Lovely period building, opposite the beach in a very quiet cove, very welcoming to humans and dogs. Personal service, showed us to our room and where everything was for our stay. Liked the night light in the bathroom, all hotels should have these. Loved listening to the waves crashing on the shore, it was very tranquil.

It was dimly lite, you had to sit near a window to read the menu and turn all the lights on in the room to see anything. This showed up how dirty the glass lamp shade was. The roads leading to the cove could be a bit tricky, I like driving, don’t do it if you’re a nervous driver.

Hope Cove is a stunning hidden gem that we never would have found if not for Hope & Anchor. The hotel was wonderful and the location was absolutely stunning. The staff were great helps in recommending the best local stuff and we loved every second of our stay. We can't wait to come back one day!

The only problem with the hotel is the parking. You must park in a paid car park next door which is reportedly very aggressive with handing out fines. Mobile signal is poor in the area so booking parking online is hard to do at the time of arrival, and other reviews (of the car park) say many people have received fines even with tickets displayed in their windows.

Fabulous! We loved everything about our stay at the Hope and Anchor. Stylish room, exceptionally comfy beds, modern facilities including air con in room, great location, great food, great atmosphere and wonderful staff. The team as a whole were spot on and individually went above and beyond.

It’s a shame the hotel doesn’t have parking or a rate for the car park. It was a little irritating that we had to (and remember to) update our daily fee via Ringo - which although was best value it meant you paid for time not there if you decide to drive out for the day. There no phone signal, but we were happy with that. Hotel WiFi was fine.

Beautiful location, a stone’s throw from the 2 small but beautiful beaches. On the coastal path so fab walks in all directions. Bed, bedding and towels really good quality and comfortable. Great breakfasts. Great having small fridge in room and provision of milk daily (not in tiny tubs!).

Room 5 was a bit small for a 5 day stay - king size bed took up most of room and also extremely hot at times. Couldn’t really pass each other easily in the room. Even with radiator off and window open there was still heat coming up through floor. No shelf space in bathroom to put toiletries other than edge of sink.

Pretty old inn in a good location on the South Devon coast. Staff were friendly and helpful. Despite being an old building the bedroom was up to date and well decorated with a Nespresso coffee machine with plenty of capsules including decaf. There was a glass jug of milk in the fridge in the room. The toiletries in the bathroom were good quality. The food was good and there was a very good choice of draft real ale as well as bottles of an excellent low alcohol beer (Proper Job 0.5%)

Soundproofing could be better. We could hear snoring from next door. We thought that parking was included but it was £10 a day at the adjacent beach car park. The Friday night was very busy which resulted in a number of minor issues: Booked table not free so offered another table. This was in a very dark position making reading the menu difficult. Several items on the menu had run out which unfortunately were the meals we would have chosen. The glass of wine that I ordered failed to arrive. Narrow lanes to get to the pub.

The location

Only parking was a pay and display car park where the pay machine did not work properly meaning you had to pay for more hours than needed. We paid on line however the phone signal is very poor and took about 20 to find a strong enough signal to get a connection. Also it stated the overnight cost was £5, the system would not accept this and had to pay £10 for 24 hours which was the only option offered even though the car was only there overnight. There is no way of contacting the car park owners either. Speaking to staff everyone has the same problem! So be prepared!

I visited during the off-season and took advantage of a discount, so I was very happy with the price-quality ratio. I stayed in the most basic room, and it was clearly renovated no more than a few years ago: very cosy, yet modern. It was also very warm (which can be an issue in the UK) and had an AC for the hotter months. You could see and hear the sea, which was wonderful to fall asleep to. The breakfast was great and so were the dinners in the downstairs restaurant. Perfect for when you're too tired to go out after an outdoorsy day. I would have preferred a few more fresh fruit and veg options at both mealtimes, but otherwise is was all good. There's a large car park just outside the hotel, which was perfect. (It is, however, a bit capricious - have coins in hand or pre-pay online on RinGo, since there's no cell signal!).

The hotel is very dog-friendly. Perhaps too dog-friendly for my taste. As much as I love dogs, some owners, unfortunately, do not bother to train them. I had dogs trying to jump on my table more than once, and there's quite a lot of barking at all hours. Realistically, this is a relatively small issue and despite some unpleasant encounters I had a great time.

Amazingly relaxing location with easy parking in the public car park next door. We were on the top floor in one of the quiet dog friendly rooms which had lovely views out across the beach and sea (great to watch the waves and grumbly weather). The room was great with nice big comfy bed. Great views from the restaurant and terrace for meals, coffees and just winding the day away. Loved the dog crate which was crammed full of dog treats and dog beer (who knew that was a thing). Also a good sized bathroom and amazing walk in shower. Very helpful and friendly staff too.

Unfortunately our room had a broken TV and one of the bedside lamps was also broken.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was cute, clean, and well facilitated. We had a great view of the beach and sea. The staff left a 'Happy Anniversary' card in the room for us with a small, wrapped fridge magnet present, which was very kind and appreciated.

There was no hair dryer in our room despite one being advertised. Thr lamp on the desk did not work. The food menu was decent but lacked any options for children. Also, the food itself was incredibly expensive.£19 for a burger and small side of fries. For that price, I would expect a side salad and some onion rings, at least? The 8oz Serloin Steak was £30 and came with the meat, chips, a small rocket salad with peppers, and half a tomato. For £30 I would have expected some mushrooms, peas, and again, maybe some onion rings, etc? Peppercorn sauce was £4 extra, which we weren't told until we were given the bill. For a £30 meal, the peppercorn should be included. The food was delicious, but not worth the price.

Thought it was mixed, poor choice of fresh fruit, tea was luke warm, eggs were ok on day 1

See above re breakfast and poached eggs on day2 were like hard boiled eggs. Spent over £200 on 2 nights of meals and drinks however choice was very poor on Friday eg no fish dish and asked to be moved to warmer spot. On Saturday service poor; had to ask for starters to be cleared and mains were left too long under heat lamps before we received them - choice better on Sat. We know you can and should do better than that even if it is the end of a busy period ; there were still customers around.
