The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

The bedroom was a little small and quite hot. It could also have done with a bit of a refresh as the bed and furniture looked rather tired.

Location was superb but a little tricky to find. It's up a small lane / snickleway next to a Mobile phone shop. Room was on the ground floor, tempted to get a bath but ended up getting a shower instead which was a good size and warm enough. Nice fan for when it's hot, everything clean, good pillows and bedding, towels soft too. What I loved the most was how quiet the room was, I've stayed in many city centre hotels and this has to be the quietest.

Only downside was a personal one in that the beds mattress was very hard, some people prefer this and would love this bed but not for me, one night was enough.

Money has been spent in the areas that matter most. The bed and linen were very good, the bathroom was excellent with good water pressure, rain shower, and Molton Brown toiletries, therefore making our visit comfortable. Plenty of electrical sockets, clothing storage, and extra pillows. The building is presented very well and is charming in its character.

We were in a basement room with a vaulted ceiling, which is quite cool, but my husband is 6ft 3 and actually couldn't stand up straight in our room. The room was quite hot in the night, but there is a fan in the room if you wished to use it. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay but agreed it's cool to stay in for a night or two at most for this reason. The coffee facilities were not the best. Just tuckked down the side of the wardrobe, and the mugs didn't fit under the coffee machine properly. The room required some general maintenance overall. But for a short stay, we were fine with the overall quality for the price.

Location was great for walking around the city centre. Liked having a fridge in the room and the secure gate entry system.

The bathroom in Room 9 could do with a paint refresh and the corners of the room at the shower tray could have been cleaner, as could the window frames and skirting boards. The wardrobe hanging space was too small. The information provided by the hotel for car parking was helpful but the prices quoted are out of date. We were over £100 for parking for 4 days!

Incredible how quiet it was for being on one of the busiest streets in central oldtown York. The fact that the windows could be open all night and not hear a peep! Felt immense privacy too, as our windows faced a brick wall.. so sure, no "view", but, it made for privacy and quiet and you can see great things everywhere else in the city. The room was also very, very clean and the staff were SO nice. The room was beautifully designed - simple, clean, and modern feeling even though you are in a gorgeous old building. If you want to be in the center of everything, but still come home at night to peace and quiet, I highly recommend!

This wasn't too much of an issue for me, but there is not a lift. The stairs are big and easy to manage though. There is also no bar or breakfast. Again, not an issue and I knew that before booking, but just FYI in case you are looking for all the bells and whistles. There is a minifridge in the room and tea/coffee amenities which was just fine with me!

3 night stay for pleasure for hubby and myself. Beautiful and absolutely convenient place to stay. 5-10 minutes to everywhere in the city walls. Great rain fall shower. Yorkshire tea, Neff coffee maker and lush biscuits on tray. Fantastic staff. Complimentary Bayliss and Harding toiletries. Soft and alcoholic drinks available as room service. We had a very atmospheric room in basement. Energy saving Spot lights a little harsh but usable. Clean and well serviced if you wish. Bed hard for us but everyone is different.

Loved the location. I liked the fact it’s hidden. So quiet yet in the centre of town. The staff were lovely. The decor whilst sparse is quirky which as an artist I also loved. There was coffee and tea etc with a biscuit available in the rooms. The hotel has no restaurant or bar but I like that it doesn’t because you’re not assailed with food smells and noise at all hours. Step outside the hotel and within a few steps all sorts of cuisines and drinks are available. The bed was exceptionally comfortable as were the pillows. There are lights on all night outside from surrounding buildings as one would expect in a city but the blackout curtains made it a non issue.

Really I have nothing to complain about. The fan in the bathroom squeals but it can be independently switched off and the rooms have plenty of ventilation making it a non issue. The room was a little warmer than I like but I’m always hot anyway by nature and it was also a non issue because there was a wonderful large fan in the bedroom.

Super location & extremely helpful staff. The room was exactly as expected, which made for an outstanding stay in the heart of historic York.

The following is provided for those with limited mobility, and is not meant to detract from the facilities or staff, for we would stay here in the future: The hotel is in a listed building, thus there is no lift and air conditioning. That said, the staff were extremely helpful with our luggage, and the room was provided with several fans.

The building was atmospheric and was directly in the centre, and a couple of minutes walk from the shambles and about a 10 minute walk from York minster. You felt secure as the hotel is back from the main street down an alleyway, which has a key coded gate.

The room we had was an attic room. It was very small and extremely hot. We stayed 2 nights, the first morning from about 5 am it was very noisy, which was the early hours on a Thursday, the second morning it was quiet.

Very comfortable with excellent bathroom and refreshment facilities. Felt secure and secluded even though it is conveniently bang in the centre of the town. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The room could have been a little bit cosier (but that's just my taste). The entrance and foyer were very cosy and welcoming but there is a lot of bare wall space in the room. But I'm scraping the barrel with an improvement...we had a fabulous stay and would definitely stay again :)
