The hotel is tucked down a side street, two flat blocks from the Viana do Castelo train station with easy access to the heart of the city. The staff is engaging and warm, helpful with suggestions, and always present. There is a lift to all floors and on our floor, one, there was a seating area where we casually waited for friends. Nice touch. The room was spacious enough and a door opened to a lovely, shared patio space. There are black out curtains.

Nothing to not like.

Ideal location, a two-minute walk from the train station in one direction and the main square in another. Room was clean and comfortable, with modern amenities. The included breakfast was excellent and the staff kindly packed a sandwich for us when we went to the beach. We reserved a room that had a balcony with a view and were glad we did. It was delightful to sit on the balcony at the end of the day and see distant hills, as well as the Santa Luzia church that overlooks the city. We recommend the Sancho Panza restaurant in the main square, as well as the spectacular Cabedelo beach for wind surfing or just relaxing on an uncrowded, beautiful beach. In the evenings we enjoyed the International folkdance festival that happened to be hosted by the town while we were there in July.

Friendly reception & very well located. We stayed after completing our Camino Torres up to Ponte de Lima (bus ride to Viana do Castelo). The hotel kept a bag of additional clothing for us in storage - ready & waiting for our collection when we checked-in. A busy little hotel with many walkers at the time of staying there. Our room was small but comfortable with a little balcony & as advertised. The bathroom was spacious with glass walls which is a bit unusual. The breakfast was excellent with a very helpful host who also let us out of the building at 5am upon our departure, & even offered us something to eat. Note that the front door is locked if you need to leave very early. Great service with each table receiving a basket of breads, cheese & meats as well as a buffet with yoghurts, cereals, fruit, cake & beverages. It caters well for walkers & has a garage for parking too. Good value stay given the location.

Hotel Laranjeira in Viana do Castelo is in a great location, right in the historic centre of the town and near restaurants and cafes. The river front is just a short walk away. The room was comfortable and light with a nice well appointed bathroom and the bed was comfortable. Everything was lovely and clean. The breakfast was continental style with a variety of breads, cakes, cereals, cold meats, yogurt, drinks and lots of fruit. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient.

The only thing I can criticise is the lack of a grab handle to help getting in and out of the bath.

I had a lovely stay. The staff were particularly attentive. Upon check in, Ricardo at the front desk provided a map and suggestions about what to do and where to eat. The included continental breakfast was ample and varied (assorted breads, cheese, sliced meat, cereals, cake, yogurt, fruit, etc.) The staff kept the area well stocked and came around to offer refills on juice, coffee, or tea. The location is very convenient, just a couple of blocks from the train station. The rooms are simply appointed, clean, and quiet. Mine even had a nice view. I would happily stay here again.

Really friendly staff, especially at reception and the guy who ran the dining area for breakfast. . Fantastic customer service made us feel very welcome and really good attention to detail. We checked in after a long day walking the Camino and instantly felt at home. Our room was very clean and the bathroom included a bath which was great for a soak after a long walk. The hotel is on the Camino path and well located for restaurants. Breakfast was really nice, and we were offered food to take on Camino if we wanted. If walking the Portuguese Camino, this is a great place to stay.

Lovely small hotel Very convenient for bus/rail services, cathedral, shops and sight seeing - also on the Camino - we stayed for 4 nights over Easter for Camino and bad weather respite. Staff all very nice, professional and friendly/helpful - a special thanks to dining room staff who were extremely thoughtful and friendly - gave us bread rolls and fruit for our walk when we left - we were very grateful for this as there were no cafes for 18kms. The cleaning staff were also very nice and accommodating An indication of good management is how happy the staff are - everybody we met was so cheerful and obviously happy at work

There was nothing that we didn’t like

The hotel was very clean and the staff were so helpful and kind. The breakfast was excellent and they even gave us take away bags for our lunch on the walk (the Camino).

The pillows were very uncomfortable. And which hotel designer decided that glass doors and walls to the bathroom were a good idea? Even if you didn’t mind not having privacy on the toilet or in the shower, when the other person had to go to the bathroom at night the light went on and woke up the other person 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

This is a really nice hotel in the heart of Viana do Castelo and most importantly right on the Camino. The room was comfortable and we had a lovely balcony overlooking the city. The staff were incredible: made me feel so welcome and the breakfast in the morning, which was included, was excellent. Thanks Eduardo, you were very friendly! They even provided foil so I could wrap a roll with cheese and ham to take on my walk. The room had air conditioning, which was very much appreciated and has been a rare commodity on this trip.

A small bathroom with a very small shower, but that is pretty consistent with other hotels on this Camino experience.

This hotel was absolutely perfect, we arrived hot and bothered after a long day on the Camino. The location is perfect, beautifully clean and staff literally couldn’t help us more. In fact I think they have spoiled me. They opened breakfast an hour early so we could start our walk early, then brought out foil and bags and helped us to pack a picnic to have on our walk. The kindness and attention to us was incredible, thank you all.
