Breakfast was superb and the lad who was serving (I think he is the manager) was very professional and helpful.

Entertainment on the Friday night was really Lound and carried on to.after midnight. On the Saturday we made our way back to the hotel intending to have our evening meal there, but we're informed that there was no food available as there was a problem with the kitchen. Also we booked the deluxe room unfortunately the bed was extremely lumpy , think a upgrade on the mattress is required.

Staff is excellent. Friendly, welcoming and just plain nice. Location is ideal…directly across from the High Petergate into the old town and right next door to the York Art Gallery. Tons of restraints of all kinds all around. If you like Indian food 2 excellent ones less than 20m away. Easy walk from the train station…maybe 10 minutes and relatively flat with literally 2 turns. The room is well appointed and very comfortable. Bed was excellent…slept great! Towels are huge and soft! Breakfast was included in my stay and was delicious. Served 9-10 am which may cramp you early risers style. There is a coffee shop across the street if you need it and a Sainsbury less than 100m as well. Keep in mind…there is no lift so you’ll have to climb stairs to your room and there is no air conditioning (not that you need it in York except a few days per year. My room (#5) had a wonderful cross breeze between two windows and at night I had to close them. Shower a bit tricky for hot water but once you get it, it’s a great shower by UK standards! Also…it didn’t bother me at all but they do have Karaoke on Friday nights in the pub ( which is a proper pub) until about 11 and sometimes live music. Some may not like the volume, but it really wasn’t that bad (some of the singers were 😂). Just a heads up

Honestly it was exactly what I wanted and expected. I try to avoid chain hotels that are the same wherever you are. Unique places are for me!

Very near to York Minster cathedral - about 10-min. walk at my slower pace. "Full English" & "Small English" breakfast were good & quite large - didn't need any lunch.

The hot water for shower was a bit of a problem - had to run the hot tap in tub until it warmed up, then turn shower on & tub tap off. In this process, the water in tub was too hot for my feet to stand in the tub to do this. Seemed to be plenty of very hot water, once it got warmed up for the shower,

I stayed in the Deluxe Ensuite with Bath and had an absolutely wonderful experience. I chose to travel on Thursday, without any late-night event, the room is thus quiet, we had a very restful sleep. The staffs were very friendly and accommodating, providing us with the best room available. The breakfast was made to order, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Because the building has a charming, historic feel, some of the facilities are a bit old. However, there are detailed instructions provided on how to use everything. Our bathroom was very spacious and has a bathtub, which was perfect for couples. It left a lasting impression on us. The location of the hotel is perfect – right in the city center, close to the York Art Gallery and within a 10-minute walk to all major attractions. It is also conveniently situated near plenty of great dining options. This was my first time staying in a traditional-style inn, with a pub downstairs and guest rooms upstairs, and it exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting York.

I was very pleased with the room; the decor made me feel like I had stepped into an old British movie, fulfilling all my imaginations of the past. However, possibly due to the building's historic nature, the electrical layout differs from modern hotels. The charging outlets were a bit far from the bed, making it inconvenient to use my phone while lying down. Additionally, the trash bin in the room were a bit small. We bought a lot of souvenirs and had to compress the packaging waste to fit everything in the bin. The breakfast was incredibly plentiful. The staff made us tea and prepared a large bottle of fresh orange juice. The portions were generous, and we were absolutely full. However, travelers with smaller appetites while dislike wasting food might find it a interesting dilemma lol.

This is an old pub - the room was comfy and the shower hot - there is a huge bath too - it is a busy pub but the noise level was fine and the location is perfect - the staff are so friendly and happy to help always - new management I believe and everyone seemed to work together well. The breakfast is included and while not fancy - there was plenty of it. Certainly more than happy with our stay.

We were on the top floor which was fine - there are lots of steep stairs but we were ok.

perfect location, everything within walking distance. staff were very friendly. nice size room, lovely big bath, breakfast was good. not much choice of cereal, but cooked breakfast was enough for me.

Steep stairs especially with luggage but member of staff offered to help. plumbing a bit noisy. room needs blackout blind. decor needs freshening up but it is a room above a pub and you get what you pay for.

Good pub environment. Pub was busy on the day we stayed with a birthday party on. We were warned by the staff that it was going to be a little lively till midnight, we embraced it and joined in the fun. Rooms were good comfortable bed with umbrellas in the room, nice touch . Short walk to York minister then on to the centre. Decent full English breakfast. Staff were super friendly. Would definitely stay here again

Comfortable, clean room. Amazing location. Really couldn’t be better. The pub downstairs is great. Staff very welcoming and considerate. Includes REAL breakfast - full English - and not just cereal or muffins or whatever. One of my favorite places I’ve stayed on vacation.

Water could’ve been a little hotter in the shower. I guess.

Staff were fabulous. Mattress was comfy and great night sleep. Breakfast was great too and they very kindly accommodated us for a slightly late breakfast due to clashing commitments.

We had to ask for towels on first night of stay and they weren’t immediately available but were delivered in 20 mins all good.

The landlady went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasurable as possible and went out of her way to get us to our concert when we couldn't get a taxi due to a traffic incident very friendly and made us feel at home Thank you clare

Just needs the rooms updating but would definitely stay again already looking for the next break
