The location for the hotel is perfect. A quick walk from the railway station, and you're there! A very friendly welcome is met by reception who will help you with any enquiries. The room I had(5) was lovely and spacious..and warm too, as the radiator was on. Teamaking facilities with a good choice, plus 4 biscuits(benefits of travelling solo, I ate them all🐷) I stayed here due to attending an event at The Barbican. As I know York very well, this was again only a 15 minute walk way. The bed was super comfy, and the bathroom was a very good size. Faultless!
Nothing to dislike. Ideal location for the city attractions. Yorkshire Museum gardens entrance is literally around the corner

Location is wonderful... Five minute walk to the Minster and the city centre. Staff were helpful and friendly, has the feel of an independent hotel rather than a chain which is a nice change. Hard to put into words, but maybe more "old school hotel hospitality with modern approach to customer service etc..."
Not a "didn't like" per se... but if you have limited mobility it is worth checking which room you are in when you book as the main part of the hotel is an old multi storey house so if you're on one of the upper floors you will have a lot of steps to get up ( I was in room 11 which is on the top floor so four flights of stairs to climb ). Lots of rooms which don't have such an issue, so check when you book if this is a concern.

One of the best hotels we have booked in the Yorkshire area over the years. Elegant but cosy. The staff at this Georgian style hotel were just fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. You won't find a better hotel just outside of the wall in York. The location just minutes from York Minster made for a perfect stay. The car park was a bonus at a reasonable price. The bed was comfortable and luxurious and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The best part of our stay at this family run hotel were the attentive staff who made our stay a truly wonderful experience. Thankyou. We will be back for sure when we come to York again.
Nothing. Everything was perfect🙂

The location was brilliant here. We walked with our suitcases from the train station and it took us all of 10 minutes. It takes you around town rather than through it so it was quick. Walking into town was so close, 5 minutes tops to the town walls. Probably less. The price paid for the location was excellent. The breakfast was ok. You get a choice of cooked food which was quite yummy and then a continental buffet. The buffet part was average. I've had better but I've also had worse. The room was spacious and bathroom large. It is basically what you would expect from a 3 star hotel.
The room was ok but a bit dated for my liking, We were hoping for one of the renovated rooms we seen online but it wasn't. However I feel like maybe the bathroom was updated. The staff were all so lovely except one man who was on reception early in the morning one morning. I wanted to sit in the lounge area at 6am to do some work as I didn't want to wake anyone in my room, and the man on reception made me feel like it was such an imposition for him to allow me to do it. I didn't need anything from him or anyone at all, I just needed to sit and work quietly. He huffed and puffed and sighed and I didn't think he was going to let me but then he did.

Lovely spacious room with period features in the front part of the hotel. Our room was facing the back and car park and was very quiet. Nice modern bathroom and plenty of storage in the room. Great breakfast and no waiting for a table even at peak times. Car park was a bit tight but very convenient - £10 per night unless you book direct with the hotel. Excellent location, an easy walk to attractions, the Minster and lots of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. About 15 mins walk to the station. Very friendly and helpful staff on reception and in the breakfast room.
The room is not serviced unless you request it, but toilet roll and coffee/tea/biscuits are left in a bag outside the room each day. Towels will also be changed if left outside the room. Our bathroom had 3 steps up just inside the bathroom door, may not be suitable for less mobile people.

The location is superb -within walking distance to many attractions. Staff extremely friendly and attentive . Breakfast was great -plenty to choose from and all fresh . Room was clean and functional-more traditional than modern and only issue was the heat -but we were there on a heatwave and room was at top of hotel but would not put me off staying again , this was our second visit and we are already planning another as we have family in York.
Just the fact room had no air conditioning -even with window open it was really warm but as I've said above we did stay when there was a heatwave .

I had a top floor room - no lifts so maybe a problem for some. But the room was excellent - spacious and a good ensuite. I had also included breakfast which was very hearty indeed. Made a mistake the first day of getting a couple of bits from the continental buffet table. Totally not needed. What is truly exceptional are the staff - very friendly and accommodating. Finally parking was great. I have stayed in several hotels in York - Churchill, Hilton and Radisson to name a few. The parking here was the most easy. I was lucky as many other guests had taken the train so there was plenty of space for me. Sadly you can not reserve a space.
Very little. I was in the new building. So everything was pretty good. The top floor room was a bit warm but i know i could have asked for a fan.

I LIKE TO SUPPORT “FAMILY RUN BUSINESS ”, WHERE POSSIBLE. I WASN’T AWARE THIS WAS. COMFORT AND CLEANLINESS IS A MUST FOR ME, AS IS VALUE. THIS HOTEL HAD IT ALL. LOCATION WAS CONVENIENT FOR CITY CENTRE, BREAKFAST HAD A SENSIBLE SELECTION, CONTINENTAL AS WELL AS COOKED, INGREDIENTS WERE OF A GOOD QUALITY. BEDS WERE SUPER COMFORTABLE WITH FRESH CRISP LINEN, AS WERE THE TOWELS. CLEAN BRIGHT WELL EQUIPPED ROOM. STAFF WERE JUST THE ICING ON A WELL BAKED CAKE. HONEST GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY. LOVE YORK BEEN 5 TIMES, I WILL COME AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. MY GO TO ACCOMMODATION WILL BE THE MINSTER HOTEL.
THERE WAS NOTHING TO DISLIKE. THE STAFF IN THIS SMALL FAMILY RUN HOTEL MADE YOU FEEL WELCOME AND LOOKED AFTER. WHAT’S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THAT?

Great location Onsite parking Breakfast Onsite was easy to access with enough choices for anyone. Staff were friendly welcoming Previous stays were better in the rooms to the rear of the building and were quiet at night. Previous room was spotless, clean bathroom and in better cosmetically..
Extra charge for parking... Thick dust on the 4 poster canopy. Long black hairs around the silicone line of bath. Shower was not powerful enough to project the water and inadequate with broken control bar. Flush control on the toilet was faulty and water was running 24/7 Previous leaks from the room above caused massive yellow stains on the ceiling and coving. No air conditioning, so windows needed to be left open. We struggled to sleep due to the loud traffic and passers-by talking, shouting, swearing, and arguing from late evening until early hours of the morning.

From check-in to leaving, every member of staff I interacted with was pleasant, helpful and efficient. Our room was spotlessly clean, and the beds were comfortable. I was particularly pleased with the heated towel rail in the bathroom. Breakfast was exceptionally good, with a wide range of food, and several members of staff on duty. The location of the hotel was great, only a few minutes walk into the centre of York.
Not a dislike as such, but a hint that if you have any kind of mobility problem, let the hotel know when booking, as there is a short walk on cobbles to some of the rooms, and stairs to some of them too.
