We stayed at this historic hotel in the heart of old town York for four nights and had an absolutely wonderful time. We had fantastic views right out of our window of the York Minster. Our room was spacious and furnished beautifully. The room was very clean and the bed super comfortable. We had a sitting area in the room which added greatly to the comfort and the ability to unwind a bit after a busy sightseeing day. The heavy drapes meant that we could shut out the light and noise of the outside when we wanted to. The room was well insulated from the noise of the street. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was outstanding. We ate several evening meals in the attached restaurant and every meal was delicious. The location of this property is perfect for being able to walk anywhere in old York. We would definitely stay here again.

The dean court was absolutely BEAUTIFUL 😍 you walked straight out of the hotel and York Minster is just there. It was lit up and decorated beautifully for Christmas and the high ceilings and oldies worldie feel were just amazing. Staff were Incredible,from the reception staff,to the lunch&breakfast staff,even the gentleman who brought our car back for us :) the food at lunch and breakfast was gorgeous!

Location, location, location. It does not get better than this in York. Funny specialty: on check-in you get vouchers for drinks at the bar, one per person per night. If you use the voucher, there is no room service the next day. Your call if you want room service or a free drink.

Rooms are OK but not more than that. Towards the road there is noise, towards the back there is an ugly back yard with air conditioning and the like from nearby places. Noise was still acceptable unless there are drunk people (big difference between weekdays and weekend, in the city, too!). Staff is very diverse: some really care and are very friendly, others not so much.

Great hotel in a great location. Our twin room was beautiful and spacious. Breakfast was exceptional, as were the other dining options offered by the hotel. The staff were friendly, efficient and well motivated, ensuring that every guest was treated with the utmost care and respect. We felt well and truly cosetted.

I remember feeling a bit concerned at the time of booking, that our car would be offsite, and thinking that the parking was a bit expensive. BUT, the car was very safe, and it was actually worth every penny. So DON'T be put off by the parking situation!!

The Dean Court was so close to Yorkminster we could not have been closer unless we brought a tent. The ground floor room we had was beautifully appointed, had comfortable chairs for relaxing and nice linens on a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was much bigger than it needed to be, so that was luxurious as well. The room came with breakfast, that we routinely skip, but not at this hotel, because there was nothing routine about their offerings. We had so many options we ate something different every day (5).

Nothing, staff were welcoming and friendly, service was prompt, food in the restaurant was good. I did not give it the highest score on value, originally, because we usually go to 3 star hotels, so we can travel more often. I can see that the fault is mine not that of the hotel, since I have very few comparable hotels to compare it to. So I adjusted that. You couldn’t ask for a better hotel in York.

We were in an upstairs room and it was very hot in York and the room was sweltering even though there was a mobile AC unit. After our first night we asked if someone could look at the mobile air conditioner as it didn't seem to be working but the kind woman at the front desk (Bea) offered us another room in a newer area of the hotel that was wonderfully cool and we had a very nice rest of our stay in comfort. She was exceptionally helpful. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and the location was superb. We would go back in a heartbeat.

As mentioned, only the level of heat in our original room but there is little they can do if the weather is as hot as it was as there are restrictions against installing AC in older buildings. Otherwise, no complaints at all. In warmer months one may want to ask for a room lower down in the hotel rather than in the roof space.

Location of the hotel couldn't be better for visiting York. Literally across the road from York Minster it is a 10 minute stroll to the Shambles and about 15 minutes from the Jorvick center. The central location makes it ideal for sightseeing and for visiting the large number of cental pubs and restaurants. Staff were very helpful and pleasant throughout the stay.

Our room was very hot and the air conditioner was a portable version and very noisy. Sweat or be deafened was the choice. There was no decent coffee at breakfast. Caffeinated was drip type and over cooked, decaf was powdered only. We ended up going out to get some coffee.

Everything about my stay was extremely pleasant. Stayed for 4 nights; was upgraded to a larger room with sofa, two large windows and away from the street. Faced northwest, so was never hot from the sun, but bright and airy throughout the day. Room was nicely appointed with a roomy bathroom, large walk-in shower, heated towel rack and good lighting. Bed was comfortable and sleeping with windows open in April was lovely. Plenty of electrical outlets. Reception and all staff were top-notch. Breakfast was delicious and served promptly, even when a full house was in the dining room. Breakfast included a 'cold bar' as well as ordering from the menu. Breakfast prices were good, so consider this as a place for your first meal of the day, even if you aren't staying here. Dinner was very good as well. The public areas include the restaurant, with large windows and facing the Minster, a bar area with additonal seating and a lounge with comfortable chairs and tables. All was nicely appointed and sunlight-bright. Bonus: Minster bell serenades.

As is typical in England, the only electrical appliance one can use in a bathroom is an electric razor. The provided hair dryer had to be used in the bedroom area. In my room there was no mirror close enough to an outlet so I could see myself styling my hair. Not a deal breaker.
