Beautiful hotel in central York. Excellent service. We had a double room in Roman House (the newer side of the building). The room was immaculate and quiet with lovely views of the city. The spa left a little to be desired but we had left a spa hotel the day prior so it was hard not to compare. But the spa area is small with only a pool, small jacuzzi and small sauna and steam room. You can book this in 1-hour slots which is more than sufficient time. A lovely bonus to an overnight stay but wouldn’t warrant a spa “day” or using this hotel for that sole purpose. We stayed for new year but did not partake in the hotel’s new year gala events, it didn’t disturb us however either. Excellent service but very pricey. Worth is for a special occasion (in this case a short city break immediately following our rural wedding).

The Grand in York is a beautiful hotel with a fantastic location — perfect for exploring the city. Our room was well-appointed, clean, and comfortable, with all the amenities you’d expect from a high-quality stay. Service throughout was friendly and professional, and the atmosphere in the hotel felt calm and refined. The breakfast offered a good variety, and the overall standard of food was solid. While it didn’t quite have the extra “wow” factor that makes a place unforgettable, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable stay, and I’d happily return on a future visit to York. A solid 8/10.

The room service was a little slow, brought us the wrong bottle of wine. Unsure if it was corrected on final bill or not.

From the moment we arrived we received exceptional service. The building and its facilities are everything you would expect given the proud name it boasts. The cleanliness of the rooms, the attention to detail is outstanding but it is the staff that really makes the stay memorable. Every individual member of the team are warm friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to come back again.

The only thing that had an impact on our stay was the lack of opening windows in the room. We love to have fresh air and the air conditioning really dried our eyes. Next time we’ll check prior to booking

Location, staff lovely, beautiful superior room in the new wing. Spacious with large , comfortable twin beds. Very well placed. The pool ad spa well designed and peaceful and the gym small but well equipped.

No internet. This was reported and not fixed. Another room offered the following day but on moving(into old building) it felt like a downgrade. Small stained sagging beds with tired chipped furniture. We decided to do without the internet and return to original room. Yet another room offered but as we were only there 3 days Couldn’t face wasted time of packing/unpacking again! It was a nuisance and very inconvenient . We were not offered any compensation other than apologies. We did not want to upset ourselves further by making even more noise about the issue. They did not even wave our small bar bill! For a 5 star hotel would expect better facilities, internet, tv upgrades, Netflix/ film access etc

My husband and I had an absolutely delightful stay at this hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make sure every need was met. We were offered an upgrade for only 20 pounds extra and it was worth it. The new room had a view to the city. The staff's warmth and professionalism truly made us feel welcome and cared for throughout our stay. They have recommendations regarding brunch places to go and also offered directions and a key with a map. The Grand York itself is also a gem—the decor is both elegant and charming, with each detail thoughtfully curated to create a luxurious ambiance. The architecture is stunning, effortlessly blending classic design with modern comforts. Every corner of the hotel is a visual treat that adds to the overall experience. They had live music playing at night and the breakfast was delicious, I would say is a must to have when staying here.

The hotel was simply beautiful. The staff were all exceedingly helpful and friendly. We were in the newer section of the hotel - had just as much charm as the rest of the hotel. The room was large, beautifully styled and comfortable. Even the soaps in the bathroom were special (from Molton Brown - you can purchase it from either the hotel or from the Molton Brown store in York). The bar downstairs was luxurious and service was wonderful. We didn't take the breakfast, so I cannot comment on that. Last comment - we took the train to York and the hotel is about a 4 minute walk. But once you cross the City wall - you enter a new world (or rather the Old World) and you would never know you are near the train station.

The rooms were fabulous, really large, plenty of room for a good restful stay. Breakfast was as expected of such a good hotel, plenty of choice. Location was spot on, close to everything. All staff, without exception were very welcoming and friendly.

The only thing, I did find frustrating was the lack of lounge space, particularly if you were in a party of four or more, lots of two seater set ups but very limited larger groups. I felt that there could have been more space for lounge areas, considering the size of the hotel. We struggled to find seating for a drink in the evening, which was sad, considering the lounges did look lovely and inviting.

I’d happily move in and live here if they’d let me! The staff honestly can't do enough for you, customer service is top notch. The rooms are huge, beautifully done. It’s one of those hotels that makes you wonder why your own house can’t look liike this.

If I really had to dig for a complaint, it’s that we were on the ground floor looking out at the service entrance and some scaffolding instead of the lovely city views we’ve had before. But with a baby in tow, I think the hotel wisely kept us near the exit for any midnight screaming. Fair enough, don't blame them. The room was still gorgeous and super comfy!

We come to the Grand a couple of times a year and it is an amazing experience. The staff and atmosphere of the hotel are exceptional.

We are normally extremely happy with our stay and I would still recommend to stay at the Grand for a truly marvellous experience. We were disappointed that a new tasting menu was introduced at the legacy restaurant which wouldn’t normally be a problem but the lamb course was inedible and we had to send it back. Even one of the staff agreed with us. In such a case I would have thought it prudent to issue us with a reduction in charge for such an expensive meal just to acknowledge the fault. We were however charged full amount for a meal that essentially had an inedible course. We aren’t normally picky and we still enjoyed the experience but we wouldn’t do it again.

I stayed here for a few nights recently and found it was very conveniently located for train station and the local tourist sites. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed using the spa facilities as well. The room was, for the most part, comfortable and clean, and the food was good.

I wish there was a small window to open for some fresh air, as the room did get a bit stuffy. Although I enjoyed using the spa, the day I used the jacuzzi it felt lukewarm, others mentioned it was warmer the previous day. And when I had my facial, it was hard to relax because a) you could hear a squeaky door every time someone else was coming into or leaving the pool area, and b) the therapist's hands were so cold throughout the treatment (not sure what could be done about that!)
