Great location, lovely staff, comfy bed, kettle and teas. Church bells only start at 8am, which was very considerate (though some locals start a bit earlier and keep going throughout the day and evening, but not in an unpleasant way ;)). Close to the main bus stop, as well as convenient for lots more city buses, and within walking distance from the beach and old town with its amazing pintxos and fantastic Basque cheesecake. So, all in all, clean and friendly, with added outside life and charm. :)

The room would benefit from a bit of updating, but it was just fine for us on this occasion.

This was our third stay at this incredible hostel in San Sebastián, and we're already planning our fourth! The location is absolutely unbeatable — right next to the stunning cathedral, steps away from amazing cafés perfect for a slow, delicious breakfast, and close to shopping so it's easy to pop back and drop your bags. What really sets this place apart, though, is the staff. Every time we return, it’s like meeting up with old friends. They’re genuinely warm, super helpful, and make you feel at home from the moment you walk in. The wonderful Javier makes sure to keep in touch regarding arrival times so he is there to greet us and kindly accommodates leaving our bags in reception on the day that we leave, so we can enjoy our last few hours in San Sebastián in comfort. He also has the best suggestions for places to eat! A special mention has to go to Mari Carmen too, who keeps the entire place spotlessly clean. You can tell she takes real pride in her work — everything always feels fresh, tidy, and welcoming thanks to her care and attention to detail. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming — whether you're travelling solo or with friends, it’s easy to connect with others or just enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. We can’t imagine staying anywhere else in San Sebastián. Highly recommend to anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and true hospitality!

Couldn't fault San Ignacio for its amazing location, spacious, spotless and comfortable room and welcoming, friendly and helpful host. It is great value for money in the centre of San Sebastián.

Good price overall for a hotel room in a great location in San Sebastian. Staff/owner was kind and friendly. The room had a direct view over a plaza and the cathedral. The check-in time is earlier than most other places in Spain. They allowed me to keep my luggage on site after check-out until I had to go to the airport. Room was clean overall. I did not meet any other guests while there.

The place feels a little like a mix of a hotel and airbnb, which means there isn't someone at the front desk 24/7 (though they do provide you with daytime and nightime contact numbers for emergencies). It doesn't have the cohabitation and space sharing vibe of a hostel either. The same key opened both the main door and my room door. The starewell up to the hostel was very dark at night with a sensor light that didn't work very well; this made it hard to unlock the door and made me a little uncomfortable as a solo female traveller. The website had mentioned luggage storage, which they did do for me upon request, but my luggage was basically just placed in the main lobby where anyone could have grabbed and left with it. USB and more electrical sockets near the bed would have been useful.

The location is great along the side of a beautiful church, five minutes walk from the train station, and with tons of bars, restaurants, and shops nearby. The room was very clean with basic ammenities like a kettle, fridge, hair dryer, and TV. We just needed a simple place to stay before starting the Camino del Norte and this place was perfect. But, like others have said, the best was interacting with the owner. He was so funny and direct with all of the information that we needed. He made our day!

Location was great, near the bus/train station, plenty of bars and cafes nearby. Very friendly and helpful welcome. The room was clean and well equipped, there was a good shower and a small fridge and kettle. Bed (mattress) was comfortable.

We had a room facing the main street which was quite noisy. Although there was double glazing, even with the window closed the room was quite noisy from early morning. Pay extra for a cathedral view room if you want quiet. Pillows were not very comfortable.

Having visited in October, we couldn't wait to get back to Pensión San Ignacio and another great stay in San Sebastián. It is in an excellent location by the Cathedral and in walking distance of La Concha, great shops and the old town. We were greeted like old friends once again by the wonderful Javier! We returned to many of the great eateries he had recommended to us in October. Our room was spotless, spacious and had a beautiful view of the cathedral. We are already planning our next visit and will stay in San Ignacio again for sure.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities basic but clean, comfortable and very functional. Excellent location at the heart of San Sebastian.Price was reasonable and fair for the level and standard of accommodation. I would definitely look to rebook this facility if returning.

There was nothing not to like unless you were looking for luxury accommodation.... in which case I assume you would understand the pricing doesn't shout "luxury".

Location; bed was fine, a fan was provided. Love the elevator and ensuite shower/toilet. Kettle and hair dryer was provided, this is NOT always available in other places. The floor to ceiling balcony with view of cathedral.

Nothing, room was as shown, small (but this is common) for hostal. It is not a hotel after all. So met our requirements

Location was perfect- close to shops, La Concha beach and fabulous bars and restaurants in the old town just a walk away. Javier was the perfect host! We arrived later than expected due to problems with the bus from Biarritz, but were given a warm welcome from Javier who very kindly upgraded us to a lovely room looking out over the Cathedral. He gave us great recommendations on where to eat in the local area. Our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and nice and quiet in the evening. Guests of the Pensión can have breakfast at a good price in the bar below on the corner- fabulous coffee and fresh pastries.
