The pub is just off the A1 in a quiet village and it had a lovely ambience. We had some very tasty fish and chips for dinner. The room was spacious and well appointed (although no decaff options for tea/coffee). We can't comment on the Yorkshire cooked breakfast as 10 mins before we were due to go downstairs for it we received a text to say that unfortunately the chef had had to go to A&E and no one else was available to cover. Not being able to find any staff on site, we let ourselves out and found an alternative option elsewhere. So far there has been no offer of a refund, but this is probably understandable under the circumstances. The lack of breakfast is why we have sadly not been able to give full marks.
Minor point but a decaff options for tea/coffee would have been appreciated.

Comfortable room, comfy bed and good shower. We stayed in room 3 which had a sofa and is not directly above the bar so there was no noise. Access to Netflix and other streaming apps. Well marked car park with plenty of spaces. Good breakfast, - the "Full English" was a particularly good portion, we also had beautifully cooked eggs on toast. There's also a choice of cereals, jams and fruit juices. We had three very good evening meals here and the ladies serving were good fun.
We stayed for four nights so could have done with a chest of drawers in the room. We spoke with the new landlady who made a note. Could do with a couple of hooks on the back of the bathroom door. Coffee wasn't great.

We stayed here as a half way point on our journey home from Scotland. It was super convenient, located just off the A1. We were greeted by Emma who showed us to our room which was one of 3. The room was spacious, very clean and nicely decorated. We ate dinner in the pub which was lovely, despite the disappointment that a few dishes weren’t available. We had filled in a preference sheet for breakfast and this was waiting for us when we came down the next morning and was delicious. This is a community run place and the people involved should be proud of what they have achieved.

We stayed at the Exelby Green Dragon for one night as a stopover between Inverness and Norfolk. Our King deluxe room was very clean and was lovely and cosy. It was furnished with some nice furniture and soft furnishings. We were amazed how quiet it was even with a bar full of customers below. The shower room was lovely and clean and the shower was hot. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Not a dislike but we will just check if the pub is serving the full menu on the night of our stay, next time. We didn't realise that on the Tuesday we stayed it was a one pot menu, in our case steak baguette with fries, with a pint for a bargain £15. It just so happens I'd eyed up a dish on the menu I fancied but I did really enjoy my one pot meal.

Lovely bustling pub ina quiet village. Plenty of parking. Very nice room, with space to move, good shower. Nice decor and bedlinens. Supper was good value from a wide menu of upscale pub favourites. Breakfast was delicious, with very friendly staff. Great overnight stop.
The blind in the bedroom was broken, and the bed needed a new mattress. We came down earlier than planned to breakfast and found it hard to find anyone. A bell, maybe?

Chose this as a handy dog-friendly stop over for the night, just off the A1 and a couple of miles from Bedale, wish we could have stayed longer. A really lovely pub that is community owned and is was a very cosy place, decorated for Christmas. There was warm and welcoming service from the very friendly staff. The locals were great and kept us entertained with some very funny stories. We enjoyed the food and there was a really good range of local beers and other drinks. Our room was very spacious with nice decor. I loved the joke book! I would definitely come back here and explore more of the local area.
Loved it all! Ticked all the boxes. Only thing I can think of was the orange juice for breakfast was more like a squash but wasn't really bothered as the whole stay was good value for money.

Smooth check-in with friendly staff. The pub was clean and well maintained. Evening menu suited our needs after a long day. Bedroom was clean and tidy. Local outside temperature was around 3 degrees so asked if the room temperature could be tweeked and it was. Breakfast was plentiful and hot. One fact we discovered was it was a "Community" owned pub! A great credit to the locals who have made it work!
The stairs to the bedrooms are a little steep and I would say "Could be" difficult for OAP's. One frustrating point for us was that "We" could not get the "Basic" TV stations like BBC/ITV for news/weather. This could be "Finger trouble" on our behalf. But there are plenty of extra options like Netflic and ITV-X.

From the first impressions to leaving after breakfast the next morning,we had a really good experience. All staff were really friendly, helpful and professional with a natural warmth. The selection of drinks went down very well! Both the evening meal and breakfast were spot on and we had a lovely room at a great offer price.Highly recommend - just wish we lived closer! Fantastic little find and how all places should be run.
Not a dislike but more little suggestions 🙂We would have welcomed being able to adjust the heat in the room as it was set for toastiness but got too warm at night after a belly full of the yummy food 🙃We would have also liked slightly bigger towels but both are based on personal preference and certainly did not detract from a fabulous, very much enjoyed stay 🫶

The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and tidy. It was quiet at night. Delicious food both in the evening and a tasty full English breakfast. Very generous portions particularly of the whitebait and the lasagne. Lovely outdoor beer garden and proper beers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It would have been good to have some shower gel in the shower. Also a couple of mugs for tea rather than just coffee cups. But these are only suggestions.

The food ( we had lunch, evening meal and breakfast) was excellent throughput. Everything was good quality product and was cooked so well. The blt I had for lunch was the vest I've ever had, and the twice fried chips were out of this world! The room was very comfortable, cosy , clean and well equipped. Probably the best part of the stay, though, wre the staff. They were all friendly, helpful and made us feel really welcome throughout the stay. It's a place we will remember very fondly and will return to when we're in the area. Excellent all round and highly recommended!
