The quirkiness of the whole building, the room was super nice! Bit disorienting going to the loo in the dark with the floor sloping but I loved it. The en-suite was lovely and warm, the shower powerful and nice to have toiletries supplied. The bed was comfortable, a little too maybe as we were meant to be exploring, listening out for anything unusual but we slept like babies. The breakfast was delicious, certainly couldn’t eat all of it but anyone with a huge appetite would have been set for the day. Lots of choice and cooked really well. Location was great and not far at all for the QParking, felt the car was safe too. Staff were lovely, all friendly and we look forward to another stay in the future.

Nothing comes to mind, maybe that there were no ‘bumps in the night’ maybe next time.

I loved it...The Golden Fleece is just an amazing place and so incredible to stay in. You're close to everything in the centre of York, and it's great value for money because you get what you pay for here. Its beautiful decor and the staff really look after you. I'm looking forward to visiting again when I can.The food was also lovely and the breakfast was really good. The room was beautiful and clean.Very spacious I felt right at home.The Staff made it extra special and it was a special occasion and left a lovely surprise on the bed with Fizz and chocolates.

There's nothing i didn't like...I loved my one night stay.

This hotel has all the vibes of a haunted pub! The decor, the ambience. EVERYTHING! I’d hoped to be too tipsy to stay awake but no…I got what a paid for. I couldn’t sleep a wink as I felt I was being watched, someone stroked my head (it wasn’t my husband as he was sparked out after one too many) I went for the experience and I certainly got it! The bed was comfy and the bathroom itself was super spooky! I loved all of it but I was definitely tired the next day. No fault of the pub as that’s what I went for. Evening meal was superb and the pudding was lush. Breakfast was nice although the sausages looked a little too much of what I’d had a good portion of the night before ;-) so I gave thar a miss. Will definitely book again.

Fantastic room, much better than we expected. Beautiful interior design, felt like being in a vampire movie 🖤 Loved the gorgeous antique furniture and the colours of walls and drapery. The bathroom interior looked amazing. Bonus points for LIVE plants in the rooms! Coffee and tea station was very good 👍 The room had everything you could need while staying in a hotel. Everything was clean.

The noise from the pub live music night was a bit late and a bit much but you kind of expect it when you book a room above a lively pub anyway. It didn't ruin our stay there at all just something to be aware of. The paint on doors was all scratched and chipped but that was the only thing that seemed in need of attention.

Perfect location, the shambles and marks and Spencer's right at our doorstep. We stayed at the very top floor, didn't hear any noise from the bar at all. The most authentic York experience you could have, like being transported back in time. Once in a lifetime experience to be able to stay in such a historical building. Our room had a separate lounge area with a sofa. Four poster bed that we loved! Great water pressure in the shower. The floors aren't even, but that just added to the charm. Made for some wonderful memories. No ghostly experience unfortunately 😊

Only thing we could feedback on I suppose, was this almost sewerage smell emitting from the bathroom. I think it's to be expected given it's a really old building.

Wow!!! What a fabulous quirky spooky pub this is. Our stay was fantastic. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant to.The room we were in was Lady Pecketts room on the 3rd floor. The room and decor was stunning and in keeping with the pubs history and character. Nice and clean, bathroom was bigger than we expected to, which was a nice surprise to us. Great location across the road from The Shambles.Now did we experience anything spooky.....all I will say is yes !!! And more than likely we'll be back for more spooky Ness !!!! 👻

We have stayed here before in a twin room and it was wonderful but the double is far superior! The room was clean, really spacious and really well decorated with plenty of characters. They say it's haunted but the ghosts didn't wake us. The bed was really comfy. The shower was amazing in the ensuite. It's a great hotel, with a brilliant location opposite the shambles, The bar is belting with plenty of options too! Loved our stop over, we will be back soon.

Splitting hairs but the only thing we didn't like was checking in. Having to wait at the bar then having to wait for the guy checking us in to change a beer barrel before he gave us the room key. Understandable it was a busy night but after a long drive we really just wanted to get upstairs. Apart from that it was a perfect stay.

Our room was fantastic, the Shambles suite, large and comfortable with a comfy sofa. Coffee machine and kettle, plus plenty of tea, coffee, milk. Beautifully decorated and furnished in character with the age of the building. The private bathroom was beautiful, with a bath and shower. Bar downstairs was lively, plus, there are plenty of other pubs and bars to visit in the vicinity after a day of walking about York. Staff were brilliant in all ways.

Unfortunately, the toilet would not flush away, no matter how many times the chain was pulled. We spoke to staff about this, and it was taken in board well, the issue to be brought up with the manager.

Beautiful gothic style room, helpful and friendly staff. Great food! In a perfect location, right opposite the shambles. Loved the spooky paintings adorning the staircase walls. The pub has live music most nights and is generally quite busy but we were pleasantly surprised that we could barely hear it due to the heavy fire door into our room.

Not a complaint, just a heads up for people with a disabilities. Would not recommend this accommodation for people with mobility problems. Due to its age and general crookedness, the stairs are hard to navigate and the floor is very uneven. Not a problem for me but my mum struggled within the property.

The breakfast was served in the bar area and excellent value for the money lots too choose from had the full English and was stuffed setting me up for the day. The pub has fabulous character perfect for its setting in central York and access to the shambles. The staff were excellent very helpful and even set us up with the cheeky little app for discounts around the pubs of York. The bedroom was the 1st at the top of the stairs the Catherine suite, everything in the room starting from the door was wonky...floors ceiling walls the works just as it should be. The room was large warm and had been decorated for Christmas even a tree in the corner. The downside to the room is it's dark one window overlooking a small courtyard but unless you're staying in all day and not enjoying the delights of beautiful York then this shouldn't be an issue. All in all it's a fab quirky place to stay, it does have entertainment on in the evening if you're an early to bed type of tourist but it's free and a nice finish to an evening. Would/will we go back....most certainly.....👍
