This is a beautiful hotel, I loved everything about it, both inside and outside. Great location, walk up to coffee shop. Staff helpful. Very quiet hotel. Loved the furnishings. Loved the common areas and fireplaces. I am terminally ill and was a bit worried about the steps from previous guest reviews where they mention the steps being difficult. It was only the one flight I had to climb and I had no trouble with getting up with the help of the bannister.

Lovely hotel with lots of character. Great location. Very clean. Dinner in restaurant was superb food delicious but a bit pricey to eat there more than once. If you can afford it the food is fabulous. Young wait staff were delightful and very professional Room very comfortable A lovely gentleman carried our bags to our room much appreciated. We would definately recommend and return to this hotel.

The worst pillows. i got a poor night sleep due to a sore neck from pillows being too high and too firm. Cant sink your head into the pillow. Ended up using a folded towel from bathroom to sleep on to relieve my neck. Despite plenty of pillows in room no options for a lower softer pillow. Need to provide some pillow options. If lack of comfortable pillow didnt occur would have been a perfect stay. Couldnt contact reception to see whether i could get a different pillow as it was middle of the night when i woke up with sore neck. Next time i will bring my own as we did enjoy our stay and thought it was a lovely hotel with character

We stayed at the Heritage, which is about a 1/2 mile from the train station. The train from Sydney was super easy and inexpensive, and takes a couple hours. If you don't have much luggage the Heritage is walkable from the station, but uphill a third of the way. You CANNOT beat the view from the Heritage! It's a quirky, quaint, very old hotel. Be aware that there is no elevator and stairs everywhere. Check in advance if you have mobility issues. There is a lovely bar and spacious restaurant, both quite nice with a balcony. There is a separate building with a workout area, pool table, and ping pong, which is fun. It has nice sized pool, but no lounging area. To enjoy the surrounding sights we bought the Hop On/Off bus tickets which is a great option even if you have a car. The stop is near the train station a 1/2 mile away, so save some strength to walk back. The bus is an hour at each location, which was enough to see and walk that particular sight. LOTS of trails. Be warned that the "easy" "medium" "difficult" rating for the trails should be more like "medium" "difficult" "bring a rope". Lots of stairs. There are some paved trails, but most are dirt, with tree roots, rough hewn steps, and steep drop-offs. Trying to hike the trails with children would be nerve wreaking. These are the "easy" trails. But the views are amazing! It's a stunning area. We hoped to see koalas, but we asked our bus tour guide and he'd lived in the area 30 years and never seen one! Rats! So we stopped looking up so much! We saw lots of birds--white cockatoos, kookaburra, magpies, even black cockatoos. The weather was good most of the time, which was lucky for us. The day we left back to Sydney it was so foggy we could have been anywhere. I guess that happens quite a bit, so keep an eye on the weather before you go.

A shuttle to the train station would be nice. Prepare to lug your luggage up stairs.

The building itself is stunning. The room was immaculate and super comfy. We were staying as we were participating in UTA and it was a great help to have the room early so we could sort our gear out. Staff were amazing, very understanding and helpful.

The only issue was the piano the night before. After flying in from Perth and NZ, we were both sleep deprived and hoping for an early night as we had to get up very early for the start of the race. Our room was unfortunately just at the top of the stairs of the bar area and the piano was very loud in our room. Staff eventually found ear plugs and that helped. Next time, I would request a room far away from this area.

Booked this as a last minute option for two adults and one late teen and found it very good and reasonably priced (SUN night). The key things are good: location / facilities / service. Didn't get to see the other rooms but would stay there again. We had a super spacious tower suite with large, comfy bed and two sofa beds so plenty of beds for 3 and plenty of floor space. Bathroom with spa, gas fire and good tv were appreciated. Weather was pretty rainy and foggy so didn't get the best of the views but they must be spectacular given the location perched on the hill and the different glimpses at times were still lovely esp with autumn leaves on show. Location is very good and quiet - just 1 min to main road in Katoomba by car or you could walk in better weather. Staff were friendly and helpful and genuine. There is a large downstairs lounge/bar area facing the view, with open fires and a supply of games, as well as a restaurant, it's an asset a lot of other places don't have. We ate out for dinner but had predinner and post dinner drinks (plus a game of scrabble) and really appreciated not being stuck in our room the entire time.

