Great location and lovely building,we have stayed here on and off for over 25 years. Always comfortable, clean with friendly staff. The breakfast is also excellent. Booked a small double this time as it was a good price, however it really was small. The bedroom was reasonable for what we needed, clean comfortable bed. The bathroom however was tiny and would not be suitable for everyone. Another downside was the noise from the water in the pipes everytime anybody in the hotel turned on a tap or flushed the loo, not to mention the guests above walking about rattled the lampshade in our room. Probably won't be back again due to this.

Again loved our stay here , not to far away from the start of the main town of York Easy to find and parking for one car per room ( £10 charge per night ) This is a well established place from the main building to the out buildings We stayed in the main building on request and enjoyed a comfortable and more than adequate sized room for our stay The loverly stairway leads up from the lobby reception to corridors for individual rooms ( we had a bonus the first room before this and previously more attic type room ) the staff member Joseph welcomed us on arrival and also was point of email contact, went through check in etc and anything there after always offering any further assistance. We quickly got settled in and chilled with a purchased drink at the bar very reasonably priced!! Getting in on the happy hour well 2 actually but also was give a first purchase ticket of 10% off drinks ( not combined discounts ) Breakfast is always a plus here very nice and always plenty to have plus tea coffee juices

Can’t fault it (has a few minor points if you want be fussy like a tile cracked in the bathroom or a bit of mastic missing )

The welcome was very pleasant and all information given was helpful - thank you Joseph! The room was a nice size and the facilities good. Breakfast was cooked to order, unusual these days, and was very nice. The walk into the city was not too long and everything was to hand. To round off the day, the bar was of similar pricing to the local pub with a reasonable selection of drinks. On the whole, highly recommended.

Two things were a shade annoying; firstly, no soft-closing doors in the corridors (all close with a bang) and secondly, the door catch on my room could be more secure.

A superb range of breakfast food well-cooked and with good service from staff. A lovely bright room and great for us as our dog was allowed in with us. Our room was in a separate cottage with its own front door - very accessible and on one level. Very dog-friendly. Staff were professional, very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help us. We had a problem getting a taxi to take us to a restaurant for our wedding anniversary meal and the Reception member of staff (Andrew) contacted several companies to try and and help us get one that would allow.our dog in the car. It was to no avail.but not his fault at all and we appreciated his help.

We would have.liked more information available in the hotel about bus routes, timetables and taxis that would take dogs bearing.in mind it is a very dog-friendly hotel. We do not drive and my husband has mobility issues and we found it difficult to work.out the buses.

We chose this property because we have stayed there some years ago and found the location ideal for what we do. There is parking available at a cost. The cost per day has increased since our booking and fortunately, they honoured the previous price. The double room is comfortable with the usual facilities. The bed is comfortable as are the pillows. Wifi is good too. Breakfast offers a selection of juices and cereals. There is a coffee machine which is easy to use. Tea is brought to you. The menu for cooked breakfast offers a good selection. Toasts are available too. What I would have liked is to have some fresh fruits instead of juice.

We stayed in room 9 which is upstairs, above the entrance. Outside the room is a door that leads to other rooms. This can be noisy when the door is opened or closed. It is frustrating to find a toilet roll holder that slopes and inevitably the roll falls off! Their website informed us that free toiletries will not be included in the room and to ask at the reception when checking in. The space between the end of the bed and the door to the toilet/shower is limited. There has been a couple of times when my leg bumped into the sharp corner of the bed.

Good and quiet location. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Plenty choice of cooked breakfast. Breakfast room staff are most friendly and warm. However it has a major drawback - the bathroom. Whist we can put up with it's tiny size and no plug for shaver the shower itself is unbearablly weak almost like dripping. We had two rooms one on the 1st floor and another on ground floor. Both have very weak water flow. The owner really needs to install a house pump to increase water pressure to provide decent showers.

We were able to leave our luggage and go for a roam while our room was getting ready, breakfast was lovely. Omelette 1st morning, full Yorkshire 2nd morning. Staff were pleasant

Not b&b total fault but too hot and only small fan which just blew the heat around room, we were in room 16 (attic/eves) so we felt heat raising every floor we climbed to get to room. It was too hot to sleep, sweating out our eyelids. Also shower drainage poor and had to manually push water with foot nearer drain to make it go and not flood floor for before opening doors. Everything else was good, great having a hairdryer in room and coffee/tea. Comfy clean bed.

There is ample car parking behind the hotel, and there is a restroom on the ground floor right off the car park, which is a bonus after a long drive and prior to checking-in. Joseph, the manager, is a very personable young man who was quite helpful and informative. He even offered to carry our lugguage up 3 flights of stairs which was very kind. It is an old property that is well cared for and even though there is no lift and no A/C, it was not a problem. We have traveled in Europe numerous times and learned long ago to not expect the same amenities we are used to in America, especially at a very old hotel. But the experiences are the reason we travel as opposed to staying at home. The room was comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was great and was cooked to order. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful.

It was an unusually hot period while we were in York, so we missed the A/C, but they provided a fan for us and it was not a problem. Hotels do not control the weather.

Very clean and comfortable hotel. Our ground floor room was a good size even though it was classed as "small." The ensuite was very clean, it had a big shower cubicle with plenty of hot water, and large bath towels were available. The extractor fan went on whenever the bathroom was entered and kept it clear. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. There is plenty of storage space and plug sockets. Breakfast had a good choice of quality food. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Check-in was between 3pm and 9pm, but we arrived earlier and parked in the car park, which we paid £15 for 24 hours. It was a 25-minute walk into York (less if you're a quick walker). There's also buses nearby.
