It has great location, walking distance to anything you might wanna see. Staff is nice and willing to help you with any issues or queries about what to do in the city. The hostel itself is spacious (rooms, dining area, TV room), not noisy, which is always a plus. The bar is small but does the job, and if you dont want to be indoors, you always have the backyard to chill. If I go back to York, I'm staying here again

Found washing/drying a little expensive. Considering the dryer didn't actually dry my clothes properly. Something that could improve, but definitely not a deal breaker

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Astor hostel hotel From the moment I arrived, the manager and staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. They even arranged a parking bay right outside, which was a great convenience. Check-in was seamless, and as a World of Astor Member, I was delighted to receive lounge and breakfast including security luggage room-such a thoughtful perk! The staff were always eager to assist and ensured everything went smoothly for my tourist trip. The hotel’s location is perfect, with stunning city views, and the facilities were top-notch luxurious clean great hotel to explore the city. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning again soon!

Loved the period house and the warm welcome and the fully equipped kitchen was fantastic. I requested a bottom bunk and was super pleased to had they confirmed. The lounge was great.. a comfy area.. lovely to have a piano abs guitars and film screen.

I’d have liked access to a kettle after 10pm to make a hot drink. Next time I’d prob bring a flask but if you’re out until 10pm that’s a drawback Curtains wld be a great addition to the bunk beds - I was on a bottom bunk and I ‘made’ curtains from a sarong and my towel. There were some handy bull dog clips already on the bunks.. useful to take with you.

There were bathrooms with each sleeping hall with a rained and a bathtub, hangout lobby was actually used and provided games and 2 chess boards, kitchen that encouraged to store and use your own food if you're into that. Erika staff performing small city tours

Breakfast is relatively meager (to be fair it is 3,50£) with only some toasts, marmalade and cereals. Staff wasn't allowed to mix tasks it seemed, could stand at the bar and behind the bar staff wasn't allowed or didn't know tabled code to sell drinks only reception could so when he was busy we had to wait. Under bed storage lock wasn't provided (common practice tho)

I'm surprised at how well I slept. Long time since I stayed in a dorm so I was vaguely traumatised at the thought, it was the only accommodation in York I could afford. This city has gone up in price so much. I was pleasantly surprised. Free coffee and tea. Kitchen to make food. Nice places to chill out/sit read a book. Biggest surprise was how comfy the bed was. It certainly beat those weird pokey smelly b&bs with dodgy carpet that I have stayed in previously in York that are very expensive and not very nice. Here, there are Helpful staff. Relaxed..would certainly stay here again.

There wasn't anything I didn't like. Its really nice.I suppose it's not desperately accessible as the building is very old if that was something someone needed.

Staff were great, very friendly. From Ellies phone call to reply to my message, to the check in explanation very informative and friendly. Place had a nice atmosphere, lovely building with good communal facilities. Room was clean, really good value for money. Parking was an absolute bonus. We'd stay here again without hesitation!

Noisy extractor fan which came on with motion sensor light so no option to leave it switched off overnight so as not to disturb others sleep, but i recognise its necessary to manage condensation to avoid damp. This is the only thing that could have been better and even then, it didn't cause an issue, we were so tired from all the walking and sightseeing, we slept soundly anyway!

I honestly had such a great time here. Staff were friendly and polite (even extremely patient after I cocked up their microwave). Pub quizzes were a lot of fun and my team came in second place! There were even two shower facilities in our rooms and lot of places for charging devices. The hostel is within walking distance to Micklegate, local pubs (including a Weatherspoons), and the local hospital. Rooms were kept clean and the morning breakfast was pretty good as well whilst being a bargain at the same time.

Can't complain about much, really. There were a lot of snorers in the room? The only main thing I can remember was that the dryer didn't dry well enough. Perhaps the heating coil is done?

Kitchen is very spacious. It has a refrigerator to keep all Guest’s food. Also it has enough space within kitchen to keep day-to-day Guest’s food. There are 2 microwave’s, 2 Kettle’s, available in the Kitchen. Tea bags, Coffee power, Sugar, milk and Juice are available free of cost throughout day. It has all the utensils and Stove to prepare food for Guests The Hostel has a spacious dining area and also a bar counter attached to it. They keep playing nice music through the day They have a reading/tv room which is very nice and beautiful, also they play some movies, football matches in the big screen too Guest can have conversations with other guests during tea time Staff are very friendly and helpful They have a Chess board in the Bar Counter. Ash is Chess Master and he always encourages Guests to play Chess They provide breakfast in the morning for £3.5 They have Laundry facility (washing £4 and Dryer £2) The shower room is spacious with hot water throughout the day. Compared with a hotel B&B, this was amazing value. I was in a four-bed dormitory (2 x 2 bunk beds), Friday to Monday, which had a private shower-room for use only by those in the room. There was a desk & chair, a large wardrobe for hanging clothes and dedicated baskets for clothes and other personal belongings, which could be padlocked underneath the bottom beds. There was hot water available all day and a good working radiator, which was ideal for drying clothes, shoes and socks made wet in the rainy weather. Plenty of charging facilities. On the Saturday night, I was lucky to share the room with a group of three, two of whom were also running the Yorkshire Marathon on the Sunday; we made our way to the marathon together the next morning. The main value came in the facilities offered at the hostel: A large kitchen (free tea and coffee all day and complete cooking facilities for self-catering, plus breakfast in the morning for a small charge); a dining area and separate lounge to relax in; also a bar selling beer, wine, spirits or soft drinks, with a big screen above it for showing sports, and usually some nice background music playing in the evenings. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and I couldn't have had a nicer stay. I was introduced to a member of staff, who was also running in the marathon.

I stay here every time I pass by York. It's clean, it's adequately quiet (no crazy parties, pub/bar noise, drunk crawling around). Big and always clean kitchen with everything you need. The rooms are really warm and there're plenty of them with the toilets in and outside of the rooms. Very cool lounge area with piano, chess, etc. Nice and chilled atmosphere. Staff is absolutely lovely and helpful! The best guys ever. Parking is a BIG bonus (5£ per a day, what else to wish). Guys alway allow me to leave my car for another 2-3 hours after checkout. 15 min walk to the old town.

It's an overall thing in all UK hostels that there're no curtains on the beds. Would be really great to have them. And the shelves over the bathroom sinks are really needed.
