The hostel was easy to find, parking included and a short walk to the centre of York. The lounge area was bright and airy with plenty of seating. The cafe/ bar offered a good range of food & drinks. Our room was clean, warm and the beds were comfortable. Staff were absolutely fantastic, recommended a place to eat and very welcoming and responsive.

Our room was quite small and not much storage for 5 people. Our coats got in the way of the door & there was nowhere to hang up damp towels other than piled on top of the radiator. A few more hooks would have been appreciated and reading lights for all the beds too. Luckily my partner had brought a small camping lamp so we could read whilst the youngest slept.

The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was great, and the room was clean and comfortable. The walk to town along the river is absolutely gorgeous and feels very safe. Altogether a great experience.

The shared shower smelled a bit mildewy but I have a very sensitive nose and my daughter disagreed with me about the smell. Also, we couldn't access the WiFi in our room, but the staff said this is a known issue and they're working with the internet provider to resolve it. WiFi in common areas was fine.

I've stayed at a few YHAs and you always know what to expect - a clean, practical, comfy, and friendly place to stay. York is no exception! Good beds, good WiFi, good cafe, good security, plentiful showers and bathrooms - all good! The staff here are particularly welcoming and helpful!

I have two minor complaints: - From my bed, I could quite loudly hear the sounds of the plumbing when the bathroom taps were used - The showers don't have any shelves or hooks so I found it tough to take a shower without getting my things wet Keep in mind that this hostel is outside of the city centre!

I stayed here with my children, confident that I would be happy with the place after reading great reviews and it did not disappoint. The room was clean, comfortable, plenty of space and loads of plug sockets! Staff were brilliant, decent menu, free parking. No complaints at all and would certainly recommend

Nothing. Paid to hire a towel but that's more than fair for a hostel. All items for rent were reasonably priced. 1 thing, a kids pesto pasta bowl was almost £7, same as all the other kids meals which had a lot more to them. I'd have liked chicken in the pasta for £7 🙂

Staff are great, friendly and helpful. I like the layout out/decor of the building. The Christmas trees added a nice warm touch. It's a short distance in a taxi approximately 15 minutes £9.80 from the center,it's clean, spacious, and does what it needs to do. It has a relaxing lounge area, pool table and dining room, with shower rooms and bedrooms upstairs. I shared a female dorm, with considerate guests. We were awoken by the fire alarm going off at 6am which wasn't nice but couldn't be helped I suppose, i couldnt get back to sleep. i do believe it was a false alarm. The full Breakfast was filling n tasty, staff serve the hot items and you self serve your toast pastries tea coffee and juices etc. From checking in to checking out, I had a real nice experience and i felt totally safe as a solo traveller staying at YHA hostel. I'd defo recommend here.

There was nothing I did not like. I'm totally happy with my stay.

To sum it up simply, this was the first YHA we'd ever stayed at, arriving halfway through our month-long trip - and we enjoyed it so much and were so impressed by the facilities that we booked several other YHA locations off the back of it. YHA York was clean, had extremely useful facilities (kitchen that was sizable and well stocked with cookware, laundry room including dryer and clothes rack) and we really liked our room. Very easy walk into the center of York. All the staff that we interacted with were friendly and helpful. All in all, would definitely come back, and we recommend!

There were no downsides.

great location a 20 minute stroll along the river to York centre. the cafe was great a selection of hot/cold drinks, snacks and food, at affordable prices. The staff were very helpful and attentive. we played a couple of board games and pool, which is available to all. only thing we miss out on was breakfast as they stop serving at 9am i thought it was 10!

the shower was a bit hairy, but i think that was the person who used it before me, I ended up using another shower. the hand drier in the toilet only blowed for a second and then went off. not an issue though.

Really clean. Friendly staff. Great location (green around, space to enjoy). Easy to find. Quiet overnight. Great to have access to a kitchen. Beautiful walk into York along the river (about 20 minutes). Good facilities. Good for families.

Our bed area was really hot. Our bed was in a mezanine area, so up high, and we stayed during a heatwave. You couldn't open windows very far due to safety. I still thought our room was great. We won't get many heatwaves like that I imagine!!

We loved the overall feel of the YHA. Very relaxed and homely . We went with children and they loved it also . A great price and what we got was great value for money . A short walk along the river into the city was perfect for location. Definitely would stay again. Great showers , bar , pool table .

Only issue we had was woken up at 8 am by banging , we payed for late checkout so was hoping to sleep in a little . I used it to our advantage though and got out early so maybe it was a good wake up call. Personally being used to a big bed , I found the bunk bed a little uncomfy maybe next time I'll take my own pillow. Not a negative though for the price in reality .

I loved the things available for kids such as the pool room, board games, books, cards etc. Also great idea for the water station to fill water bottles up as it was a 20-25 min walk into town centre so water on a hot day was appreciated. Fantastic buffet breakfast definitely worth the money as was £10 for me then £1 for my daughter. There was so many breakfast options and basically have as much as you like for 2 hours. Fantastic staff, very friendly and welcoming. Thanks guys you all work so hard as a team to create an amazing experience for customers. 🙂

Only thing I would of liked in the room was a kettle, other than that facilities were fantastic.
