It's the most interesting hotel I've ever been to. The idea to convert a prison into a hotel without loosing the original a bit creepy atmosphere was like hit the jackpot. The building is in a very calm quiet area (no traffic noise) but not far away from the city centre. The walls must be really thick, I didn't hear any sounds from other rooms or from the hall. That makes the hotel a perfect place for light sleepers. Although the room is very small, there is everything you need. The bathroom is comfortable as well. Absolutely clean and trim, everything and everywhere. There is a large fully equipped kitchen for guests and a nice sitting-area if you want to drink a coffee or eat your meal. (you have to bring your own coffee but the coffee-machines and filters are provided). Very good breakfast in a cosy coffee house connected with the hotel building. !!! A big praise for waste sorting !!!!!! It isn't common in hotels. Nowadays there are so many places with no-openable windows, what I really dislike. In Långholmen Hotell you can open the window and enjoy breathing with the wonderful fresh air.

Now it's time for some little complaints of a very demanding guest:) : For some of you the room can be too small (I mean the single room) but don't forget it's a cell. :-) There was a very annoying bird outside that chirruped so loud at night (I'm serious), so I had to use ear-plugs. Of course it's kind of luxury problem and it's better to hear birds than trams, cars and people. :) The walk distance from the nearest bus-stop (around 10 minutes) can be uncool if you have heavy luggage. I want to point that's only small things that didn't make the stay less comfortable. I hope my short review will help some travellers to choose this nice hotel!

Pleasant stay at Långholmen, the old prison is beautifully changed into a Hotel with a eye to the past with respect. Friendly staff, easy to access en just a few minutes away from te metro to Stockholm center. Good and well arranged breakfast in the morning. Two points to have attention for when you book. Some 2p rooms have a smaller bed and the (old prison) doors are not perfectly isolating the noice from outside. So when other people are walking on the hallway you hear that clearly. But the ambiance of the hotel makes everything good, we will go back in the future.

Nothing.

The location and history of the prison make the stay truly memorable, after dinner we took a run around the island and then a nightly swim at the beach just across: priceless! the staff were very friendly and professional, great to have a full kitchen for storing food (the rooms are minimal!) and many cosy corners to read or hang out in. Breakfast was good, lunch at the terrace was also nice, but relatively simple (few dishes).

difficult to keep the window open in a good position during night, the room is small and gets stuffy when the window is closed. Minor detail: there was actually a (dead) spider between the bed sheets.

Great location and staff, very nice breakfast, nice bar/restaurant on site. Being a former prison, the atmosphere is very cool, but obviously most rooms are not big. Ours was small but functional and with a decent bathroom. Roughly ten minutes walking to nearest T-bana. Swimming beach right in front of the hotel, very popular with locals on summer days. Bike rental with helmets at the hotel!

Some of the old school prison doors in the hallways make a bit too much sound when closing, which is a little annoying at night if you want to get an early sleep without earplugs.

We very much liked the historical significance of the hotel once being a prison, but converted into a charming, clean, and comfortable hotel. The included daily breakfast was outstanding! Also, the location of the hotel was very lovely and peaceful. The island it is on is dominated by wooded park space with walking trails with views of the surrounding lake. The hotel has it's own beach on the lake. It was an easy 10 minute walk to Hornstull metro station or to other public transportation. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel's museum was very informative and interesting about it's former use as a prison. Recommend Piccolo Angelo restaurant at Verkstadsgatan 14, 117 36 Stockholm, Sweden (about an 8-min walk from the hotel).

The rooms are small (they are converted prison cells afterall), but are cozy, comfortable, and make efficient use of the space. I truly did not feel anything negative about the hotel. It was a wonderful experience and I'm glad we stayed here.

This is a charming hotel with a lot of character. The attention to detail put into repurposing the old prison makes it very authentic, and at the same time a super cosy place to stay. The cells aren't tiny at all and they have everything you need! The staff is friendly and helpful, and the surroundings are beautiful. The islet is full of greenery and great for walks and moments of calm. There's a little beach where you can swim (we didn't do it as it was rather cold during our getaway). It's also well situated and connected by public transport which makes it a great starting point to discover the city. The breakfast served at the hotel includes very diverse and delicious options too.

If you are a tall person, beware that beds in some rooms are 190cm long. :)

Always a lovely stay! Clean quiet and great breakfast. This time a staycation in the city with friends and family. Been here for conferences and weddings as well and always great! Clean rooms/cells and bathrooms and absolutely lovely surroundings with a swim or walk right around the corner but also city a short walk away. The museum is great and rises a lot of questions and good conversations with the kids about history, privilege then and now and right and wrong.

The steak we had in the restaurant at night did not really meet our expectations but the kids meal, surroundings, great staff and good wine made up for it.

Very atmospheric "prison" building and room's design, small but comfort room, very clean. Room looked like just after repairing. The hotel itself is located on the island, no any noise from the street. 15 mins walking time to closest subway station, taking a way from the island in silent atmosphere with fresh air. Excellent restaurant and "Sweden-table" breakfast. Pleasant staff. Good Wi-Fi quality, the rooms has space to work with laptop. Also, there are several common rest areas inside the hotel building where you can read a book or work with laptop. Moreover, there is a fully-equipped common kitchen with fridge, kettles and microwave. Little museum just inside the hotel, included into the price.

The short-time occasional unexpected "construction" noises happened several times on the hotel area at morning and during a day. Also, at winter time big area of the island in front of the hotel was loaded by tens of conserved boats - together with short day time and mostly rainy weather this made the window view a bit less positive. BUT excluding this, generally it was very quite and comfort place to stay during a week.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Långholmen! We were a bit hesitant to book at first because the location looked remote on the map, but it didn't feel that way in reality. The nearest subway station is only 15 minutes' walk away, and it's not a long ride to the central parts of the city. There are also buses running frequently from the other side of the bridge, and when we had to get to an event close to Globen/Avicii Arena, there was a convenient tram line one subway stop or a reasonable walk away. As to the amenities, breakfast was very tasty with a good range of options and the room was comfortable and clean. We really liked the old prison complex and the surroundings - the island must be very pretty in the summer! The small prison museum that was free for hotel guests was interesting as well. The staff were helpful and friendly: we were able to check in early when we came to bring our luggage, and when my husband got a migraine on our day of departure, the breakfast staff encouraged me to take food up to him and the front desk extended our stay so he could rest a little longer. We were very happy overall and will very likely be back!

There wasn't much extra floor space in the room and the noise isolation wasn't great, as we could hear birds singing and the gravel path crunching at all hours. But that isn't really the hotel's fault as it's an old (and I imagine protected) prison building; the cells are the size they are, and the windows are thin. We didn't mind, but if you are a super light sleeper, it might be a good idea to bring ear plugs. Cleanliness and tidiness were good overall, but the common rubbish bin next to the lifts and stairs could perhaps be a bit bigger or emptied more frequently. At one point, the bin was so full from late evening to midday that takeout containers and miscellaneous rubbish started to accumulate around it.

Extremely clean and well furnished throughout the property. As expected, the rooms are small but there is a large guest kitchen, and plenty of sitting areas (both private or not) around the hotel. And being the holidays, the decorations around the hotel were really cute and cozy! The restaurant food was delicious and the ambiance was lovely with a wood burning stove and comfy places to sit. I highly recommend this hotel, especially for the price, it was an absolute deal.

No dislikes. Do know it is about a 15 min walk to the nearest train station, but there is also a bus line that is closer as well.
