Beautiful room very clean loverly beer garden and restaurant

£18 hotel car park charge per night

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The hotel is located about a 5 minute walk from the Minster which is ideal for access. The food, staff and ambience of the restaurant were excellent. The bed is large. The TV screen is very large.

Paying £15 per day for parking adds to the cost of the room. The room had no windows and the room felt very claustrophobic. The sink in the bathroom is small. There are no drawers in the room to store clothes. There is no shelf in the shower for soap, shampoo and conditioner, although there is a shampoo dispenser on the wall. We were asked when we booked if this was a special occasion which we stated it was our anniversary. Nothing extra special was provided. The WIFI did not work in our room.

We stay here whenever we come to York. Good location, lovely staff usually. Comfortable rooms.

Staff always lovely but on our last night the bar area was very chaotic - long queues at times, staff dashing around. One lady ordered bottle wine or prosecco, asked for an ice bucket as it was very hot she was told they had no ice and just put water in ice bucket. The next thing bar staff where filling glasses with ice🤔🤔. They needed change but couldnt find keys as a young man who was sometimes in reception at night had them and they had to chase around after him. We asked him at reception for milk before we went to our room, he said he would bring some up. That was at 9pm we were still waiting when we checked out at 11 the following day! Not good customer service. They seemed to be dealing with beer garden orders over people in the bar, the drinks were continually flowing outside🤔🤔

What a great treat, a last minute booking but a great choice. My welcome was first class, my room comfortable and well appointed. An old listed building, nice friendly bar and good choice of food. Breakfast was freshly cooked and table service. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

My only gripe would be having to pay for parking there.

The whole experience was great The hotel is really lovely Other reviews said their room was small - ours was small but there was ample room - however I did book the smallest room so definitely no complaints from us The room was lovely, as was the bathroom too The bar & restaurant were great too food was excellent For me personally the staff made the visit exceptional Every one of them was so friendly helpful & alwYs happy/ smiling So thank you Churchill hotel for making our stay wonderful I can’t wait to go back!!!

As others stated hotel car park is small and access a little awkward to turn into I agree but it was totally fine We had to pay for parking but left the car almost 24 hours - it would have cost more than that in an NCP/ other car park so this is not a criticism Ut was good to stay so close to the centre of York

Our room was very private and quiet, although smaller than we would have liked since we were 3 adults. The bathroom was large and modern. The room was well appointed with a fan, iron & ironing board, plus an electric tea kettle. Having no elevator, we made good use of their large sweeping staircase which was easy to navigate. Breakfast was very generous and the dining rooms were lovely. The location, just 4 blocks from one of the gates into the old town, was perfect since driving and parking is a nightmare. The hotel has a large outdoor venue for dinner and drinks which was fun and inviting. There are many places to eat nearby if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Otherwise, I would suggest using an Uber/taxi to get around. The staff was very helpful and engaging. We would stay here again if we come back to York.

Our room was exceedingly warm. Only one window opened about 3 inches (safety concerns) and the other window had been sealed shut. A small fan was provided but it definitely wasn't up to cooling our room adequately. As is common, there was no top bed sheet, so our only cover was a down comforter which was way too warm for the season.

Lovely staff, beautiful building, quirky, stylish decor. Great bar and beer garden. Our room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Perfect location for us. Easy walking distance from York centre and train station.

The room is just too small to be a really comfortable stay unfortunately. No room for two of us to easily move around or open large suitcases easily. And hot. Far too hot. I saw other reviews complaining it was too cold but that was not our experience. No air con or fridge and on warm days/nights it makes for a very uncomfortable stay. A lot of noise from staff early morning below our window and the train line runs by the hotel too, so no long lies! This is a lovely hotel and we may choose it again for location, bar, staff etc but in terms of value for money, I do feel we are choosing to pay for style of the hotel and the customer service rather than the the actual room. Perhaps fancier rooms offer better value.

Location was very good. Within walking distance to everything. The food was really good and the wood fired pizzas were excellent.

Most of the staff were not engaged in their job. Most were young and seemed to want to engage with each other rather than the guests. There was one gentleman at the front desk the last day that was excellent but I did not get his name. He was probably in his 40’s. One of the restaurant staff was a young woman who was very nice and helpful but the rest were very young and not engaging either. The man who cooked the pizzas was great. The shower/tub water in our room ran extremely hot. We couldn’t call to find out how to fix it right away as there were no room phones. We were told later that has been a problem.

The staff were especially friendly and quick to please. The room was spacious and with the high ceilings we felt like royalty. The food and drink were excellent. Parking i the courtyard was convenient. The location was superb - a short walk to the York gates. I would stay at the Churchill again and recommend it to anyone. One note, not a criticism, the rooms are not air conditioned, so a summer stay might be dicey from that perspective.

Our room was the Admiralty and the carpet in the hallway was watr marked making the approach o our room a bit gloomy, but once we entered the room, all ws forgotten.

Our room, a four poster bedroom at the front of the property overlooking the garden, it was beautiful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is an attractive building, the garden is very well maintained and we liked the short walk into the centre of York by the river.

Not being able to order drinks from waiters in the beer garden or order breakfast from our room. Every request must be made through the app, it was very off putting and time consuming, we used the app once during our stay with the help of a kind waitress. Also if there was an emergency while in the bedroom there wasn't phone therefore no way of communicating with reception staff other than using a mobile phone.
