Beautiful to look at and set in nice maintained gardens. Just lovely. Easy to find way around, check in and it met all my needs. Spotlessly clean and immaculate. Tastefully decorated. I loved the bathrobe and slippers provided, which were soft and comfy. Details of how you could buy one if you wanted. The staff were always very friendly and helpful.

As a single, I had a ‘snug’ room, double bed , tv and hanging space. The ironing board, hairdryer in a bag and iron, were hanging or amongst the hangars , I could see why literally no room for much else . The en-suite was very compact too, a large person would struggle I feel to sit on loo properly, as it was so close to hand basin. I thought that breakfasts were a little overpriced, you could have silver service in dining room or delivered to your room. It was more ‘fancy’ than honest, which I would have preferred. My air conditioning also wasn’t working properly on the first night, it was freezing in my room and warmer outside in the corridor. I had to ring reception and a lady came and fiddled with it and eventually got it working.

Great location in the centre of York with easy parking. Very interesting collection of buildings, lots of character and beautifully maintained grounds. Comfortable, well equipped room with large bathroom. Tranquil - we slept very well. Great bar for late-night drinks (esp the York Gin!). Lots of tempting seating areas dotted around the main building. Very nice breakfast, although the layout of the room is a bit awkward with noisy movement of staff in and out of the kitchen. Good quality food, though.

Noise at breakfast - should feel more luxurious for the style of hotel.

The location, rooms and staff were all great.

A very minor issue was having to book for breakfast. Having said that after we left Middletons we stayed at a 5* hotel in Oxford. That hotel had a pretty awfully help yourself buffet this really made me miss the quality breakfast at Middletons.So please don't alter your breakfast booking system. Also the lady in charge of the restaurant was brilliant. OK I remember on bad thing, you had lots of games in the bar area for rainy days Please get some more pieces for your backgammon set it's missing a lot . As I said at the beginning, if that's the worst thing I can think of, you are doing a great job.

It was just a short walk from the centre of York, but in a v quiet location. Easy to get to after a long trip. I loved the decor of both the rooms and the communal areas, the beds were comfy and the shower was fab.

We didn’t have breakfast here as it was an additional £16, which seemed expensive, especially after we upgraded our room to a slightly larger one, plus having to pay for parking.

Super charming architecture and decor, delicious breakfast and lots of dishes to choose from, Afternoon Tea experience was delightful, enjoyed tapas dinner in a window-lined dining room, the room was spacious, staff assisted with laundry service that was delivered back to our room within 24 hours for a reasonable price, the grounds are kept pristine, the neighborhood felt safe and was quiet for the most part

A/C unit in the room was very loud and disrupted our sleep both nights, the shower/tub design is awful- the tub is deep and there is no handlebar to safely step out and the swinging glass shower door only covers half of the area which led to a very wet bathroom floor, the bed was big, but left us with back aches. The lighting is the room could be improved as the bulbs used in the bedside lamps became warm with use. We would have appreciated hair conditioner with the toiletries. The location is across the river from the historic neighborhoods of York and about a 15 - to 20-minute walk to get to the touristy areas.

Middletons is a very well appointed hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Its location makes it easy to walk into York for restaurants and tourist attractions.

Although our room was well appointed (fridge, aircon, etc) it was very small. Had we a cat with us we wouldn't have had room to swing it. Similarly, the bathroom was "compact" to say the least. For instance, the shower: I have been in smaller spaces but they were always painted red and had a telephone on one wall. A toilet brush in the bathroom would be a nice addition (if sufficient space can be found).

Location was great shirt walk to city centre. Great choice of breakfast and prompt service. Room spacious with good facilities. Lovely toiletries.

Lighting on path poor especially for someone with a disability and poor sight. Make sure car park barrier is working. Had to ring to get it released! Was disappointed with selection of evening menu.

We've stayed at this hotel a few times now and we've always enjoyed our stay. Staff are very helpful and professional, location is perfect for us. Rooms are clean and spacious and comfortable. We love the old quirky feel of the place and I love all the little history details in the hotel. And the gardens are beautiful. We ate breakfast for the first time at the hotel this time and loved the variety of continental breakfast and the cooked breakfast was tasty , staff were pleasant and attentive. Will definitely return as it's a special place to us.

This time tho we were a little disappointed as our room wasn't cleaned or restocked whilst we were out during the day. We needed a change of towels and restock on the tea tray station I had to go down to reception and request these. Which was sorted quickly, But there was a huge party that came into the hotel so we thought the staff was extremely busy dealing with them so we took an understanding approach on this small detail.

Really good location close to centre with car parking. Reception and bar looked nice and welcoming Staff friendly and room very good size, clean and plenty tea, biscuits and toiletries.

The light fitting was slightly damaged and one of the 3 bulbs was out. There was a card left on the bed stating more pillows in wardrobe but there weren’t any and there wasn’t enough coat hangers. And you couldn’t close the bathroom door fully because of the threshold Our room was also opposite the main building and it was like going into a council flat or offices building. Thought was a bit much having to pay £12.50 a day for parking on hotel grounds.

It was a central location near the Castle Museum . We were able to leave our luggage because we were going to a wedding. Staff were helpful and polite. A reasonable charge for parking. The room was fine . The bathroom is a good-sized, clean, and good shower. The bed was comfortable.Enjoyed breakfast with good service. Gardens nice with places to sit outside.

The fact that the hotel had sent a message that it had noted I wanted a downstairs room because I'd had a knee replacement. However, I got a first-floor room and struggled with the stairs because there is no lift.
