In Chiang Rai’s embrace, where shadows creep, A haven lies, where secrets softly sleep. With simple check-in, like a whispered spell, The host, a guide through realms where wonders dwell. A garden blooms, with whispers from the night, Welcoming all who seek the gentle light. In central realms, where chaos finds its pause, The heart of the city, without a cause. Close to Bus Terminal, where journeys start, And bars and restaurants, a feast for the heart. In this abode, where comfort intertwines, I found a refuge, where the dark aligns. So let the stars bear witness to my stay, In this enchanted place, I long to stray.

In shadows deep, where weary travelers tread, A room lay worn, its charm now long since fled. The walls, once vibrant, whispered tales of yore, Yet time has claimed its grace, and left it sore. The water's flow, a trickle soft and meek, In search of strength, I found the silence bleak. And through the night, the echoes of the throng, The voices of the guests, a restless song. Though comfort sought, the peace was hard to find, In this abode, where dreams were left behind. Yet still, I ponder on the tales it spun, In weary hearts, the journey's never done.

The plants, the trees, the atmosphere, the cats, the birds, the location and the hosts warmth and kindness are what really made me enjoy it here. I stayed in many locations in Chiang rai and this was the only place where I booked an extra nights stay. It is the authentic Thailand experience within a small city but I am looking for that so I may enjoy it there maybe more than other people. It is a place for well travelled people who are on a budget but looking to be in a good location and close to transport links. I could get everywhere from here, I hired a bike from round the corner, lots of good coffee and food on all parallel roads, night market is closed, bus station is close and train station is short journey also. Host is very helpful and accommodating and made me and others feel welcome. I took a fan only room at start of November and I found this to be good enough to keep me cool when sleeping. I loved the outside table and also public seating area under the trees and I would enjoy spending slower parts of the evening, planning my journey under the stars and trees and feeling almost like I was closer to the jungle than I actually was. The WiFi worked well and all my amenities worked and I had a very pleasant stay and I would stay here again.

The only thing I can think of is the walls are thin but this is not me complaining, I just happened to have a very loud neighbour who was on the phone talking loudly at all hours but this did not ruin my time there. But for anyone who is reading this and thinking of staying there, then please just be mindful of others/neighbours when talking very loudly.

I was very happy to finally find one of those old style no frills Guesthouses, where you don't have to pay for things you don't need. There's a lovely jungly garden with several sitting areas...and a few cats. The location is perfect. Very close to the bus station and right in the happening area of town, but set back from the road, so it's quiet. My room was small, but clean and had a private bathroom and a little furnished balcony. Very nice to chill out in the evenings. I was told the WiFi wouldn't work in my room, but it did work on my balcony.

The restaurant is only open for breakfast, and has very limited choices. There are no bicycles for rent anymore. The information on Booking.com needs updating. I would still book it. It's the expectations vs. reality thing. There was no light on the balcony.

The best part about staying here was the friendly, warm and helpful staff. They put us in a room with bunk beds because I requested separate beds if possible - which was nice because I didn't have to share a double bed with my friend, still got A/C, and didn't have to share a room with others! The staff also recommended things to do, including going to a Lunar New Year parade which was on at the time as well as an incredible fair that we never would have known about otherwise! The garden is lovely and serene and the cats are so gorgeous. We also had a really nice breakfast there.

The walls are quite thin and you could your neighbours especially well when both of you were using the bathroom, since they are adjacent and fly screen exposes both to the back side of the rooms. The location is quite central which may bother some at night, especially on weekends as music can be heard from bars nearby.

The gardens of the property are great and it is nice to sit around in the evening and unwind. The room is nice and pretty spacious. The location is also really good, close to the center. But I think the owner makes this place ten times better. She is such a lovely lady, always with a smile, always helpful and friendly. When we stayed there, my friend and I had a cold and were coughing. She heard us though the open window and just showed up with some hot honey orange drink to help relieve our cough. That was such a kind gesture.

We had some trouble with the water pressure for the shower which stopped the heater to turn on. But the owner showed us how to handle it to work ok in the future.

The Owner Tim is the most Beautiful soul I have met. Her 35 yrs of ownership is refected in her knowledge of the Chiang Rai area, her fluent English speaking and her natural love of people is refected into make you feel at home. Her staff are friendly and helpful. The Garden area is what makes the Guesthouse stand out. Bus station Night Market, Bike rental and most convenience stores and restaurants are within an easy walk. My Home in Chiang Mai. Value for the $

Rooms are basic but clean and everything the Traveller needs. If you are looking for la de dah resort style accomodation go elswhere and pay for it.

Baan Bua remains one of the well maintained , safe, quiet and centrally located guest houses available to those traveling on a budget. The owner hasn’t raised prices in years which repeat guests appreciate. Private rooms with en suite bathrooms. Great garden. Walking distance to or from the local bus station (Bus Stand 1 For those arriving from other cities on regular buses (not the tourist green Bus) bus leaves you off at Bus stand 2 a few km from the center of town. You can grab a tuk tuk for 80 to 100 baht or wait for the bus heading to the center of town from the airport ( 28 baht pp)

I recently stayed at Baan But Guest House in Chiang Rai, and it turned out to be a real find. The guest house is right in the city center, but surprisingly quiet, offering a peaceful retreat. Cleanliness was top-notch, and the facilities were spot on. What I loved most was the unexpected tranquility. Despite being in the heart of the city, the garden provided a serene escape where you could wake up to the sounds of birds outside your window. The bed was comfy, ensuring a good night's sleep. The garden itself was a highlight—beautiful and well-maintained. Plus, the guest house is conveniently close to the town's nicest street, lined with charming cafes, great restaurants, and places for a relaxing massage. It made exploring the local scene a breeze. If you're looking for a clean, central guest house with a peaceful garden in Chiang Rai, Baan But Guest House is a solid choice.

we only stayed in the baan bua guesthouse for two nights, because we had to leave chiang rai, but really regret not having stayed here for longer! its like an oasis, a wonderful and pretty woodhouse with a garden full of birds, flowers and some cats. the owners are very nice and its the perfect place to calm down, whilst you only have to walk around 5-10 minutes til the center of chiang rai and the night bazar. 100% recomendable!

the waterpressure in the shower is pretty low

A peaceful oasis in the heart of the city! The welcoming, homely vibe and simple yet comfortable accommodation create the perfect retreat. Shared facilities are clean and thoughtfully designed, fostering natural conversations with other guests. A truly calming and authentic experience—highly recommended for those seeking relaxation and connection.

A little bit more care over cleaning of communal facilities eg. Table cloths, would be welcome.
