Well renovated old building in the heart of beautiful Guimaraes. Very near the bus station, Plazas, supermarkets, the Castle and the Palace. It has an elevator for the upper floors that made it easy for seniors like us. Mariana and Carlos were very courteous and helpful with information on the places to visit and the places to eat. Mariana's recommendation on local eateries for native food were excellent. Special mention must be made of the breakfast. Plenty to eat , large variety and excellent service by the lady in the breakfast room. We really enjoyed our stay at Guimaraes!

Everything was good.

Great location, within walking distance of most points of interest to tourists, including bus station but surprisingly quiet. Charming 100-year old villa that has renovated bathrooms and A/C, well-maintained and squeaky clean. There is a lovely garden courtyard with seating to enjoy the occasional good weather and a Nespresso machine available at all times. Decent breakfast buffet with eggs cooked on request. Cheerful staff, eager to assist and provide good suggestions. All in all, brilliant value for money for a few days visit.

I sorely missed having a comfortable armchair in the room - a guest would either sit at a desk or lie in bed. I felt the cold white light above the desk was a poor choice, a bulb with warmer light would make working in the room so much more enjoyable.

High quality accommodation. All looks new, clean and neat. Beautifully renovated city house. Useful and accurate pre-arrival information on check-in, breakfast, etc. Great breakfast. We arrived after 7pm where street parking is free. The next morning we parked half-day at Parking Gil Vicente in the same street about 100m before Dom Jose Alojamentos on the left side which is about fifty percent more than street parking - still very affordable for shorter periods. The host sends plenty of parking options in the pre-arrival information.

A very warm welcome from our vivacious host with excellent English. Immediately we were provided with a town map and suggestions of places to visit. Accommodation was palatial in an old residence with a stunning ceiling and chandelier, French doors to a balcony, and roses blooming in the back garden. Excellent buffet breakfast was good value. We were able to walk easily to the various historic sites (castle, ducal palace, old city wall) and busy squares with restaurants. Also a direct walk to the train station.

Carlos was extremely communicative, helpful and welcoming, sending us tips before we even arrived! The house is a beautiful building in the centre of Guimarães, perfect location being right around the corner from the main squares but also just a 10 minute walk to the bus station. The beds and bathroom were comfortable and clean. The black out blinds and heating meant we slept perfectly. The breakfast was also delicious with a buffet and eggs. The garden at the back was a nice place to sit.

Very welcoming and helpful host who was able to give us lots of information about the best sites etc. Beautiful building and character rooms with access to a pretty garden area Great location only yards from Medieval town. Very quiet .

Loved the accommodation and highly recommend it but , only slight criticism was that beds were not turned down after each night and no replenishment of water bottles in room for each day.

Carlos was our host. he was so quick to respond to any questions. Met us at the appointed time and sent us numerous suggestions for local things to do and places to eat. He was wonderful. The building and apartment were so beautiful and quaint. The breakfast was ample and delicious. there is a garden in the bag that was wonderful for sitting in the late afternoon sun. closely located to lots of activities and numerous restaurant in the local squares. I would definitely return here. well worth the value

Loved it all.

We loved the place, a very well located and enormous kind of a palace. Carlos, who hosted us couldn't been more friendly and helpful, he gave us tips, suggestions and advice, and he even help us with some requirements regarding dates and times. Breakfast was also very abundant and delicious. We definitely recommend staying at Don José Alojamentos. Thank you dor everything.

We were located at the apartments called Santa Luzia, close to the hotel (not at the hotel itself). The apartment was really cleaned, with a separated bedroom, and very functional. The location was close to the main attractions points and it was very quiet as well. The breakfast from the hotel was good. The host Carlos made our trip more enjoyable by recommending nice places to go to, as well as free park spaces close to the location (which was very useful!). Highly recommended for a nice stay in the city.

Nothing it was perfect.

We loved the central location. The staff were very helpful, Carlos gave us lovely recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. We were able to whatsapp when we needed his assistance and he was very quick to respond.

It would have been nice to have a fridge or a kettle in the room. It was advertised as having a courtyard view- we only saw a small corner of the courtyard- the rest of the view was a wall with an air-conditioner.
