The location of the house is perfect to explore the nearby forest parks and many lakes. The whole house is beautifully decorated and very inviting and the garden is lovely for a little stroll or to sit outside. We loved our stay here and were very sad to leave! Definetly recommend to stay here and we hope to come back at some point! :)

Met by our host Helan with tea, cake and biscuits, now there's a start to our stay and it only got better. Room was magnificent, cozy and warm. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. Best nights sleep l had away for home. Breakfast to die for from the beautiful fresh on juice to the fresh fruit bowl, acres of brown bread and toast to an all l describe Breakfast as it took us approx hour half to complete, boasting no less that 12 items, Fit for a king with more on request. What we loved most was the friendliness and chat with Helan and her sister and no rust, take your time leaving, have a walk around, relax and come back when you want to hit the road attitude, class, we did as the grounds of the property could take a good hour to soak up the streams, forest and trails. Will definitely return and will also be telling our friend about this little gem tucked away in Co Cavan.

beautiful rural tranquil setting by the river. The room was excellent, well proportioned with a lovely view. We had the full irish breakfast the next day , great value and tasty.

Make sure to have sat nav set up . This is a rural spot , with unlight single lane roads leading to the property so do make sure you have directions set in advance.
