We had the most wonderful stay this past weekend in the Willow Cottage at Upper House. Stacey went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable from the moment we arrived. The cottage was spotless, beautifully kept, and perfectly located. It was just a short walk or drive to town in a very safe area. We loved the cozy touches like the heated blankets, heaters, and the wood burning fireplace, which made our stay extra special in the chilly June weather. The staff were also exceptional, so friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Breakfast was absolutely outstanding. It was fresh, delicious, and a real highlight of our mornings. We truly enjoyed every moment and could not recommend Upper House enough. Thank you for such a lovely experience.

The room was incredibly spacious and everything was very well thought out. Stacy provided sherry for the cold and there was a fireplace aswell. The room was cleaned exceptionally for us and the amenities were replenished daily. Every detail is catered to at Upper house and a lot of thought has been put into guest comfort. Our breakfasts were top notch with fresh hot food served daily. We were also given a bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary! Upper House guesthouse is an incredible guesthouse and a must visit for anyone passing through Clarens. I couldn’t recommend them enough!

Stacey warmly welcomed me to Upper House. I booked months in advance in anticipation of the Clarens Arts Festival. It was a fantastic location and beautifully decorated room. The breakfast was scrumptious and changed daily. Plenty of hot water for showering. The TV had all of the DSTV channels. Mini-fridge available in the room as well. There was a space heater and electric blankets to keep warm with at night. Stacey and the staff were so helpful in directing me to Clarens from my start location and helped transport me to the correct location on the road for taxis on my way out of town heading towards Lesotho. She went out of her way to make me feel welcomed and ensured I enjoyed my stay. Would absolutely stay again, Clarens is worth revisiting!

This is a personal preference, but I was sad that breakfast is brought to each room. I love meeting other guests for breakfast and I didn’t realize that there was no proper dining room for all of the guests to eat together. I was never able to interact with any of the other guests. Also, only part of the property is gated. The location of my room did not come with gated parking, but it wasn’t a big concern for me as I did not transport myself in my own vehicle.

What a great place, I was super impressed! I travel globally All the time and have stayed in countless places, and this one is a Gem. All in all this is a really nice spot, great location, loved the balcony because I'm a smoker. The breakfast served on my balcony was very tasteful and a proper treat, and perfectly on time as pre arranged. The property manageress was so helpful, great suggestions of local restaurants and sites. I will most certainly always stay there if I pass through Clarens, won't think twice about it!!!

The room and facilities were great and the breakfast was excellent.

When we received our breakfast on Saturday morning the lady who served us was so moody/angry 😅 whatever she was going through she took it out on us and we felt so uncomfortable. She legit had such angry energy around her. We're all going through stuff but it's how we manage it that makes a difference. Disclaimer: We don't expect a parade of smiles and chats but at least greet/keep your moods to yourself. Again the place is still wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone!

Room was ready as requested at 14:00. We were hartly welcomed by our host, Stacey. The bedroom and bathroom were comfortable and very well furnished with everything you need. We were informed of the activities in town because of the yearly Arts Festival and Stacey went out of her way to informed us as best as possible. Stacey really ensured we had a warm comfortable stay. Bedding was cozy. The electric blanket and heater helped for the chilly nights. We even had complimentary sherry in the room. Breakfast was amazing and varied every day. Stacey went as far as updating me on activities in Clarens, recommended dinner spots as well. Thank you ever so much Stacey, our first trip to Clarens was a memorable one thanks to you.

The host was super friendly and welcomed me personally with her husband and showed me around and explained everything in detail. The room was spacious and well furnished and had all I needed for my 2 night stay. Comfy bed, tea, coffee, rusks, bottled water and milk in the fridge, toiletries and a robe in the bathroom… Natalie really goes all out. The best part for me was the location, Upper House is located in a serene, tranquil part of the town with amazing mountain views and lush greenery all around.. and yet it is within walking distance to the town centre and all the shops. The room had a lovely balcony with incredible views of the garden and the mountain. I would definitely recommend a stay at Upper House and would stay again on my next visit to Clarens.

The lovely ladies serving breakfast in the room would just chat away amongst themselves and continue their own conversation while setting up.

Stacey was amazing. She communicated very well and gave us information with regards to things to do in Clarens on a daily basis. She also went the extra mile to help me with a surprise for my husband for the celebration of our wedding anniversary. The location was amazing and walking distance to the square. The inroom facilities and amenities were also great. Breakfast was served in our room and was delicious and the daily menu was well thought out. Upper House will be our choice of accommodation when visiting Clarens again.

We were very impressed with the new owner, Stacey Reid, who had just taken over the property on 1 Dec 2023. Unfortunately for us, my husband and I arrived violently ill in SA. Stacey, who had just moved there from Joburg, knew about everything and all services, from food delivery and laundry services to doctor and pharmacy as if she'd lived in Clarens all her life. She went to get us a thermometer and some meds from the pharmacy and provided us with the best holiday sick room in SA. Thank you, Stacey, you were the best. May your guest house move the mountains of my Golden Gate ;)
