Such a wonderful trip!! We did a mini tour of Devon and this was the prettiest Inn we stayed in, and equally important the nicest staff from check-in to breakfast to dinner staff. Very friendly and accommodating. Connor was great, A+ in customer service. The rooms thought of everything, we stayed in 28 I believe, a room above the pub, some rooms are a 1min walk from the pub and a bit quieter/bigger I think. They provided a cute newsletter to explain the property- and they called out that phone reception is bad (as it is in most pretty remote places) so gave some options. Lovely cozy pretty decorated room. Loved the spa pillow spray for the bed. The shower was hot and provided shampoo and conditioner as well. Delicious dinner and breakfast in a very atmospheric room. The Pub is a 20min walk to the seaside and seaside cliff walks. Nothing else more directly by the pub but a few houses. They provide parking which is very good. It is narrow country lanes to get there but take your time and remember you may need to squeeze! Ah and make sure you book at the Pub for lunch or dinner in advance as there is nowhere else to eat!

Like all older pubs or inns the walls aren't soundproof so you will hear people in the hallway or doors shutting but hey that's pretty unavoidable. It was a warm May day when we were there and I found the cozy room quite warm to sleep (I'm American and love my ac) but my British husband found it perfectly fine. They provided a quite fan in the room which helped.

Mistake the Masons Arms for a typical English pub (with rooms) at your peril. This characterful 14th century inn is outstanding in every department; scrumptious food, exceptionally welcoming and observant staff, lovely ambience, and so on. But what elevates the St Austell brewery owned pub above the crowd is the attention paid to the minutest of details: for example dimmers on all the light switches, a retro Roberts radio in the bedroom, and auto-lights in the wardrobe. Mobile reception in deepest Devon can be poor, so a telephone in the bedroom gives guests free UK calls. Mellow night lights in the toilets trigger automatically so you don’t wake your partner if you get up in the middle of the night. And so on. Eight miles away lies a magnificent hotel called the Pig at Combe, and although the cosy Masons Arms cannot begin to match its sizeable grandeur, the wonderful experience we had did remind us of the Pig as much as it did the typical English pubs we have stayed at.

It's not a criticism, but be aware that the last 1.6 miles to the pub is along one-car-wide lanes that will test the faint hearted driver.

Picturesque pub with rooms. 15min walk through beautiful meadows to the beach where there is an excellent cafe. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved being able to sit outside our room on sunbeds.. the weather was fabulous. Our room was well equipped and recently modernised. Very comfortable bed. When we come again we would ask for a room upstairs as we were very aware of the people in the room above us.

The noise from the staircase at the side of our room and from the room above is.

The room was spacious and beautifully decorated with Elemis products in the bathroom. Our room was on the first floor in the cottages, which would have been challenging for anyone with mobility problems as the stairs are steep, but they have plenty of ground entry rooms too. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the pub itself has a lovely atmosphere and plenty of seating for having a long, lazy pint! We ate there both nights of our stay and the food was lovely, definitely posh pub grub.....and the on tap beer was delicious.

If I was being pushed then it would be the price, its not a cheap weekend away.......but worth it!

Beautifully located close to Branscombe bay, which is a short walk away. The landscaped gardens are a credit to the gardener, who maintains them all on her own! Welcoming cottage feel to them, and I think they make the outside space really stunning. Inside the room was tastefully decorated. Little touches like pillow spray and the DAB radio were appreciated. We slept incredibly well in the soft down bedding and pillows. The soft mattress may not be to everyone’s liking, but we found it very comfortable. The mini bar was also a welcome addition. Eating at the Masons was a delight. The food is absolutely delicious. A must try are the mussels in mariniere sauce! Portion sizes are generous and the breakfast offers good selections for continental as well as cooked. Lastly, a huge thank you to the staff, who are very helpful, friendly & super efficient. I’m sure it wouldn’t all run as smoothly without their obvious hard work! Will most definitely return.

The Masons Arms was a beautiful, romantic stay, with excellent dining choices; both our evening meal and breakfast. We loved the decor of the room; stylish, lovely lighting and a cozy feel, with a very comfy bed. The staff were professional and relaxed, it felt like they really knew what they were doing, which added a good vibe to the atmosphere. We also visited the Jurrasic Sauna on the beach which comes highly recommend! All together, like stepping into a different and magical little world for a night. Thankyou!

All good.

Atmosphere and Charm: This beautiful country pub oozes period charm and character. From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The property is maintained to an excellent high standard, making us feel pleased and comfortable immediately. Rooms: The rooms were impeccable, reflecting the same high standards as the rest of the property. They were well-appointed, clean, and exuded a cozy yet elegant vibe. Dining: The food in the restaurant for evening meals was excellent. Each dish was prepared to perfection, and the menu offered a variety of delicious options. Breakfast was equally faultless, catering to all tastes with a wide range of choices that were both tasty and satisfying. Service: The staff were incredibly welcoming and engaged with us immediately, making us feel very welcome. Their professionalism and friendliness were evident throughout our stay, contributing significantly to our positive experience.

It is a minor thing but the car parking is limited

Friendly staff, nice meals (had both lunch and breakfast). Short walk to the beach. Car park was useful although did get full quickly. You would probably need to book for lunch or dinner in peak times as it did get very busy. Pub part was really busy as it was a nice day. Quirky old pub with lots of little sections and rooms. Can walk or drive to the beach from the Masons Arms. We would stay here again.

Car park was a bit chaotic but not really a lot the pub could do to change it. Was quite expensive for an overnight stay.

Room was as advertised - beautiful. Well appointed, cozy and inviting. The overall ambiance of the property is charming. The pub with the fresh flowers on each table and places set was very inviting. Everything is beautifully maintained - beautiful gardens and lovely accommodations. The terrace, with all its nooks and crannies was on the hillside and a wonderful private place to enjoy a glass of wine. We appreciated the staff showing us to our room and giving us the lay of the land. They food was excellent as was the service.

Really no complaints other than it was a warm evening. It would have been nice to have fan to cool down the room. We didn't sleep well as the room was very warm

Location was excellent, the pub was very impressive and what you hope to have in a country pub. The room was cosy and had plenty of storage. Very quiet and peaceful place to stay. Loved it

Bathroom door was a bit odd. A very heavy bi-fold, which some might struggle with. The bed was a bit too squishy for my liking. And on leaving, someone had tried to add their food and drinks bill to my room number. Just asking to see your room key would negate this, but you were just asked for a room number.
