Everything😊, this was my first stay at this hotel with my dog. the hotel is so very relaxing, clean and exceptional in every way😊 The staff are very welcoming and friendly, they were very supportive of me being profoundly deaf😊 there is no deaf gadgetry in case of a fire, however I was extremely happy that if there was a fire at night someone would come into my room and wake me up, This is a big plus for me👌 There are Fabulous walks in the surrounding Forrest 😊 I have booked to come back for Christmas 😊 Also dog friendly, this is also a big plus for me😊 Dogs are not allowed in the dining room but are allowed everywhere else. So you can eat breakfast in the bar area with your dog...👌😁

So much to like about Cambus O'May hotel, all thanks to owners and staff and their attention to detail, really lovely, comfortable stay, with great dinner in the bar and Continental breakfast in the morning with such a stunning location and grounds. Bathroom and room we had had some much character and really well thought through. Looking forward to another stay

Room was really spacious and very well furnished. Shower excellent. Continental style breakfast was good: coffee machine / hot water for tea. Derek (Manager) and Kate (chef etc) were very friendly with lots of "local" information for walks etc. Kate cooked EXCELLENT dinners each evening - different menu each night. Portions were very generous. Ideal location for walking day-trips to Loch Muick, Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve, and Cambus o' May suspension bridge over the river Dee (walk to Ballater). Bikes are available to use (weather precluded this for us).

Renovation work going on was noisy first morning BUT workers helpfully started later for the following two days - the work to improve the hotel has to be done and "low season" is the best time. Should be finished soon.

What's not to like? The hotel is historic and quaint (they were renovating rooms when we stayed but that was no inconvenience at all), it was perfect! The staff, including the owner, were so lovely and welcoming, everything fit, the decor, the people, and the food - if you're looking for an authentic Scotland experience, I'd say this is it! The fires lit in the evening were a special treat. The rooms were too cute, and we loved them all the way! Bathrooms had all the convenience of a modern hotel and the rooms all the quirkyness of a mountain B&B. The food was also really good, we enjoyed dinner both nights very much. Lovely drinks to match and great selection of and guidance with the whiskey too.

The single rooms are small, but it was no inconvenience as we only slept there.

This was a quirky place to stay, in a good way. The building was fabulous and very inviting. There was work going on, which did not impede on my stay. It was very dog friendly with a great walk at the back of the hotel in the woods. Food was nice and breakfast was a continental which was available til 10:00. The staff and owner were very friendly and helpful. The room, whilst on the small side was clean and comfortable. It was a great base for exploring Royal Deeside I would definitely stay here again

Room was a bit small although manageable. Water pressure in the shower wasn't good. TV was only working on streaming service but the owner tried his best to get the normal TV working without success.

The location is great and the is apartment is fantastic if you have a dog as it is an enclosed garden area and there are lots of walks on the doorstep. The stove cooker was very welcoming and cosy and gave out lots of heat. And lovely big fridge . Bed was comfortable too. Very cosy and great for a couple on a short break. It was good having breakfast included in price too.

Unfortunately the kettle didn’t boil properly…ok for coffee but not tea as it didn’t reach a proper boil also If you want to cook you own food there is rather limited kitchen equipment (ie 1 pot and 1 small frying pan) and no teapot or microwave either so don’t bring any microwave meals !

Staff were friendly. Bedrooms were quiet and warm and the beds were comfortable. Evening meal in the bar was lovely, home cooked I think. So, normally this place would have got a 9 from me but I've exceptionally given it a 10. My car broke down in a remote car park with no phone signal and the RAC weren't very helpful and wanted me to wait in the cold for 4 hours. Jake, the owner of the hotel, went above and beyond for me and found somebody with a set of jump leads who ran me back to the car park and helped me get the car started (for a small fee). Big thanks to Derek who did this. I really don't know what I would have done without them.

The staff were very friendly and helpful in giving information about the local area. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The hotel grounds were excellent with plenty of walks for our dogs. The vision and the style. This hotel will only get better as the owners develop it further.

Minor things but detail is important. Phase the dining bookings to ease the workflow. Salt and pepper pots for every table and a black pepper grinder for the restaurant. Glasses in the dining room for fruit juice at breakfast. The mattress was comfortable but the bed frame was very noisy (room 14).

Lovely location, very good staff (friendly, especially the chap who managed reception, brought logs for the fire, etc.) The room was nice, if a bit small, and well equipped. The hotel has managed to tread the fine line between modernity and the Victorian building in a pleasing way. The dinner menu was very appetising and the food was of good quality and cooked well. Would stay there again!

No real lounge area, either in the room or elsewhere in the building, where you could just sit and relax. No cooked breakfast at all - only boiled eggs, e.g. not even a bacon roll. This didn't bother us at all, but putting it here for others who may be affected; there was no vegetarian option available in the evening menu.

Wonderful Victorian mansion with historical furniture and decoration. Great beds, very comfortable, fluffy high quality bedding. Quiet and peaceful. Old free standing bathtub, we loved it. Plenty of hot water. Warm and cosy in all places, open fire at the bar. Choice of well described local Whiskies. Dinner and wine menu with good choice, we liked the salmon and the steak. (Due to some issues, see below, we didn’t come back to dinner the second evening.) Nice guests, we met a former local who told us a lot about the environment and gave us a valuable recommendation where to buy local wool.

While Derek and Heather and the senior bartender were very welcoming, attentive and helpful, the junior manager did everything to repel us: Her obnoxious dog ran around and barked at us upon entering the hall or at breakfast; although all dinner guests agreed there was no need for the television, she switched it on; and after the bartender and I had had a very friendly and creative exchange on the music for the evening and how we could avoid the commercials of “Alexa“, Ms. Junior told me off. It is a pity to spoil the otherwise cosy atmosphere of such a beautiful and original place with radio broadcasts (at breakfast) and US 50s Christmas playlists interrupted by frequent commercials.
