Lovely hotel - v characterful, friendly and helpful staff, clean and very well managed. Good size bedroom with comfortable beds. Good area at rear for ‘afternoon tea’ and a few seats at the front for an evening glass of wine and some nibbles. Car park quite close by but not for any feint hearted drivers of large SUVs. Quite difficult to locate by car - but head for Plaza Mayor (it’s there).

Worth the trouble locating it and negotiating the car park. Just don’t arrive too exhausted.

Breakfast offered a good variety and we enjoyed it. Dinner was also v good. Great location with parking available

When we came to check out I was asked to pay the room costs again. I was pretty sure I had paid in advance but couldn't find my receipt at the time. We then went on to the Parador at Cangas de Onis. I unpacked and found my receipt for Parador Gil Blas. The receptionist at Cangas de Onis was very helpful and phoned back to Parador Gil Blas for me. The person at Gil Blas stated that I could have a refund as I had shown all the relevant paperwork to the receptionist at Cangas De Onis. I hope the refund will be processed very soon ?

Central location on one of the main squares (in Santillana almost everything is central because the place is tiny). Historic building with old-fashioned interior decor, squeaky wooden floors and a good breakfast buffet. Helpful, English-speaking front-desk staff and a spacious parking lot just across the street. Bathroom surprisingly modern for a very old-style room.

No kettle or coffee maker in the room. Electric outlets needed for charging electronic devices inconveniently located on the wall opposite the beds. Room cozy but admittedly rather small and dark.

The property is beautiful and in the best location. Lovely patio with nice garden. Rooms are a bit small but this is due to the building stile.

The one thing I would like to suggest is improving your breakfast service. Compared to other paradores, this one was clearly inferior in quality and options. There was only one server for a room with 20+ tables. The fruit and coffee were not good and not enough by the time we came in (10AM). Service is until 11AM.

Staying in such a historical building was wonderful. The town square is right next door and it is a stunning place. The hotel is full of old panels and paintings, but there are also cosy and more modern looking public rooms to watch TV and just loll. The breakfast was good but lacking in fruit. Breakfast in this part of Spain involves a lot of stodge so if you're a coeliac, beware! Oh and if you think you can see the caves of Altamira, think again. Only 250 people are allowed in a year and you have to join a waiting list. We wanted to go to the Altamira museum but that was also booked up in advance. But santillana is a lovely place to mooch around.

The staff in the hotel were a bit stressed and abrupt. Not all of them, mainly the waiting staff in the restaurant. It was also impossible to get a drink from the bar as I think they were short staffed. It's not a very welcoming hotel. Perhaps because it's too big and used to being full, so they don't need to try.

Good range of food available

Parking very bad. Ok if you have a small car but narrowness of streets meant our car, a large estate, forced us to use a public car park 5/10 minutes away that did not offer any security for the vehicle.

Beautiful historic house in a beautiful historic village. Room very characterful with balcony overlooking the courtyard. Super comfortable beds and luxurious bathroom. Easy parking in centre of village.

Restaurant staff not very attentive, often failing to understand the needs of the client. Bar staff unfamiliar with beverage service, untrained in serving the different drinks in stock.

We had a smallish room (105), but extremely comfy, and with a balcony overlooking the main square, which was beautiful. We didn't have the breakfast (although it was highly recommended!) - we just had coffee and toast in the friendly cafe just opposite. Dinner at the Parador was delicious and good value.

Our room had no seating area (just one chair & desk)

Love this hotel in the centre of Santillana. We stopped off before catching the ferry the next day, so handy for Santander. It is a smaller Parador which I prefer. Very friendly service throughout. Lovely old building and fabulous landing where the bedrooms on first floor leed off. All stylised in keeping with this lovely old building. Food I felt was better than some of the other Paradores we stayed at on our trip. Whilst it doesn't advertise car charging, we were able to charge our electric car in the garage there.

Tea/coffee making facilities are never offered in Paradores (or in those I have stayed) which is a let done. Yes they have mini bars, but it lacks this sevice, which is a great shame for me and does influence my future bookings of Paradors

Really lovely hotel situated in the centre of the town and on the Camino. Great room and lovely bathroom.

The staff were unfriendly, were not interested in people walking the Camino, no information given on arrival e.g. where to eat, was breakfast available and not even asked if we enjoyed our stay, we won't be back.