The hotel is looking a little tired in spots and could do with a visual makeover. Some Victorian style furnishings mixed with later ones that look odd, lounge area could do with some cushions on seating. There are worn edges on some furniture, somewhat dated bathrooms, etc. It was clean, if quirky, and not unattractive, just could do with a more cohesive approach to design, a little investment in selected updates in key areas. It could easily be a bit smarter without necessarily spending huge amounts of money. But it's perfectly serviceable as is, just does feel like an older country hotel, with the potential to be considerably better.

The warm airconditioning, comfortable bed, comfy bed linen, cleanliness, decor was upmarket, sun through the windows in the morning, views of the surrounding easterly direction, Leura in the distance, township, the escarpents and cliffs to the south-east, the wonderful sunrise. Easy to fill bath, instant hot water, delightful shower. The restaurant for dinner and breakfast. The delicious food. Friendly, efficient staff. The olde world charm and decor. Overall ambience.

Perhaps there was a problem in the kitchen on Sunday night. The entree and mains took hours to deliver. We weren't in a hurry, and the food was delicious and staff were great, it just took too long for all of the customers to get their meals.

We had a lovely stay at this charming hotel last weekend with family. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and helpful — especially Nigel at reception, who was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The room was cozy, clean, and beautifully styled in a classic vintage aesthetic, with a super comfortable bed and elegant touches like a wooden fireplace and floral curtains. It felt like a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. The grounds and exterior of the building are equally charming, with a picturesque garden and traditional architecture that gives the place a nostalgic, homely feel. The whole atmosphere was calm and inviting — perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. Highly recommend for families or couples looking for a quiet escape with friendly service and a good vibe.

This hotel really grew on me. Staff were lovely and helpful. Great location with easy parking. On site restaurant was great although dont eat too late - chef stops cooking at 9pm, not so great if you were looking forward to a dessert. Room was comfortable and clean with lovely view - great for a quiet nights sleep. Some really interesting memorabilia around the hotel. Yes its generally quiet - but this suited us. Lovely for pre and after dinner drinks

There were only 2 old wooden sunbeds to use around the pool, meaning people were just sitting on towels - and few comfortable sunbeds would have been very welcome

My mum and I had a lovely 1 night stay in a Mountain View Room including breakfast. The hotel is in a great location on a hill on the outskirts of Katoomba and about a 10-15 minute easy walk into the town. I’m glad we paid for a room with a view although it’s probably not necessary as you get great views from the restaurant and bars. The pool looked lovely although we didn’t end up using it as the weather wasn’t quite warm enough. The bar area is nice and comfy and an added bonus that they have quite a few board games available for guests to use. The included breakfast was good; you get choice of 1 main from menu plus can use the buffet with toast, pastries, cereal, juice and tea/coffee. Note if you want a barista made coffee you have to pay extra which isn’t really made clear. If we stayed again I think we would just go for the a la carte menu as they had different options (like granola) which isn’t on the other menu. The reception staff were very welcoming helping to carry my Mums bag up the stairs and ringing us once we were in the room checking we had settled in ok. The only downside was service at breakfast. The waiter took our order at the same time as another couple and they had finished theirs before our had even arrived. When we followed up the waiter did apologise but had to recheck our order and rush it through. The same for the coffee and they got the order wrong the first time. Overall though this is a lovely hotel and it’s great that they have kept the historic feel with modern touches so we would definitely stay again.

We chose one of the villa rooms that were slightly separate from the main hotel. The room was excellent and very spacious - we are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children) and it suited us perfectly. The location was great and the views amazing. There is a swimming pool which the children loved and on Saturday evening there was a live pianist in the bar area who was excellent.

The wait for breakfast was quite long which is challenging with young children especially as were not advised in advance that there would be a wait. I think next time we might choose to go out locally to get breakfast.
