Just what we were looking for, a place where you get to meet the locals, have entertainment (a live band on Fridays) and be close to the city centre. The bar staff were very welcoming and friendly, and we had a great time getting to know them and the locals. The room was lovely and the bed was comfy and instead of room numbers the rooms are named, ours was called 'The Grand Old Duke of York'. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for the same things as us. We had an amazing time here, thank you and hopefully we will be back in the future.

The room was good, TV worked, warm enough and clean enough, en suite v convenient, kettle etc useful. Staff were friendly and easy to access etc. out of hours. Ideal location for central York. The breakfast was great, full English and other options plus cereal and juice on the side, and all very tasty. Loved there being black pudding, a real treat! Possible to customise so I removed tomato and my partner didn't get beans etc, which is ideal.

The bed was a little small (a double for two). The only thing was we were disappointed there was no ground coffee/coffee machine options - just instant. Would recommend a cafetiere in future for that.

A great little place very close to all of York's shops, restaurants and tourist sites. The room was really nicely decorated and had all the little touches that make your stay comfortable, such as tea and coffee facilities, complementary water, and toiletries in the bathroom. The staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome straight away. At the time of booking, this room was the same price as the Premier Inn and it was far superior to anything they offer. I'm glad I chose to support a local business.

One of the compromises of being so central is that there can be a little bit of noise from traffic and people passing by. It didn't bother me that much, but may bother a light sleeper. I think this will be the case for most places in the centre though.

Quick easy check in and check out. Forms on arrival were easy to fill out. Staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. Room was easy to find and with a simple door locking mechanisam. Hall way to the room was well lit

Wasn't much to not like about the hotel. The fob on the key was made it awkward to carry in the pocket however we just removed the fob from the key and it was no issue. The room was a little small but it was to be expect as this is an old building so nothing to really complain about. Parking was a little expensive on the carpark behind the hotel however, on reflection the rates seemed to reflect the standard rates round York.

Good location, very clean room with en suite, kettle in room along with hair dryer, iron cooling fan & heating fan, TV plenty of storage space for clothes, the bed was comfy but was only a double & very close to the wall on one side (this maybe a problem for some) fun English breakfast was great, cereals if you want & the usual drinks for breakfast, the staff were friendly the pub itself is great with a descent ambience & very comfy chairs, the room we stayed in was very quiet & not a peep was heard from the pub below.

Only thing for me was the bed was to close to the wall in the room we stayed in & it was a struggle to get out of the bed to the side.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful upon arrival, even taking our bags up to our room as we were a couple of hours early for check-in. The room was fine, not too small, not too big, & it was clean & tidy. Definite positives were the room temperature, which was just warm enough, and not overbearingly hot, as a lot of places tend to become like blast furnaces as soon as you mention 'Winter', and the bed, which was genuinely comfy. It's unusual to get hotel beds that don't give me back pain, but this one was spot on! The breakfast was decent, just about the right portions to start you off for the day. It's close enough to the city centre that it's only a short walk, but just far enough outside the old city walls to be quiet at night, despite being situated on one of the main roads.

To be fair, we didn't any real issues with any part of our stay!

Room was comfortable and suited my needs. A good filling breakfast. Located conveniently close to the city centre.

There was a fault with the Wifi and TV reception in my room for 2 of the 3 nights, I stayed. This was compounded by the poor mobile signal which meant I could not use internet or watch TV. All was fine on the 3rd night once the problem was fixed. Breakfast a 9am is a little too late for me. However, I asked for and was provided breakfast at 8:45 on the last morning to help me to catch my train home. I would like breakfast around 8am usually but appreciate it is difficult to get staff in early.

The location was great, we were greeted by a smile from all staff we came across, and felt welcome. The room was fabulous, very clean, looked great, comfy bed and had everything you need for a nights stay including tea/coffee making facilities + water a biccys :-) Separate access for guests that need entry after the tavern closes. Very tasty breakfast, we would expect to pay a lot more normally for that alone, but the service was great too. Right down to leaving the staff made sure we were happy and catered for. We would definitely rebook here when we visit York again :-)

Great location, super helpful staff . Any issues were dealt with quickly, staff couldn’t have been more helpful. A lovely pub and comfy room.

Would have been helpful if we could have stored cases there for a short time after checkout. Would have liked a warning about the live music being on as was underneath one of our rooms.

- Perfect location - Truly lovely staff and kind pub regulars who are so welcoming and warm - We we’re only there for one night, and while it was perfect for that, I wish we could have stayed longer - has a separate entrance for late night/early morning entry/exit or if you’re not in the mood to walk through a pub - pub is dog friendly and if you’re lucky you’ll meet cliff the frenchies who is such a snuggle bug - room was well stocked, clean, and a good temp

Our room (Duke of York) did not have a shower (just a claw foot tub) which we were aware of on booking so, just something to keep in mind if you’re hoping for an efficient wash routine.
