This was our 4th stay at this friendly hotel. There's plenty of parking in the public car parks outside the hotel, which have an honesty box for payment. The room was fantastic as always, a nice size twin room, which are a bit larger than the double rooms, cosy and warm with an en suite bathroom with a huge separate shower and also a bath. Good supply of teas, coffees and biscuits replenished daily, fresh milk supplied by the hotel if you take them the container supplied to you. TV on the wall and a radiator you can control yourself so you can have the room as warm as you like. Great choice at breakfast and all served by the dream team the lovely Gaye and Chris and Jo the lovely hotel manager! Lots of stuff to do in the locality, loads of walks, Druid's Temple, Fountain's Abbey and Ripon and it's cathedral, 2 breweries in Masham to visit and multiple pubs, as well as Lightwater Valley not far away!

Only thing we didn't like was the WiFi router on the ceiling beam, lit up the whole room during the night, flickering and disturbing sleep!

Absolutely superb breakfast with a huge menu selection. Unlimited tea or coffee and staff that couldn't be more helpful. Dinner (not included) equally offered great choice & quality - very popular so you may need to book - and of course a selection of great beers. Nice bathroom which included both a bath and a separate shower cubicle with plenty of hot water. Ample free and easy parking in the center of Masham making the location ideal.

Remarkably neither the room or bathroom provided a single draw or cupboard - just 4 coat hangers! Not a big issue if only staying for one or two nights and you can't be bothered to unpack your case but likely to be annoying if staying longer

Second visit after 4 years. Just as warm a welcome & just as comfortable a room as when we were here just after Covid. Friendly staff, clean bathroom, great shower and decent towels, good sized room (if in need of a little tlc), welcome chocolates and regular top-ups of coffees, biscuits and milk. Breakfast choice was impressive and Gaye & Chris served food and drinks efficiently as well as with a good dose of northern humour. The evening menu is also extensive with a few vegetarian choices included. The hotel is dog-friendly but eating spaces and rooms are clearly demarcated. Wifi is free. Richmond, Rippon and Fountains Abbey are a short drive away, and Masham is a great base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.

Nothing - only having to leave.

The room was very comfortable with everything we needed. The location was great.

We were told that there was a shooting party at the property and we wouldn’t be able to get a table because they took up so much room. We drove to neighbouring village to another pub (we couldn’t get in anywhere in the village) and when we got back there was lots of room in the bar and restaurant. Another couple were also told the same thing. It was annoying that we were guests but couldn’t get a table for dinner. A shower cap would have been useful as we couldn’t use the shower without wetting your hair (the head was directly above where you stand).

We had a dog with us so the room was perfectly situated at the bottom so we didn't have to walk all through the pub with our dog who gets anxious. Sofa bed was in perfect position for our toddler so we could still watch telle whilst be slept cause the light from it didn't reflect on him. Staff were absolutely lovely and very accommodating to my little family, food was delicious and location was fantastic such a cute town with a local park by the river I'm walking distance from our hotel and lovely local shops including a great fossil shop right on our doorstep

Nothing it was great

The porridge was very good, served hot. The fresh fruit would be better as a fruit salad as no one wants to peel oranges. Bananas good but apples and pears l would wash before cutting up so would not bother with those. Our room was very nice, two storeys. Bedroom lighting abit dim and pillows quite hard are the only negatives. Dinner was good, all hot food was served hot and came quite quickly. The fire in the lounge was much appreciated during our January visit.

Parts of the building especially outside area at the rear look abit neglected. The wooden planters attached to bench seating all seen better days as did collapsing barrel plant pot near room 22. We visited last Spring with the family and a ripped seating cushion on the bank seating by the window in the dining room is still there thiis year. I felt a lick of fresh paint is needed in various areas. The entrance ‘doormat’ needs renewing. Below the coffee machine in the dining room the cupboard and carpet are damaged which detracts from the otherwise attractive decor. The Kings Head is a great place, we have stayed many times in the past forty odd years since our children were toddlers. I hope the owners will think it worth investing in with abit of TLC.

This was our second stay. It has to be one of the most welcoming places we have ever stayed. All the staff are lovely. Chris and Gaye are proper characters who have a unique banter with customers. They really make your morning and ensure you have everything you need. We stayed in room 4, overlooking the market square. The room was lovely and cosy. Everything you need. There are plenty of hot drink options, with the bonus of getting fresh milk if required. The bed was comfy and cosy. We ate in the restaurant both nights, and the meals were great. Breakfast was delicious, too. We were staying to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were given a card from the team. Thanks to Sophie for sorting and for being so welcoming. We will be back next year, hopefully. Thank you x

Having to leave!

A beautiful location, cosy pub and excellent food

We pretty much liked everything. One or two little things to raise- Staying with dogs in an upstairs room was a bit challenging. I had asked to confirm a ground floor room with a door to outside for letting the dogs out in the night if they needed to. A bit difficult having breakfast in the pub area when everything is laid out in the dining room, as we had 2 small dogs with us. The people next to us didn’t even know they were there and we felt we should have been welcome in the dining area for breakfast. We didn’t mind it in-the evening for dinner as it was busy and had a nice fire.

Warm and friendly welcome. They accommodated us for an earlier evening meal. We had a double room in the courtyard. All was very peaceful, except for the fire alarm going off in the early hours, forcing everyone to vacate their rooms. All adds to the memories and at least it was nothing to worry about, in the end. Evening meal was lovely, good portion size, with a good selection of vegetables. Yummy puds!! Drinks reasonably priced. Light hearted, in a professional way. Went out of their way to ask about allergies and listened carefully to any issues. Bed was comfortable. Staff attentive and helpful. Throughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

A couple of gripes but only minor ones.... Thick dust webs with dog hair under bathroom and bedroom radiators. Not good for other guests if they have allergies to animals. As a former house keeper in the past. It was the 1st thing I noticed!! On and Off smell of drains in the bathroom but that may have been due to the previous storm Ashley and ground water.

The hotel is situated in the market square. It's ideally located and very well presented. The hotel staff were very friendly, chatty and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast and our evening meals were top class and good value. Our room was in an outside annexe which meant we were able to avoid any noise from the main building.

We stayed in room 16, an outside annexe. The room was a great size and well appointed. The only negative were the very creaky floorboards and we could clearly hear the occupants of room 17 next door moving about. I'm sure they could hear us.
