When we are looking for a place in Johannesburg, safety was one of the primary concerns. We were picked up from the airport, dropped off at the hotel, and delivered back to the airport. Safety was never an issue. We were served a delicious dinner, slept in comfortable bed in a clean room and dealt with nice people the whole time. We awoke the next morning, had a very nice breakfast of omelettes, coffee, toast, homemade banana muffins and juice. The omelettes were freshly made by a chef at an omelette station. We were there just one night, but can say that it was well worth the price.

We had a lovely experience staying at Sunrock Guest House. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with warm hospitality and helpful service. Highlights: The airport pick-up and drop-off were smooth and punctual—super convenient, especially after a long flight. The guest house has a relaxed, homey atmosphere with cozy rooms and a beautiful garden area. The meals were yummy—especially the homemade buffet dinners and generous breakfasts. We appreciated the veggie options too. The staff were kind and attentive, checking in to see if we needed anything. Great location for a stopover or short stay—secure and easy access to the airport. We stayed at two different point in our trip. Neighborhood is bit sketch so best for short stopovers. Bonus: there’s a pool (though we didn’t use it), which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Overall, Sunrock Guest House offers a peaceful and welcoming environment that’s perfect for travelers looking for comfort, care, and convenience near the airport. Would definitely stay again!

Things to Keep in Mind: It's not located in the city center, so it's best suited for restful layovers rather than exploring Johannesburg. No air conditioning, but fans are provided and worked well for us.

Everything from pick-up to drop-off at the airport was amazing!! Warm welcome on arrival and there was such a warm, relaxed, comfortable and homely feel - it was as if they'd taken the best aspects from hotels, BnB, , Backpackers, Guesthouses and combined them. The ambience was amazing with gentle music in the background, the decor was phenomenal, the Spa that was open till 9pm, dinner was great, guests mingling but also 'nooks' to sit alone or with your friends, a lending/swop library, pool table, bar, a huge warm pool with loungers, stunning gardens, good service and even a gym! I was given a HUGE bedroom with a HUGE bathroom too. I wish I had come up a few days earlier to spend some extra time there but at least I know for next time and I WILL BE BACK!

Although there was nothing I didn't like, I found that the USB wall ports in Room 16 were not working (mentioned it to Abbey) and it would be amazing to have a small bar fridge in the rooms that are further away from the common areas :-).

We used the hotel's "free" shuttle service for a pickup from the airport, which was about 10 minutes away. Of course, we gave a good tip. Our room and bath were huge with tub and shower. Both were very modern and clean. This is an older property that has been completely modernized. Plus, the garden pocket areas were artworks in themselves and loaded with succulents, blooms and hardscaping. A beautiful blue aqua pool is nestled among hanging baskets of flowers. There were sweetpeas growing against a brick wall and there were bouquets of them throughout the property, whose scent I inhaled at every chance. We ate both dinner and breakfast. This was food done right. A bit gourmet, a bit of regular done to perfection and attractively arranged. What a special place this is. It is uber secure with walls around the property. If you have a car, there is good, secure parking. The dining area was a large, modern, light-filled building with a small gym, pool table, and cottage-vibe table and chair sets. There is a taxidermied collection of animals, including a giraffe - tastefully arranged. The bar, a step down from the dining area has a Harley Davidson theme. The place was booked up when we were there with a large group of Americans going on a private tour of Africa. Aside from all of the planting and gardens eye candy, our bed was incredibly comfy. I couldn't resist taking a bath in the beautiful tube, but the shower was equally modern and spacious. Excellent communications and pictures were provided for the airport pickup.

The room lighting could be made much better by a standing lamp in addition to the two, inexpensive gooseneck desk-style lamps.

The room was comfortable, especially the large bed, which is important to me. The staff are great, so friendly and helpful. We asked to extend our check out times (costs extra) and they were great at accommodating us. I had a massage there, and the therapist was lovely. It was very good value for money in Johannesburg. We were easily able to order an Uber Eats to eat in the complex. Physically, the grounds of the hotel are beautiful and very relaxing. The pool is genuinely heated and deep enough for a swim. The bar is a find! But then I love rock themed bars.

The dinner was average, it's all buffet, so for example, although they asked how I wanted my steak, in the end you just took it from a lot of steaks in a pot. My partner prefers to eat late so it's probably our fault most of the dinner felt a bit overcooked. It was welcome enough as it's easy. The panel heater in the room was not really enough and the room was slightly cold, but it hardly matters if you're just sleeping there. There's a little bit of a design flaw where in order to put on the bathroom light at night, the only switch is by the main entry door of the bedroom, so if your partner is sleeping it might disturb them.

The communication with the staff even before we left on our trip was exceptional. Loved that they were able to set up tours for us and we did the tour of SOWETO, which was wonderful. Tumi our guide was excellent and really took care of us.

There was a little situation at when we checked out where I had already repaid for our dinner and tour, but it got straitened out. A tip for other travelers: Don't prepay for your dinner or tours. They allow you to pay at the property and if I had just done that, it would have been a lot easier, as at first they didn't have my prepayment, and calls had to be made, etc., but finally, they found it.

Great location near the airport and beautiful facilities. Breakfast was delicious and staff was beyond friendly. Our first day we slept in because of jet lag. Staff came to our room and woke us up offering breakfast before we missed it. Pool is warm.

Not necessarily a bad because I prefer it chilly when I sleep, but the rooms have no heat. Not something you would be worried about visiting South Africa, but we came in the end of May which is there winter I believe and it gets a tad bit chilly at night. So pick something on the warmer side if you need. The blankets were plenty enough for us. Definitely coming back here for our next trip

Clean lovely environment, great decor throughout the property, comfy beds with heaters in rooms- essential during winter. Toiletries and enough towels provided. Amazing food for dinner and breakfast presented beautifully. Friendly, professional staff. Free Shuttle from/to the airport is so handy and Tony the driver is a gem. There was a mix up with the rooms when I first arrived, but it was quickly sorted.

I have stayed here at least 15 times over the past 10 years and love it. Unfortunately, the last 2 times there seems to be more groups of young people staying eg a Contiki group which led to noise and music during the night. Not great after a long travel time and needing a good night's sleep. Also not much hot water the night I arrived and next morning, none either.

I stayed already a few times in Sunrock guesthouse and it is a nice I like the staff members, the pick-up system with the airport is very efficient I like the property, the room, the very efficient wifi the food is good too In winter, 2 fire places are lit in the main area I also booked one massage at the spa and this was a nice way to get rid of all muscle tensions I will definitely come back there when I next land in Johannesburg

I ordered one guided Soweto tour which was interesting, the guide unfortunately can’t join you in the apartheid museum and you are discovering it on your own (museum policy)

It’s about 10 minutes’ drive from the airport. The free shuttle to and from the airport saves me a lot of trouble. Another reason that keeps me coming back is their dinner buffet. It’s tasty and i can tell they put a lot of heart into it. If you go to the bar before dinner time, you can even see them grilling the steak. The buffet is something that you cannot miss. The rooms are situated in a beautiful garden. I enjoy myself very much just sitting by the pool. In the whole property, the wifi works well and the staff are friendly. I had a super early flight the first time i was in the guesthouse. The staff were so friendly that they packed the breakfast for me.
