It’s an old favorite. I’ve been staying there for over 50 years so the memories are so strong. I think the decor is mostly still in keeping with the old style which is lovely
The bathroom was a bit too dated however. Also odd service in the dining room with weird rules that had me thinking of Fawlty Towers. The restaurant staff were too young for that reference which made it all seem more ridiculous. Good food though if a bit try hard and pretentious.

The view and charm of the Hydro Majestic is next level. The atmosphere and furnishings in the Belgravia Lounge were high class.
I felt the shower floor and grout could have been cleaner. Except when we were checking out we always had to wait for something eg, our table, to check in, to get bar service. Also we were provided with no detail of the food in the high tea. The high tea was lovely but it could have been enhanced if there was a print out menu - knowing what you are eating significantly enhances the experience. One of the bar staff was less than helpful when my partner ask what kind of beer do you have. The response was an irritated wave at the bottles in the fridge behind the bar - but the reflection of the light in the glass made it hard to see. A simple listing of the beers available would have been nicer.

The duty manager, Marcus, greeted us warmly and he was courteous and professional. We had a free upgrade to a mountain view room which, despite the rainy and misty weather which caused low visibility outside the window for the majority of the time, was very much appreciated. The hotel itself was really magnificent and the buffet breakfast had a good selection of food that we enjoyed. Overall we had an enjoyable stay. In terms of nearby activities, Katoomba and Leura are both worth a visit and only a short drive away. A day trip to Bathurst and Lithgow is also doable. BTW if you want to learn more about HM's history, get to the main foyer at 1pm to have a tour of the hotel building!
Nothing. We had a package deal for the room plus buffet breakfast and the price was good. The only downside is the small size of the mountain view room but the great view of the mountains, valleys and magnificent sunset made up for it.

The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the incredible staff, with special recognition to Marcus, who ensured that our experience was nothing short of exceptional from start to finish. His dedication to delivering five-star service truly made our stay unforgettable. We were consistently impressed his professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care whether it was with the room, the restaurant, breakfast, or our activities. We even had some greetings in french and tailored advice on hikes. Mahesh also deserves a special mention for his warmth and constant availability. At every interaction, he went above and beyond to accommodate our requests, always with kindness and a smile. Our room was absolutely stunning, with an incredible view that made our stay even more magical. Our dining experiences, both at the restaurant and during breakfast, were not only memorable for the delicious food but also because of the attentive and caring staff who elevated every moment. While we are tempted to explore other hotels in the area, we know we’ll be returning to the Hydro Majestic—because the exceptional customer experience and the people who made it happen are what truly set it apart.
The only little thing we could mention is that the bathroom and the room in general are lacking storage and areas to place our personal belongings.

The views, the food, the history, the service and the atmosphere were all tops. The bed was also comfy
It did advertise here that there is cable tv which says to me subscription services. At the end of the evening after exhausting all the lovely facilities we retired to our room to relax with a movie before bed, however there was only free to air tv. Don't advertise it as cable if it's not subscription. It think it's just standard now to have subscription services particularly for high class. Also no top sheet on beds. It annoys me that you only have a choice of being really warm with the quilt or nothing at all. I like the option of a top sheet to be that in between and not the full quilt

We stayed in room 502. The lighting was so poor in their fit out. Being an ex interior designer, certain things bothers me immensely. The chandelier like main light should have dimmer so that if one wants to have better light, one could ajust it. The cupboard was well presented but not enough light. They need to have lighting in the cupboard or on the ceiling in front of cupboard. I had to put mobile light in order to make a cup of tea in the evening. I hope they could improve some of the facilities. As I have been staying here for last 30 years.

The building is amazing , The staff are amazing. My story starts with a very comfortable valley view room, only due to the heritage nature there is no lifts. Therefore my wife who has been battling health issues struggled with the stairs. Mahesh the concierge quickly jumped into action finding an alternative ground floor room that happened to be room 502 ,the only balcony room @ The Hydro. Majestic.I offered to pay for the obvious upgrade but Mahesh insisted that it was on the house ,tAlso a mention to Glenda from housekeeping, she expedited our transfer and made it a priority to get the room ready for us . Thank you . Mahesh ,Glenda. & Management.....

Staying here has been a bucket list item since I last stayed for a school camp in 1982!! That was in a dingy bunk room downstairs, so I always wanted to stay in a lovely room with a view over the valley. It has only taken me 42 years to do it! Our room was lovely and clean and comfortable and had a little balcony to enjoy the views and watch the sunset from. The Hydro is full of history and has been beautifully renovated. The staff at check in are warm and friendly. A fantastic night in a grand old hotel.
My only feedback is that there was only one chair and a table on the balcony, so we couldn’t sit out there together to enjoy the sunset. Bit of a shame.

The staff at the reception was very welcoming. I was met with Mr Aruna who checked us in in no time, escorted us to our room and explained to us about hotel amenities and the history of the hotel. The room was nice, good bed with private ensuite. The hotel itself is majestic as it name is. Lush colonial style decor which gives us a feel of the hotel in is olden prime days. The views were superb. Short distance to Katoomba town centre and surrounding attractions. The Pavillion Restaurant was great. We arrived at 8pm for a dinner and the Chef was very accommodative as their last order was 8pm. Chef recommended some nice food choices and drinks. Overall, a very pleasant stay. Stayed there for 2 nights. Will definitely choose to stay here again.
Nothing in particular. Surrounding roads are undergoing upgrades but once completed, access will be much better.

Views from our room were stunning , breakfast , high tea and dinner at the Wintergarden was exceptional compliments to the chef, very friendly and helpful staff (Douglass served us at hightea and dinner and he was friendly , courteous and an asset to your team)and the views again just spectacular, enjoyed a game of tennis on what must be the most scenic tennis court ever.
No fault of the hotel , but all the construction out the front made it difficult to cross the busy highway to the train station and can imagine if you had a room on that side you would be a little disappointed as there was no mention of it when I'd made the booking but our room faced the mountains so wasn't an issue ,
