Location ideal, staff extremely pleasant & helpful, good menu choice & particularly liked the door hanger - "sleeping like a bairn" & "make my room bonnie" 😀 Would happily recommend McKays Hotel to friends & family & look forward to booking with McKays Hotel again in future.

We were initially booked into the Townhouse, 2nd floor, twin room but on arrival we were given the keys to Room 109 which had 2 beds pushed together with a chest of drawers placed to one side. As 2 single females, we would have preferred the beds apart with chest of drawers plus table lamp between the 2 beds for reading before sleep 😴 However we were happy to be staying in the main hotel & the above suggestion is only a personal preference, otherwise we were both very comfortable.

Excellent fresh cooked breakfast with coffee, juice, toast, yoghurts, fruit etc on an eat as much as you lie buffet service. Nice large room with super king and single bed when a twin room was requested. Very pleasant bar area for evening meals and we had a walk up and down the main street and this was the only bar / hotel we saw with people eating and drinking at 9.00PM

We had the loft room and the bathroom was functional but beyond tiny, you could just about fit 2 hands into the sink so having a wet shave was a bit of a challenge and the extractor did not work so you had to open the window in the roof to clear the room of steam after a shower Car park is small and we couldn't get a space when we arrived so parked across the way. but had to move the car by 8.30AM

The food was excellent - both dinner and breakfast. The room was nice, and very clean. And the bathroom was spotless and fresh. There was also entertainment in the bar, with a live band for Burn's Night and all the guests joined in, danced and enjoyed themselves. We had two dogs and the staff gave them lots of attention - there was even a Dog Welcome bag in the room!

No grumbles from us. The hotel was a bit bigger than I expected, so was different from what we had pictured. But it was lovely, well run and there's nothing we can suggest to improve things.

We found the hotel restaurant warm and welcoming. It is a 3 minute walk from the train station and with all the luggage for us and baby that was a relief. The cottage we stayed in was fascinating. We didn’t find out for sure, but I’m sure it was built in the 1800s and the small stairs upstairs to the wonky landing must be authentic. It was so clean and beds so comfortable my my daughter (who gets up lots with her baby) said it was the best sleep in ages!)

I think I would have liked their continental breakfast more if it had porridge, cheese or more fruit. However, I think they really want customers to buy from the menu. Dinner, was fabulous!

We were in the 2nd building which had the smell of fresh paint, the room was lovely and clean and well kept.

Only card payment accepted for dinner... and when one of our party only had cash, we were met with quite an attitude from the waitress who was arranging our bill. She was not the one who served us all night as she was lovely and very attentive, but the one who took our payment was very abrasive. I expected the breakfast to be better. We were not asked how we wanted our eggs when ordering the fill breakfast, and the hollandaise sauce with eggs benedict was very false tasting, as if it came from a packet. Also the "roast ham" that came with it was pretty much sliced sandwich ham. ⁷

Location is great right in the heart of Pitlochry. Recently modernised with a contemporary feel and not decorated head to toe in tartan as other hotels in the town are. We had a superior room which was very nice. A good breakfast

Nit picking but no Orange juice at breakfast and the other juices were room temperature. No parking available at the hotel. Street parking is available but you do need a bit of luck to get a close by spot. Also we had a blue badge but think there are some restrictions for others. I wouldn’t let it put you off booking as most hotels in the high street have a similar problem.

Fab dog friendly hotel in a great location in central Pitlochry. Our puppy was welcomed by all the staff and they were really thoughtful about where our room was located. It was her first time staying in a hotel and we were relieved to be in a corner of the hotel so we didn't worry about disturbing people. The bar area is big so lots of dog friendly eating space too. Lovely food and staff. We were directly above the bar but the live music was barely audible upstairs which was great. The room was spacious and bathroom was small but clean. The floor of the shower was non slip which was fantastic as I often get nervous in slippy hotel showers (a small point but super important to me). Good cupboard space too. All in all, a fab visit.

No fridge in the room (not the end of the world but would have been good).

Very good location. We were across the road from the main building, but it was very convenient as long as you don’t mind the stairs. Good size twin room and bathroom with everything we needed. Had a good breakfast in the morning. Dinner is quite expensive, but this hotel is more reasonable than most in Pitlochry.

Going for a drink and dinner in the main building was rather confusing as there are several sections to the open plan restaurant and bar, but we were not allowed to sit where we would have liked. The back of the room is dark and we didn’t want to sit in the noisy sports bar where we were directed, but even though there seemed to be quite a few tables in the front near the windows, staff were reluctant to let us sit there.

Central location with parking. Decor was tasteful and modern with a nice hint of Scottish theme in hotel. The bar/lounge area was uniquely decorated with various antiquities on ceiling and walls. Food was excellent.

We stayed in a superior double room at the front of the property. Lovely decoration with big bay window looking over the street. However, this made it quite noisy for sleeping when window is open. A few other minor points - the plug for the hairdryer is away from the mirror and cord not long enough to use mirror. The rain shower head needs to be cleaned regularly as parts were blocked and water was squirting in all directions. Lastly the toilet roll holder was loose and toilet roll kept falling off.

A clean, warm room with comfortable beds and bedding. The shower was easy to use and towels plentiful. The staff were great, friendly, helpful and efficient will definitely stay again.

The ridiculously small wash hand basin drain was slightly blocked and the glass shelf above it sloped when anything was put on it and allowed them to fall off it also came in contact with your head when washing your face. The wall mirror was so far away from any electrical socket that my wife couldn't use her tongs etc. never mind still a good visit.
