Generally this is a really beautiful hotel, in a an old monastery and the atmosphere of the hotel is exceptional. We particularly liked the pool and the food (even though the latter was a bit pricey).

For a 5 star hotel the furniture and equipment of the rooms is very basic. Additionally, you need to bring your own water (they are charging 3 euros per bottle, which I find unacceptable in a 5 start hotel!)

room and breakfast were good, as expected. grounds are lovely, especially in good weather

dinner was disappointing - just average, whereas dinner at other pousades was excellent.

This property was amazing! What a unique hotel! It was so fun to drive up the windy, tiny road to the top of the hill to find an amazing building with lovely views. The hotel is stunning. It's like you're walking through a museum only you get to stay there. The architecture, paintings, and ceramic tiles were the background for leisurely strolls in the beautiful grounds. We had a fabulous dinner and drinks in the lounge and enjoyed our breakfast in the morning. The price was so reasonable. A shout out to the very friendly and very helpful staff!

Be aware that the room is small, but the ambiance made up for it.

A beautiful historic building, beautifully restored and furnished. It's up a steep hill on a narrow winding road. That makes it a little far from the historic center of Guimarães, but it also means the view is fantastic. We were near the gondola ride that went up to the Sanctuario de Penha, a landmark you can see for miles around.

I appreciate the need to do fall cleanup in the parkland uphill from the building, but some fires for the cleanup meant too much smoke. It kept us from walking there. But we based on wind direction, we went upwind from the cleanup area and had a nice walk anyway.

the building is awesome and wonderful and the views fantastic. don't miss the wonderfully cool enclosed terrace with a gorgeous fountain. truly a unique hotel. the staff were extremely helpful and nice. Altogether a superb place to stay

the dinner was a little disappointing, although the service was immaculate and quite formal, and the staff friendly and helpful the food itself seemed set up for larger groups and, despite the mouth watering menu descriptions was a little like an exotic school dinner. prices in the restaurant are high compared to elsewhere in town, possibly nice for a very formal dinner but i would probably not eat there again. although its convenient as the hotel is quite far from town, if a short ride in an uber

The historical property was absolutely amazing. The staff was welcoming and friendly, the beds were comfortable and the rooms spacious. My family enjoyed walking the grounds and learning about the history of the monastery. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant downstairs were fantastic. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the hotel. Town was a short walk or easy Uber ride away. Our stay at Pousada Mosteiro de Guimarães was our favorite part of our Norte vacation.

The building is absolutely gorgeous and the grounds are lovely. The breakfast buffet is large and plentiful. We ordered room service and the quality of the meal (which can be questionable with room service) was very high, the food was hot and similar to a restaurant experience. We brought our dog and she was welcomed with a fun gift box. Lastly, their bartender makes a delicious old fashioned!

The building is huge and the hallways are very long, which makes sense due to its original use, but they could do a better job with access to the outside gardens. Our room was located on the 2nd floor at the end of the hall, which made it a very long walk to get outside as the doors are locked at that end. There was no way our dog would be able to make this walk to relieve herself, so we requested a move to the ground floor. Our dog was able to access the garden, but we weren't as there are gates across the doors. A little odd. Although dogs are 'allowed', they are only permitted in the room or outside (but, not the pool area), which is inconvenient when trying to have a cocktail in the bar or dine anywhere on the property.

Staying in such a stunning historical building surrounded by beautiful large, well-maintained gardens. It was always a fair walk from our room to the dining area and lobby, but it was a delightful experience because it meant going through spacious corridors and rooms which were all a feast for the eyes, with their antique portraits, stone floors and plush red rugs. There were some very inviting covered outdoor lounge areas, close to the rooms, perfect for chilling. The breakfast room was lovely and peaceful and the breakfast excellent . Our room was comfortable and there was a fridge. The hotel pool is immaculately clean and refreshing.

Going out of the hotel to eat involves a long uphill walk back, although taxis are reasonable. When we ate in the hotel restaurant, there was a large party in and we felt a bit like the poor relations. My husband's vegetarian main course was rather small but otherwise the food was very good and like everything else, a memorable experience.

View and the garden - exceptional. Very impressive place, with lots to see around. Make sure to take time to explore.

It was rather cold and humid. Also, the sound insulation - the room door is rather thin. The fire places in the restaurant - they should be working 24/7, it’s very disappointing how they loos on such a simple things.

Attention to detail.The setting and grounds were amazing. Breakfast excellent. Dinner and wine list excellent. Bar and cocktails were a great addition. Staff were some of the best we have had the pleasure of.

It was a shame pool wasn't open yet. 30c my husband would have been in. The dog barking next door for an hour but once mentioned to reception never heared it again. I was dreading the night but no need. We did have a very squeeky floor board.
