Nice location, there are a few small shops near the hostel selling water and sandwiches, wraps ect. The jam and cream cheese and halwa sandwich just down the street was amazing, as were some wraps from a nice lady, and oaja from a store with bowls out front. Fun place to stay and explore the Medina. 35 minute walk down through the Medina to Bab al Bahr and down the main ave to the bus and train terminal Tunis Bahria. 1 dinar for a train of bus to Sidi Bou Saed or La Marsa. Great way to spend the day. Nice staff here and very friendly. Breakfast is very nice, as is the roof patio. Just outside the Medina there there is a bit busier street with fast food restaurants open until later. Above the medina the Qasr al Baladia is a nice place to watch the sun go down

The place is beautiful, very central in Medina but still close to a car pickup place in a bigger street. All the souks, restaurants, street food you can possibly need. The terrace is very nice, breakfast is very good and my advice is take it to the terrace and enjoy the morning sun. But the BEST were the STAFF, so nice, helpful that they make your stay go to another level. Love you guys!

Going home.

Really nice place with lovely patterned aesthetic and a friendly atmosphere. My room was simple but clean, the bed was comfortable and everything works fine, including WiFi. The communal toilets and showers are all clean and the hot water works very well (which I was surprised at). The staff are all very friendly and one of them (Youssef) speaks very good English. It's in the Medina so is well located for walking around the city centre. The main thing for me though was that they also offer an 'excursions' service where one of them will personally drive you to any of the main sites in northern Tunisia, for a very reasonable price (the best I've found for solo travellers). For Dougga, for instance, they'll drive you there for €80, compared to €170 I've been quoted by other tour companies for a solo traveller. Youssef is also very flexible and makes an effort to ensure you see everything you want to see. On the whole, would recommend.

The location in the Medina means it can be difficult to find at first, including for taxi drivers (it's best to tell them to go to the nearby Kasbah Square and then walk from there).

I loved the location, the fact that we had a private toilet and also the wonderful and helpful staff. Huge thanks to Omar, Youseff and Ridas for the amazing hospitality, kindness and everything they’ve done for us, they are ready to help with whatever you need and good recommendations as well, very professional and good communication, they definitely made the difference. The accommodation looks nice, it’s clean and charming. They offer plenty of great tours as well.

The host is very VERY polite. The building is gorgeous and breakfast was yummy. It’s very easy to reach the hotel from the Medina, just follow the big rue to get back out of the souk.

The rooms are private, but the windows do not have glass. AKA this means that when someone knocks on the door to come inside (the key does not open the front door, the host comes to greet you) you will hear everything. Not that I wasn’t able to fall asleep, but I would have brought earplugs if I knew. The shower wasn’t the worst I’ve ever seen, but, the hose holder was not working.

This place provides everything you need to feel welcome in Tunis. You can expect features typically found in a home-style boutique hotel rather than luxury hotels. It is clean, comfortable, and charming. The staff are not only warm and welcoming, but they also genuinely care about you. When I returned to the hotel late at night, they even sent someone to accompany me from the taxi to the hotel. I truly appreciated their thoughtfulness.

The only thing that might bother you is the sound echoing in the central yard. It could be staff preparing breakfast or guests chatting on their phones. I understand that echoing is characteristic of this architecture, but perhaps we could all be more considerate, especially during late nights and early mornings.

Excellent, helpful and friendly staff. Due to an early departure on my last day, breakfast was prepared a little earlier, (usually from 7:30am). Excellently located by the medina. Lots of cafes and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Air conditioned rooms (upstairs). Selection of books in the common area to read.

Shared bathroom is a small inconvenience which I knew about before booking.

Dar Ya was a very beautiful place to stay in the heart of the Medina in Tunis. The entrance is a bit hidden, but still easy to find. A quaint small yet pretty place, very clean (the sheets smelled of detergent :D), the staff were quite nice and helpful. The breakfast every morning was delicious. The bathrooms were also clean and the water very hot. The only downside was that the internet did not reach the second floor.

The hostel was very aesthetically appealing.

Sorry Dar Ya but I have to say. You need to improve your internet service. I am a very internet dependent person and the internet in my room was just almost zero. I bought my own internet sim but it was 3G in the room. I know there are still ways for them to improve this- given that their rate is Euro level.
