AFTER THE 1ST NIGHT IT WAS VERY GOOD THE 1ST NIGHT I WAS IN A ROOM WHICH I DECRIBE AS TERRIABLE. BOOK IN FOR 6 NIGHT IT TO GET A ROOM WITH NO CHAIR TO RELAX IN IN A TINY ROOM 348 WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. NEXT MORNING I WENT TO RECEPTION AND SAID I WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE ROOM. THEY WERE EXTREMALY HELPFUL AND GOT ME A LOVEY ROOM WHICH MADE ME FEEL I WAS ON HOLIDAY. MY ONLY CONCERN WAS IF I HADN'T COMPLAINED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 6 HORRIBLE DAYS. I WAS THERE AS IT WAS A YEAR SINCE MY HUSBAND HAD DIED AND IT WAS TO MAKE ME FEEL A BIT BETTER TO BE SOMEWERE NICE. ALL THE STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL. THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND I DID HAVE A GOOD TIME

Location is fantastic, right at the York station and just outside the York wall hence the town centre is within short distance from the property. Spacious room, has almost everything you need including supply of daily water in the frige Breakfast was great, good selection of food, juices, hot and cold food. The bar is nice. Plenty of parking spaces and the gym and pool areas are awesome, including the spa, steam room and sauna. Lots of conference rooms too. There are lifts to go to your hotel room.

There's no lift in the entrance to bring luggages so we had to lug our luggages up the stairs to get into the reception areas. Similarly no lift at all other entry or exit points from the property to move luggages when checked out Would be good to be provided with face washers in the bathroom

Beautiful hotel. Check in staff were fantastic - looked after our bags and gave advice etc. Breakfast was excellent. Communal areas were very impressive. Warm and cosy throughout inside. Location couldn’t be closer to station and city is very walkable.

9 instead of 10 as leisure facilities could do with an update to meet the high standards of the rest of the hotel. So could parts of the room (e.g broken bathroom door lock - just needs some TLC) Also: staff in the garden room kept 2 reserved tables for over 45mins past the time (great if you’re the customer running late but meant that we were turned away for a cup of tea)

Historic building in a beautiful city. Very central for shopping and markets. Lovely friendly staff on reception and throughout the hotel. Delicious breakfast with plenty of choice. Delicious fresh fruit, pastries and hot food, for a full English breakfast. Rooms a good size, especially the luxurious bathrooms. Beds very comfortable and good quality bedding. Fridge in the room was a nice touch and unexpected Parking st the hotel. Pool, steam room, sauna & jacuzzi were available to use at no additional charge and although only relatively small, were relaxing and nice to use. Lockers need attention though as a lot of the locks were not working. Lovely central staircase was a centrepiece to the hotel. Nice spacious lounge, with tea/ coffee available to sit and relax.

Parking prices, £20 per 24 hrs. When you are paying £200 per night for a room, a further £20 seems a lot. Initially, we were given a room with scaffolding and netting outside the window and workmen digging on the road below. This blocked any view and also light coming into the room. We requested and were given a change of room on the 4th floor, with a lot better view.

The hotel is really lovely. Our room, a junior suite was great. It was big and clean. The mattress was incredibly comfortable so the room was 10/10. Breakfast was good, in a lovely dinning room with a great variety. Staff was very professional, helpful and kind.

I don’t think that the spa was as good as I was expecting. The cleanliness wasn’t the best. Around the hot tub you could see dirt as well as in the shower next to it. Most lockers in the changing rooms weren’t working. In summary, I believe the leisure centre of the hotel was quite outdated and did not match the quality of the rest of the hotel

Warm welcome, helpful and friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Located beside the Train Station, which is great if you don’t want to drive. Only a 5 minute walk into the City via the Castle walls or over the bridge. Lovely garden room set at the front of building for quiet conversation & drinks. Separate Bar area at rear of Hotel adjacent to the on-site Restaurant Peachy’s Bar & Grill. Outside terrace which was a great sun trap & pleasant in the evening. Good selection at breakfast, fresh fruits, cereals, pastries & full English. All day bar menu. Dinner Menu was good but pricey! Spa Area accessible by a couple of flights of stairs, with Pool, Steam Room & Jacuzzi Rooms were clean and comfortable, bed was amazing I had the best 2 nights sleep.

Restaurant food was ok, but over priced, we had better quality / priced meals in the city. Spa lockers didn’t work & signage to facilities in spa were poor.

Room excellent, facilities also. Particularly liked the choice of casual seating areas and ability to relax. Bar comfortable and grounds well kept. A massive improvement since the Royal York days. Staff a credit to the business

Disappointed that the garden room was mainly occupied by business users a number of whom were not hotel guests and occupied tables for periods in excess of 3 or 4 hours. I witnessed an elderly couple who had difficulty finding a comfortable table because of the business groups or individuals taking those spaces despite barely ordering drinks or beverages/ snacks or food. Would be better for those people to be shown to a business centre area thus allowing hotel guests not to be distracted by business calls and conversations

The location is supurb! Very convenient if travelling by train since the hotel is right next to York Train Station. It is very easy to just push our heavy luggages into the hotel. And not too far from the City Center, just 10 minutes easy walk there. We chose the Side Building rooms 5 mins walk from the reception. In Summer there is Thor’s Bar at the back yard garden, super fun! The staffs are very very helpful, very polite, very friendly. The buildings, the decorations, the rooms are gorgeous in every corner. Breakfast is good enough. 2 nights were so impressive that we did not want to leave.

Formerly known as The Principal York, this grand hotel is located right next to the train station. It has a great atmosphere, with large halls, elegant decorations, and creaking floors at the room level—very atmospheric and absolutely memorable. The breakfast includes a full English option and a solid selection of other choices. Nothing extravagant, but everything is of reasonable quality (which apparently does not apply to their restaurant). The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the complimentary bottled water in the room was much appreciated. Overall, this was a very pleasant stay, and I would definitely return.

Comfortable hotel - we took advantage of a £20 upgrade to Junior Suite with Minster view which was great. Swimming Pool was good though a little cold and steam room was out of order....

Breakfast was disappointing. We arrived at the time suggested to us on a poster by the lifts when it was due to be less busy. It was very busy and most choices had gone and were not replaced. We had to look for cutlery which staff were slow to provide. Coffee was stewed and there were hardly any pastries left. Breakfast was our only grumble in an otherwise lovely hotel - needs attention.
