The welcome when we arrived was good, the room on the top floor was accessed up 2 flights of stairs, there is no lift, the view out of the bedroom by the river and out to the hills in the distance was very pleasant. The facilities in the bedroom were good, The breakfast was served in the restaurant on the first floor or we could have had it on the ground floor after 09:00 so quite a choice. The cooked breakfast we had was superb and very large cooked and served by Jack and Sean who were a real credit to the hotel their attention to our needs could not be faulted and enhanced our dining experience.
As we stayed only the one night everything was fine thank youn

Really friendly staff, I'd called ahead to ask if I could possibly have a shower chair...I was assured something would be in place...which it was...the bed was firm but really comfy...the bedding felt really good...smashing shower...lovely breakfast...I had a small birchwood breakfast first morning and the best french toast the 2nd morning...it's a young pub..we stayed in both nights and enjoyed the people watching...what a friendly community. A great couple of days... Thanks to Robbie and staff...
There was no lift...which I'd read and I hadn't requested a lower floor so it was my own fault we were given a 2nd floor room...I'm sure if I'd have asked we could have been moved but decided just to treat it as physio...SO remember if you have mobility issues keep this in mind..

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, without exception. They deserve a special mention for making our stay so pleasant. The outside area beside the river was great for a coffee or drink after a day's sight-seeing. Hotel beds were very comfortable and rooms were well laid out and modern. But the best thing about the Birchtrees is the excellent 'pub grub' in their wee restaurant. The best steak pie and handcut chips, great burger delicious fish and chips...definitely in itself a reason to return!
The rooms were very warm at night and there was quite heavy traffic from early morning, so earplugs were needed when we opened the windows. This was the only issue we had. Otherwise a very nice stay.

The room was clean and warm, with all the necessary facilities, and the bed was comfortable. Despite being over a busy pub there was no noise. The large cooked breakfast was delicious. Although no dedicated parking, it was easy to find a convenient on-street parking place.
The shower cabinet and wash-hand basin were in the room itself rather than within the en-suite. There was also no hand towel provided (just a bath towel). The milk in the coffee machine at breakfast was curdled but there was fresh milk available.

The property was a great location to explore Dumfries & Galloway. The bar area was lovely and the beer garden looking over the river was beautiful. There is a free car park directly across the road as well as shops close by.
The hotel doesn’t have aircon and the fans provided are very poor. My initial room was too hot to stay in (especially with a dog) but the manager was able to locate another room which had more windows and was bigger, so a bit cooler & more comfortable.

The room was newly decorated (as the rest of the hotel), spotlessly clean, and was spacious to accommodate two beds, and the best 'en-suite' arrangement I've ever seen. Separate toilet cubicle, and fully enclosed walk-in shower, with wash basin between them. We rarely eat in hotels, but on this occasion we did and the food was exceptionally good. The chef, Ewan, also gave us the best breakfast we could hope for. Locally sourced produce, perfectly cooked.
The only thing that could make this place better would be the installation of a water filter, at least in the bar and kitchen. Filtered water in the room would be an added attraction, as the town-water is not drinkable.

The property is very clean and modern throughout, love the Neon signs. Clean outside. Great rooms very big, fantastic bath in room for a romantic stay or a up lifting solo night. Room was clean, decorated to a high standard even if there was some noticeable improvements to some painted walls in the corridors up the stairs, it did not effect how we felt about the property, we loved how each room is named after historic places in and around Dalbeattie. Great big TV, when windows were shut up couldn’t hear a thing but we loved having ours open to hear the river and the quietness off the street. Great WiFi, staff were amazing, helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included and my gosh it was incredible. Extremely dog friendly which is a plus, I would 100% recommend to anyone and we would stay again!
Our only thing, it’s not that we didn’t like it but everyone is different.. the bed (very clean, very tidy) was just that bit too big for us, which some couples would love…

Comfy beds and quit area for a good night's sleep. The bar and the restaurant are nice and tidy, looking over to Urr Water, which was beautiful. The location is A+!
The room arrangement wasn't ideal, as there was no light in front above the wash hand basin for the mirror. It was cold, and the room couldn't really warm up overnight. The second night was better though. The restaurant wasn't really clean, cutlery wasn't washed properly, but it's just a minor issue.

This hotel was great. Spotlessly clean, room was very spacious, lovely decor and furniture. The pub downstairs is really nice too, very cozy and welcoming. The manager was fab, always ready to help in any way he can. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. This is listed as a 3* hotel but it's easily a 4*. Ive stayed in many 4* hotels that aren't as good as this one.
The stairs and corridors, bit dark and creepy. A lift would finish this hotel perfectly, that's the only negative I have everything else was super.
