Staff were superb - very pleasant, helpful - special thanks to Kamal, Nandeep, Lavaniya, Ganesh & all those whose names I don't know - excellent service throughout the 2 weeks we stayed. Food for vegetarians and vegans was very good & allowed for choice several days of the week + local vintage inn pub (The Dormouse) is only 5 minutes away. Park n Ride service - we used a lot. Car park for this is 5 minutes away from the hotel. The hotel had provided a fan for the room which we found essential (due to hot weather) and used a lot.

Family room booked (307) needs improvement - carpet is worn & damaged in places - camp beds should be replaced by proper single beds & one mattress was lumpy - more storage space needed (wardrobes, chests of drawers) - safe was locked and unavailable so needs to be unlocked/replaced - no towel rails to dry towels - plumbing a little old so draining water/flushing etc was sometimes slow. Otherwise the room was perfectly acceptable and we did not raise any complaints about these matters because the room is perfectly serviceable. A full family would struggle with the limited storage space available. Would like breakfast to be available until a little later during the week (to 10 am ?) - we were on holiday but got up even earlier than when at home !

The hotel was very nice and the facilities and staff were lovely. The bar space and food options were really good and reasonably priced. It was a short distance to a local park and ride making it quick and easy to get to York. Parking was plentiful and staff were always happy to help with questions. One gentleman in particular on the reception desk was always really approachable.

When cleaning our room the cleaners kept taking towels we'd left to reuse and then didn't always replace them correctly leaving us a towel short on occasions. Our key card also seemed to not always want to work despite trying to keep it away from electronics and was slightly annoying having to walk to reception to get it sorted but staff always sorted it quick with no fuss. There was a wedding event on our last night we weren't aware of and although that itself isn't a major issue it was noisey in our room until 12am that night with the music. The lights were ok although the bedside lights were a bit too high for the switchs to use comfortably from the bed.

The garden and car park were good for the dog in the morning. Breakfast was great with loads of choices. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and well serviced. Car parking was good. Bar was slightly pricey but no more you would expect from a hotel. Plenty of communal areas both inside and outside.

Our room was on the third floor and was very hot. A fan was provided and the window opened slightly, but neither of these cooled the room particularly at night, it was warm weather but the room temperature remained uncomfortable. The £15 charge per night for the dog was unreasonable. A one off charge of £15 on the last night would have been more acceptable as the room would potentially need cleaning a bit more at the end of the stay.

We were greeted by Emily on the reception desk who was very friendly and knowledgeable, the hotel was clean as were the rooms however, there is no air conditioning in the rooms but we were supplied with a fan and were also able to open the window slightly. We had pizza from the bar which was tasty and value for money. One down side is the bar staff seem to congregate and chat at the rear of the bar and on more than one occasion I was kept waiting for at least 5 minutes for someone to serve me. There is plenty of free car parking available which includes disabled spaces close to the entrance. There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel which goes straight to York or around the houses depending on what service you use but either way is very cheap. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you plan on visiting York or the surrounding area.

No air conditioning in the rooms, bar staff have a tendency to loiter at the back of the bar during quiet times but are very friendly when they eventually serve you.

- the included fan and trousers press were nice amenities - the duvet was the perfect tog and the mattress a good firmness. - the curtains were gorgeous. - the towels were lovely and soft. - housekeeping did a great job making sure to turn the room everyday. - the room felt old without feeling unclean or maintained, exactly what we like. The touches such as wooden furniture, creaky floor boards, curtains, wall decorations ect made it feel lovely. - the staff were all lovely. - the character of the whole building was nice.

- there was also little build up of mould and water soaked wood above the window as the window couldn't be closed. - the bath was very narrow, I'm a little chubby (size 16) and it made showering and bathing not only uncomfortable but physically impossible unless i positioned in specific ways which was unfortunate. - the pillows were all very firm, more choice in pillows would be great. - plug sockets either side of each bed would be great as we struggled charging phones.

Located away from the city but using the park and ride made it easily accessible. We walked to the P&R which only took 20mins, even though you walk alongside the main road. Excellent choice of foods for breakfast, we did not eat dinner in. Stunning grounds to sit out in. Liked that we could open both windows and that you provided a fan in place of air conditioning

We were given a downstairs room which was located near doors. These banged when closed throughout the day and night. Rather annoying. Also the room was at the back of the building so not much of a view. Could do with a few more picnic tables on the grass

The hotel was indeed very pleasant, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment we entered. One member of the staff was really nice and helpful with any queries and issues we had during our stay.

During our stay, we encountered several issues within our room, including the presence of spiders and cobwebs. Despite notifying the staff, while the room was cleaned the following morning, the specific areas of concern we raised were not addressed. Furthermore, other issues we brought to your attention remained unresolved throughout our stay.

Good selection however, the cooked breakfast wasn’t hot. It was barely warm on our first morning so we didn’t have it for the remainder of our stay. We had cereal and toast instead. To pay £12 each for a bit of cereal and a round of toast was definitely not value for money. There was no-one manning the food area and we had to ask for a plate as there were none. The shower wouldn’t turn off so a member of staff had to come and try to turn it off on the first morning. There was an alarm that went off at midnight which woke us up and there were guests coming out of their rooms. Took ages to settle again. No-one manning the bar so had to get someone to muster them from somewhere. Room was nicely decorated with anniversary balloons and nice things which we appreciated.

Breakfast! Selection good but cooked food was barely warm

Our stay at this historic manor hotel in York was genuinely special. The building had so much character—it really felt like stepping into a different time, in the best way possible. The rooms were huge, beautifully decorated, and incredibly comfortable. We felt completely at ease and had plenty of space to spread out and relax. The gardens were absolutely stunning. Quiet, green, and beautifully maintained—they made the whole place feel peaceful and secluded, even though we were still just a short distance from the heart of York. The location couldn’t have been better: private and charming, yet close to everything. And the breakfast? Fantastic. Generous, fresh, and beautifully presented. Easily one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had—plenty of variety and everything cooked to perfection.

That said, there were a few small drawbacks. While the age and charm of the manor were part of the appeal, it did come with some limitations. Not all of the rooms had a minibar, and when we asked if one could be brought in, we were told it wasn’t possible. It wasn’t a huge issue, but for a hotel of this caliber, it was a bit surprising. Still, those were minor things in an otherwise excellent stay. We left feeling relaxed, well taken care of, and very much looking forward to returning.

Was staying for business on the 12th May to attend a meeting the following day. Received Such a warm welcome from Laura at reception. Was upgraded to the Honeymoon suite. A lovely gesture thank you very much. The property had 2 tour groups in the same evening and as I am in the industry kind of expected breakfast to be chaos. We came down a little later at 9am so that the tour could get sorted first. When we came down there was plenty of food and all items had been replenished and cleaned around. Lots of clean tables that had been reset. We had a lovely welcome and enjoyed a lovely breakfast. The hotel is very conveniently located for the city centre around 5 mins in an uber, but away from the bustle of the city centre itself and very convenient for the retail park. The decor is a little dated as I am sure you know but everywhere was clean and spotless. Thank you for a lovely stay. Chrissie Legacy hotels.
