We have stayed at Hedley house previously and so we booked it knowing its location to York centre which is approximately five to six minutes. The property it’s self is as most in York a converted house or houses and is welcoming as is the staff. We booked a deluxe room and it was big enough and comfortable with an extra large bed which was a little lumpy but that was down to the mattress topper on it but we slept ok. The only meals we had were breakfast and they were excellent and set us up for the day. The property has a nice rear terrace which we used and a spa which we didn’t. It also had a small bar again which we used but the range of drinks was limited, but I like Guinness and they had that. The car parking is a good feature, it is not free but is cheaper than paying for off site parking. The property is sited next to the railway line but that wasn’t a problem as the trains didn’t run at night.

The only gripe if I have one is the lumpy mattress but again it was down to the topper that was fitted.

The room was spacious and included a small kitchenette with a sink, an oven and a microwave. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the bathroom was clean and functional, although the shower-hose was a little on the short side. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night. Both the home-made lasagne and the sea bass were delicious, as was the eton mess for dessert, but the price at £26 per person for two courses was perhaps £5 per head more than it should have been - and the drinks were very expensive, too. There was a nice seating area outside, where we could relax and read in peace and quiet.

I thought that the room was a fair price, but the food and drinks were expensive. It was a shame that no-one else ate in the restaurant on the same evening as us.

We we staying for one night to go to the Open Day for you University. Took an Uber from the hotel to the Uni, worked a treat. We’re able to leave the car for the full day, for an extra £6. Nice hotel, very clean. We did not use the hot tub or the outdoor garden, but it looked really nice and modern. We stayed in room 27, top floor, which had a double and one single bed. Beds very comfy. It was an extremely hot day/night when we stayed, found a fan in the cupboard, which was a nice touch. The breakfast was freshly cooked to your order and was very nice. Staff were lovely too. This hotel was very popular on the night we stayed, which is a great sign. Would certainly recommend. We arrived at 8pm, so needed dinner. Over the road is a place called ‘Churchill’s’, we sat outside under the trees with fairy lights everywhere, nice food.

Loved everything about this hotel. Hidden gem. Staff amazing and very attentive. Great breakfast options from fresh fruit and yoghurt to full English breakfast. Unfortunately we did not get opportunity to use jacuzzi due to other plans but it was great size with complimentary towels. Fantastic covered outside seating area. We had superior double which was extremely comfortable and clean. Short 10/15 minute walk to town. Will definitely go back

The only small negative would be getting to upper levels can only be accessed by stairs

Everything was perfect. I liked the big room cozy and huge, well equipped ( a Nespresso coffee machine, good coffee and even excellent cookies were ready for us). It was very clean! The staff is super, breakfast and dinner were delicious. The right atmosphere to relax and live a few days as a queen

Located in a quiet part of the City, the Hotel is very conveniently placed to walk into the City centre. The Hotel was well appointed and the rooms & communal areas were well-maintained and clean. The Hotel and gardens had been sympathetically converted and updated in keeping with the surroundings. Car park was secure. Staff were always available and very pleasant.

Only niggle was the WiFi was somewhat flaky but as we were out most of the time this wasn't exactly an inconvenience.

Beautiful hotel. We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate a special birthday. The room was ready on arrival. They have parking at the rear of the hotel (charges apply), which was brilliant as hotel parking is a luxury in York. The room was very clean & spacious. Little kitchen area with tea & coffee etc. Staff were super friendly. We didn't use the facilities in the hotel but breakfast & evening meals were available. Beautiful garden with hot tub. Less than a 10 min walk into the centre through the beautiful York Museum gardens

It was a lovely place, with a great location. The room I stayed in was gorgeous with bay windows and a large TV. a beautiful place to stay, and the staff were very friendly.

My only two complaints are that breakfast was £16 per person, when information online seemed to suggest it was around £9. It was a good breakfast as they allowed us to eat even after breakfast had ended (we weren't aware that breakfast ended earlier on weekdays) but the price was definitely a shock. I told them I would have a guest staying when asked and they said it was no problem, but I was charged an extra person fee at checkout which I didn't expect. I would have absolutely no issue paying this fee, if they had informed me about it before, or perhaps made other arrangements for my guest. It was just a shame that I wasn't given that option beforehand to make that decision with full knowledge of the cost.

The customer service was excellent. On arrival we had booked a car park space and the space left was quite small for our car although manageable however they asked a member of their team if they would mind swapping as their car was smaller. We were given a map of the city for our location and then an upgrade on the room. The room itself was a lovely size with everything that could be needed for the stay and it was very clean. The location is just a few minutes walk before reaching the centre so absolutely perfect. I would recommend and would return again.

Mattress and Pillows needed to be replaced. They are worn out. Bathroom very cold - radiator did not seem able to warm it up. Made the option of a long soak in the bath impossible. Attention to detail needed with cleaning regime. Confetti in ceiling light fitting Cobwebs above cooking ventalator Light fitting on stairs (metal hanging globes) dusty The ceiling light was very bright, but the side table lamps were quite inadequate for reading. Maybe needs another lamp which is between the overly bright and dim?
